Well, I sure don't remember putting a skull and crossbones on my post (s), but I will say it's amusing. Would like to see some more fun ones. RumbaRue **I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges**

Most pirate buffs are interested in the Golden Age (generally defined as 1670 to 1730, or somewhere within those dates). But what about EARLIER pyrates? Specifically, those of the 1570 - 1600 period? Anyone on the list interested in same? Capt. William

Arrgh! Is this a rough pirates drinking den ?, cos if so it certainly don't sound like one, more like a quiet genteel lounge bar in sleepytown. Oi Know's that most of ye swabs will still be in yer hammocks when Oi be on line, but three posts in the last two days!, where is everyone? So come on ye lubbers let's get some pirate banter started, trade insults, start a fight, stick a grenadoe down the landlords britches, let's put some life into this old dump!

Mine is Calico Jack Rackham's: the skull, resting on crossed cutlasses. Why? Because it's a simple variation on the basic theme. The skull and crossed bones is an ancient symbol representing death. When you substitute the crossed cutlasses for the crossed bones, it carries the same meaning, with the additional, obvious connotation that your death will come via our swords! When you start adding hearts, people standing on hands, initials, bandanas, etc., it all becomes a kind of pirate hieroglyphic; you'd be spending time thinking about the meaning of it before it occurred to you to be terrified by it! Does anyone have a favorite issue of No Quarter Given? If so, which, and why? I'm buying back issues slowly, so if folks have an overwhelming favorite, I might get that one sooner!

Are there any other pirates on this list from the New Orleans area? A local Baratarian is trying to expand his group into pirates in general, and is looking for crew members. Capt. William

How many on the list are interested in Jean Lifitte and his Baratarian brethren? They were smugglers, privateers, but were they really pirates? Capt. William

So I've started me training aboard the great lakes schooner, The Denis Sullivan. In eight short weeks I'll be fully qualified to swab decks and mend sails aboard this mighty freshwater vessel. Actually, as someone who's lived on or near the ocean for most 'is life, I've always been a little hesitant to give much respect to something so "tiny" as a lake. Gimme the salt air and giant squids. Still, some of my prejudices have been squelched - For example, I now know that if a ship sinks in the middle of Lake Michigan, it is NOT possible to simply roll up your pant legs and walk to shore 'Ere's a pic of the Sullivan:

Animated pirate shooter POLL
by Guest Angus MacVox- 0 replies

A member of this forum has emailed me saying that the little animated pirate shooters slows down their computer and wants me to make it still. I don't see how that's possible because it's so small, but every computer has its quirks. Does anyone else have this problem and do you care if it's made still?

Does anyone know where I might find examples of letters of marque? Some books I have discuss what they are and their significance for particular govt's and privateers in history, but they do not provide actual texts and so forth. I want to see examples. Thanks!

Hello there, one and all. My name is Ray, I'm 19, and am from Wales, which is a neighbouring country to England. Pleasure to meet you all. I stumbled across this site thanks to a few helpful people who suggested I come here for research into my pirate story I'm working on, which I'd like to be available for all audiences. I've recently completed a first draft on the prologue, which will probably need some grammatical checks and some word changes, maybe some additional information, depends on how the story shapes. I wondered if anyone was interested, if they would take a look for me to give me their thoughts. If you do, I can be emailed at rayfnwillmott@yahoo.co.uk or I…

Arrrgghh! and a Hearty Hello! Me crew and I were just cruising on by and stumbled onto your site. I must say it is very interesting. I and some fellow pirates are in a small group called the Brotherhood. We sail the seas nightly playing a game called AOS II and AOS II Privateer. There are other sailing factions representing countries around the world who we engage, sink and pillage nightly. I always say, If you cant do it in person why not virtually. See you around.

Ahoy all... I promise not to do this again. I am going to set Wed. evening ( 11:30pm eastern time ) as a scheduled chat night. If anyone wants to drop by and chat , that would be great. Also, if anyone wants to host a special topic, that would be cool too. I will do this every Wed. Evening as long as possible. I know that this may be late for some of you, but, for now it is at least a start. I just thought that this is a great way for us all to meet and get to know each other. And while i know that I am a late nighter, please let me know about any open chat times that any of you are going to do. If i get the chance, I would love to stop in...Take care.. I mean ... argghhh…
