Misson
Metaphorically speaking...(I found these in a newsletter I get and thought some of them were pretty funny.) He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it. He was as tall as a six-foot, three-inch tree. The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't. John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met. From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you're on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00p.m. instead of 7:30. Shots rang out, as shots are wont to do. The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for a while. He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up. Duchess
One of my favorite creative writing classes had a standing assignment. Each day you needed to turn in a list of 25 metaphores. I only wish that the professor and compiled some of the better (or is that worse?) ones. Over the course of the semester each student in the class had written over 900 of the things. Misson
Did the professor write a book? When I was magazine editor of a student engineering magazine, we worked with the Technical Writing instructor to get articles. She gave the students an assignment to write an article for a technical journal complete with two illustrations. We got to pick the best articles from two classes. That solved a huge problem for us. Cheeky Actress
My father sent me a book. It arrived today and he stated that it belonged to my Gandmother McCallum. It was a book of various poems. The book is over 90 years old and in its pages I've found the following: A four leaf clover a 5 pound note a lock of hair with a purple ribbon attached a pressed rose a newspaper clipping about a local man marrying (Coatbridge, Scotland) a picture of my great uncles "Stephen and John - twins" and lastly.... A picture (from the look of the clothing - about 1870s) of a well-dressed couple - I think they are my great grandparents. I am sure that each item found in the pages of that book held some deep and precious mean to her and what really moves me is that my Da decided to send it to me...knowing that she really meant a lot...not only to him, but to me. BriarRose Kildare
How very sweet Cheeky Actress. The book is truly a treasure trove of memories. Today would have been my parents 45th Wedding Anniversary had my mother lived. But I know that she is still around and she will be waiting for him when it is his time to go to the Beautiful Summerland. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all. The Dimension of Time is only a doorway to open. Cheeky Actress
How very sweet Cheeky Actress. The book is truly a treasure trove of memories. But I know that she is still around and she will be waiting for him when it is his time to go to the Beautiful Summerland. Thank you BriarRose. Yes, the book is worn, dog-eared, and soild in spots, but oh, it must have been my Grandmother's very best thing in the whole world. As for your mother, I am sure she is! It is never easy to deal with the separation of a loved one, but memories make them real in the here and now. Never to be forgotten. And thank you Saltypots....so true! Perkeo
“In the 1600's, a language of flowers developed in Constantinople and in the poetry of Persia. Charles II introduced the Persian poetry to Europe, and Lady Mary Wortley Montagu brought the flower language from Turkey to England in 1716. It spread to France and became a handbook of 800 floral messages known as the Book Le Language des Fleurs. Lovers exchanged messages as they gave each other selected flowers or bouquets. A full red rose meant beauty. Red and white mean unity. Crocus said 'abuse not', while a white rosebud warns that one is too young for love. Yellow roses were for jealousy, yellow iris for passion, filbert for reconciliation and ivy for marriage.” @---}---- A red rose for all the ladies here! Help Pyrate Minicity grow, click a link below! Cheeky Actress
Wow Perkeo! Interesting stuff there! I know during the Victorian era, flowers were quite the fashion in sending 'love messages' to sweethearts. One could spend a small fortune trying to say, "I love you" or "I'm sorry I looked at that other bird, and If you give me another chance, I'll make you the happiest woman in the world." See what I mean? Member of "The Forsaken"

Capt. Bo of the WTF co.
I used to hate flowers. I once killed an air fern my gramma gave me. <(Not on purpose, it just died. Probly from too much smoke! )When my Blondie wench and I got married, she told me not to ever give her cut flowers, so I gave her a potted something or other, and I'll be dogged if it ain't still alive and hanging in the window on MY side of the bedroom! We been hitched five years now, and got lots o' greenery around. Couldn't tell ya what they are, but when we have to go somewhere for a couple o days I worry about the critters as much as she does. And I Love Lilac, Irises, Black Eyed Susan's, TigerLillies, Poppies and Pansies. Pansies are for thoughts and were my Grandfather's favorite next to the Red Rose. Carnations, Silkie have a scent all their own...It is a sweet warm fragrance. Carnations were my mother's favorite flower next to the Buttercup and Sweet Pea. Cheeky Actress
Admiring a 'PERFECT' fall day. I got up late only because our group did a FANTASTIC job at a Halloween event down in IL yesterday. Why does 2:30 am roll around when you are having way too much fun?! Awoke to temps in the mid 60s, sunny and the trees are in full color. I have a huge red oak in my front yard and this year the color is amazing. This is a day just to lay back and enjoy...knowning that winter is only weeks away!
