I read an article on miceage.com about Disney planning on changing Tom Sawyer Island to a POTC theme? Anyone else hear about this?

Okay, everybody's got a favorite do-rag, bandana, etc., the one they love above all others....for some, it might be a simple piece of cloth, to keep sweat out of your eyes, while tying off a line, for others, though, it might just be something more........ mine has a story......my dad bought it......it's silk, and pretty light.....it absorbs sweat pretty well, and the print is very nice....... how I came to posess it, however, is that, I basically ruined it........ I made the mistake of washing it, and the colors weren't colorfast......and they ran.........I also have a rather large head, so I stretched it out........ but I love it anyway, and continue to wear it.....…

So, I decided to do a POTC-inspired haunt for the Jaycee's Haunted House this year. (I've been doing at least one room a year for the last 15 years.) I don't have photos of the whole room on the web yet, but the centerpiece was a prop of Jack the Monkey. The whole thing was inspired by a conversation I had with Iron Bess asking her about getting Disney to make a life-sized, undead Jack the Monkey prop. Then it occurred to me..."You know how to do this. Make your own freakin' monkey!" So I did. You can see him here.

(Idea being pirated from the Wizkids site) Would anyone be interested in putting together a fleet online? Somewhat like a professional sports draft. Test play it against others? Why would your fleet defeat others, etc, etc...This is all about building (bragging rights) the best fleet on paper but you could take the builds and set up crews in your area to play with them and then report the winner. Mostly though its about getting that ship or crew before another Pirate gets the one they were after. It's just fun and its the most fun when you grab that guy just before the next guy was planning to. Some basic guidelines: 60 points Build total 1 round per day. 1 pick …

Black Hearted Pearl posted this in the PotC2-DVD thread, but I think it's so brilliant that I had to give it its own thread! From the Disney site, here's an animated e-mail programme, which lets you create your own message with text-to-speech software: Dead Man's Mail The talking skull can be customized with your choice of hair, hats, backgrounds, etc. Actual swear words and certain anatomical terms are replaced with the word "savvy", but otherwise, you can make this talking head say all sorts of naughty things to amuse your friends. E.g. A Greeting to Jack Sparrow Cheers, Hester

I don't suppose there was ever any kind of map given for Isla de Muerta? Or even a location for shooting those scenes that I could look up on Google Earth and extrapolate from there? I'm making a mess of maps for our Pirate Day party at work next week. So far I have a "it's better than a key, it's a picture of a key rag, a rockin NeverLand (book version, mostly) laid out and doing the tea soak now, and of course Treasure Island, but I'd like a map from "Curse of the Black Pearl." Any ideas? Sugguestions? Heck, screen captures? Unlike my NeverLand map, this one will be small enough (roughly 11x17 I think) that I'll be able to scan it for them which want a copy when it's…

Ahoy! I’m working up a list of pirate trivia (skewing heavily towards pop culture) and I’m running out of ideas. I thought I’d turn to the professional pirate people to see if any of you have anything to offer me. The deal is I want to have the questions be used as entry for a raffle or some other contest in a couple of months and so I’m trying to keep them relatively easy, hence the skewing towards pop culture rather than history. Though I am very open to historical questions as long as they're not too hard core, such as “Who was the captain that defeated Blackbeard?” I thank you all in advance for any help you can offer. The following is a list of the questions I cu…

The Pirate Magazine that we all spoke of long ago is on stands now. I found my copy at Barnes and Noble under the topic of "entertainment". I looked at first under history topics where I found Fairy Magazine and Ren Magazine. Near Starlog, Entertainment, and TV Guide was where I located it. On first glance it looks pretty good. Now the big question is: will it last?

I don't know if this has been posted before, but for those in the UK with access to Cable or Satalite TV there is a new Pirate show on this Sunday night! I just saw a trailer for it and although it looks a bit cheesey it could be quite good fun! From the Sky One website

Some history reading recently led to some wandering about another possible "magical pirate setting" artifact that might come up... As mentioned here -- http://www.loc.gov/rr/rarebook/catalog/dra...rake-intro.html and here - http://whom.co.uk/squelch/discover_coast.htm The Spaniards had an almost superstitious fear of Drake because of his ability to locate their treasure ships. They called him El Draco - meaning 'The Dragon' - claiming that he had a magic mirror in his cabin to aid his navigation. Apparently he was entirely too good at finding their treasure ships and suchlike for them to think it was simply mortal skill. Now wouldn't that be a fine thing for a pirat…

Greetings Pub, The PBS Woodwright's Shop with Roy Underhill will air "How to make a Ship in a Bottle" with yours truly as the featured guest on Sat. Oct. 7th and Sun. Oct. 8th. Check local listings for times. The 1 minute promo is also neat if you can catch it. Roy did lots of "AARRR's" during the production, and BB's QAR is shown in a closeup. Best regards to all, Jim-sib Link to Woodwright's Shop: http://www.pbs.org/wws/schedule/index.html

I recently stumbled across a nautical video game on the bargain shelf at Target. It's called (as you could probably guess from the topic title) Age of Sail II: Privateer's Bounty. It is supposed to be a ship to ship combat game. And while it is set after the GAoP, it still looks petty nifty. The only problem with it is that I can't get it to work! Every time that I try to play, it goes through the whole intro, lets me pick which battle I want to play, and then lets me go through setting up the options. However, as soon as I click the button to start the battle, it switches to a screen that says "loading" and never does anything again. No matter how long I wait,…

Just a warning to everyone out there. I was looking at picking up a copy of the new "Age of Pirates" from Akella/Playlogice today, but before I did, I did some research. Apparently, Age of Pirates uses the Starforce copy protection software which has known issues causing loss of drive capabilities, hard drive crashes, blue screens and more. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME, unless you have a junk computer you don't mind screwing up for just this game. Apparently, Playlogic is also stonewalling the customer's comments on their forums about it. Eventually, there might be a Starforce-less edition (I hope) but until then, just because it's a game about pirates, you don't have to…
