Maeve O'Treasaigh Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 You know...speaking of Frank Lloyd Wright: He built some really cool things, but I ultimately hate what his architecture "did" for the last half of the 20th century. Maybe it's more like I hate how architects decided to interpret his "form follows function" idea, but since the 50's, some of THE UGLIEST and most BORING architecture (in general) in history has ensued and I hate it. What happened to pride and aesthetic appeal? Artistry? The ability to slap together something more lovely than a box? Sorry...that's always been a soapbox of my since interior design school.... I totally agree with you Maeve. The last half a century did nothing to put a stamp on the beauty of Architecture. I enjoy more of the Greco-Roman, Colonial or Victorian Architecture. Rogue Mermaid Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I think I've been possesed by a demon today. I'm usually pretty easy going but today I'm just in a foul mood. I'm achey and cranky and I just don't get it. Is it a full moon?
BriarRose Kildare Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Aye, Rogue Mermaid. The height of the full moon is on Sept. 26th. Patrick Hand Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 My Boss keeps forwarding this kinda thing to me.... but I thought others might like it.... A Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year-old) Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's Family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why." Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The six-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long." Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like: When loved ones come home, always run to greet them. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy. Take naps. Stretch before rising. Run, romp, and play daily. Thrive on attention and let people touch you. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do. On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree. When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you're not. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently. ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY! Take today for a good start!
Hester Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Glad your kitty came home, Patrick! Your experience reminded me of the song "Kitty" by the band Presidents of the United States of America: "Little bag of bones been out all night... meow!"
Silkie McDonough Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Thanks Patrick. I would never do anything to harm "Katie" (the dog). I simply resent that I was "blessed" with her when I did not want a dog at all. I was told by the former owner that If I did not take her she would be put down so the only choice was ...no choice. So I have had her short of two years and I still have not grown accustomed to her. She should be at a place where she can run and be the part border collie mix she is. I have a small back yard and she doesn't get to play much.
Captain Jim Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 That's good, Patirck. May we all grow into the people that our dogs think we are. My occupational hazard bein' my occupation's just not around...
Red Cat Jenny Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Hmm..I think dog's don't talk cause they know better Cat's too.. So Patrick..I hear he came a swaggerin home with lipstick on his collar LOL!!! Cats..... Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.... Her reputation was her livelihood. I'm a pirate, love. By nature and by choice! My inner voice sometimes has an accent! My wont? A delicious rip in time...
Patrick Hand Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 May we all grow into the people that our dogs think we are. I've always loved that line....... Awh.... the cat came with the last house I was renting..... I tried to convince Nacho to take him when Nacho moved into the house..... but he dosen't like cats...... (now he has one and a dog.... hey... go figure..... AAAAnd outta fairness..... Nacho isn't bad or nothing......) Anyway.... As I was watering this morning.... the cat shows up meouing really loudly..... I can't figure out how or why I got such a vocal cat.......... Of course I was glad to see him again..... but I think he's really pushing the welcome home for the max amount of scratchies he can get.........
Red Cat Jenny Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 But Pat.... Unlike Dogs.. Scratchies are unlimited fer Cats...Ye jest gotta read the manual Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.... Her reputation was her livelihood. I'm a pirate, love. By nature and by choice! My inner voice sometimes has an accent! My wont? A delicious rip in time...
Patrick Hand Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 I tried to explaine to the cat that PETA says that keeping animals is slavery, and that he'd have to go out and get a job (Hey... I emancipated him, just like PETA says we should.).......Now he want's me to write a nasty letter to PETA........ Scratchies are unlimited fer Cats...Ye jest gotta read the manual Yah... but I was kinda confused about that part...... feed the kitty... then give them 5 minutes of scratchies every 5 minutes........ I'm kinda hoping that was only a typo.........
Dorian Lasseter Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Sorry Lad... it ain't a typo.... You on'y got th' one... try it wi' six someday....
