Well I finally had some time and made one more coat for PiP. Still need the embellishments, but the bulk of the construction is done. So here are some pics. I used Reconstrucing History's #709 pattern.

I just got one of these things and WOW the thing is huge. The proportions were what I was looking for, it's just half again as massive as I expected. I think I'll end up shaving off a good deal of wood eventually to bring down the mass. ANYHOW... the trigger is terrible hard to pull. Sometimes it doesn't seem to want to pull at all (yes, I'm on the full-cock position ) When I took the lock apart to clean out all the packing grease and stone the rough surfaces, I noticed that on the tumbler, the full cock notch was angled backwards, so that pulling the trigger had to force the hammer a touch back in order to clear the notch. Hence the heavy trigger pull. SO -- what…

I made these recently for my over the top movie pirate costume. obviously when going more historically accurate they probably would not have been worn. But for the swashbuckling stage comabatant or pirate performer they can go over quite well with the crowd. The black one is held on by two straps with 3/8 inch buckles the brown one with just lacing holes. These are custom fit to the wearer's wrist. namely..mine

I am "addicted" to e-bay and search high & low for unusual things. Here is something that would make a great pirate flag. It is of appropriate size for such a venture as it is 6 feet wide and 18 feet long. Its the pennant or triangular shape. More info on pirate flags at Foxe's site http://www.bonaventure.org.uk/ed/flags.htm But here is the link to the e-bay pirate flag. http://tinyurl.com/y2ob064 I contacted the seller.... its Nylon. If it had been made of wool, I would be sniping it now. But for those of you that "it doesn't matter", its a pretty good deal. Also, you can't get 100% wool flag bunting now anyway. So if you have your own ship and need somet…

Is anyone else having problems connecting to Jas Townsend's website at the moment? I was trying to place an order this morning - UK time - and got as far as the order confirmation screen. When I hit the confirm order button my browser just spent ages waiting before getting the message that the connection had been reset. Since then I've either had the same message or that the page couldn't be loaded for all the pages on their site whenever I try to access it. Just wondered if it was me or anyone else was having problems with their website. Cheers.

A waaay while back Paisley was looking for pirate themed checks. I was hopin' to find some with pirate flag designs. Didn't turn up none. I did turn up POTC checks! The only place I found them was at Walmart.com (I really don't like Walmart) but since it's Disney, can probably find them elsewhar. I am also looking into the places that will use your own photos and if they will use public domain artwork. As far as I know none of the flags are copyrighted. Will let you know if I can get them!

Hi, all, I'm looking for a source for navigational charts/ maps of the 18th century, best faksimile or replica ones. Any idea where to find such? Mainly of the carribean or crimson coast, but also others will be welcome. Online or not, how did they look? Any answer and hint would be a great help. Thanks, Jack

I feel a little sheepish putting an ad on here, but here goes. While working as the armorer on POTC 2&3, I was asked to make 12 pirate flags to be featured in the 3rd movie. These were extemely large flags for the most part, being 25' on the fly, and of course, double sided. Since then, I've been asked to make more for the film, and I thought, now wait a minute --- even though these were a pain in the ____ for my wife and I to make (I had to come up with them during a Christmas break from Pirates), why not make them for you mates (for a price). Of course, I don't see alot of call for flags as large as the film required, although we're willing to make them, but the cos…

Well I only have 2 sets of garments left to make for our crew. I wanted to gloat a bit and post pics of them here. Any comment, remarks, and complaints welcome. Here we go. The fabric was a tan and brown (light brown) with a herringbone pattern. It was hand dyed to the greenish color you see. I did several tests in order to keep the zig zag pattern. Too long in the dye bath and you would lose the pattern and it would be solid green. Its faint but still visible. The fabric is a silk/ cotton blend. If memory serves me right, I think it was 60% silk/ 40% cotton. I lined with a 60% Linen/ 40% Cotton blend. PANT- Are a 95% wool/ 5% spandex blend. (It was on slae at Jo A…

If you have been a member of this pub for any length of time, you will know that I am a big fan of "group projects". I have Reconstructing History's 1680s Justaucorps pattern (#701) and am going to make it my "fall/winter" project. If anyone else has this pattern, and a camera and wants to "join in" we can post our individual progress, and get help right here at the forum. Anyone else game? Greg

I came across this video Nova: Lost at Sea the Search for Longitude (1998) Navigation in the 1700s was both unpredictable and deadly, until one man solved the mystery. Richard Dreyfuss narrates the riveting story of a humble, ingenious country carpenter named John Harrison who discovered that the secret to navigation lay not just in the stars, but in the mastering of time. Climb aboard an authentic tall ship and go back in time to see history, and the quest for longitude, unfold. Buy it at Amazon around $18- Red Cat

Our Wholesale orders are running out the door and I want to make up about 100 parcels of 25 copies of The Pyrates Way. What's great is that they fit in the standard $8.50 Flat Rate Priority Box! So if you want 25 copies of the magazine, we can take care of you quicker than lesser quantities. The cost is 50% of the cover (25 mags = $74.87) and we'll even eat the $8.50 shipping. . .so for less than $75 you get the magazines as quickly as the Post Office can get them to you at Priority Mail rates. I'm making this offer on several boards, so pardon if you've seen it elsewhere. Just go here to make the deal complete: http://www.pyratesway.com/whole.html You'll see the 25 …

Well after running the gambit of pistol or longarm, then musket vs. blunderbuss. 'ol Rats is placing an order for a doglock musketoon. I'm told it's about 10 inches shorter then the musket and if requested I can get the brass fittings, which is apparently quite common for nautical issue. I'm told they should have it to me before I leave for the Lockhouse, so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. I'm also told the flashhole is already drilled, which will save the hassel and $. Just thought I'd pound me chest Rats!

For those of you that are pipe smokers, and are looking for something more "period", I just got a newsletter from Track of the Wolf. They are offering 6" clay pipes for about 7 bucks each: Track of the Wolf Clay Pipes I've been looking around for a good clay pipe ever since an earlier thread came up here. They don't carry the longer versions, but these will do in a pinch. I've ordered a couple. If anyone is interested, I will report on the quality when they show up. Brad aka "Pegleg Pete"

got a bosun's whistle yesterday and am eager to learn how to blow orders on it....... anybody got one?, and can give me some pointers about hand positions, and tuning it for the right pitch? and yes, I'm aware that most of what I just posted could easily be construed as a massive double-entendre, but I assure you there's no double meaning.....
