Blackbead
Mates, I can't wait to put some faces with the names; those gentlefolk of fortune in the Fort Worth/Dallas area that can't make the voyage are green with envy and wanting lots and lots of pictures. I'm still getting in wares and will be bringing some of the most beautiful and unusual pieces of jewelry that I've ever made, treasure chests both large and small, enough replica flintlocks to arm a full pirate crew, hat pins both with and without feathers, pirate toys for kids of all ages and at least one unusual treasure from the land of the Hindi - an authentic phurba. It's all coming together nicely and Captain Jasper and I look forward to a long weekend of piratical fun! We're bringing lots of beads to throw at the parade, too . . . hope to see some mermaids along the way!! Till we meet in the Big Easy - a fair wind and a slow galleon to all me pirate friends! Blackbead
The Phurba (Tib., pronunciation between 'pur-ba' & 'fur-pu', alt. transliterations: phurpa, phurbu or phurpu) is a three-sided dagger, peg, stake or nail like ritual implement traditionally associated with Tibetan Buddhism or Bön. The phurba is used as a ritual implement to signify stability on a prayer grounds during ceremonies. The phurba as peg or nail unites all that is disparate or disassociated. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phurba for more information. It's not exactly a pirate implement but a piece of "Treasure From Around the World" which someone looted from a treasure galleon from the land of the Khans. Come to me booth to see the one I have. Blackbead
Up on the poop deck, a stout figure stood, with his hands clasped behind his back, looking out to sea as the sun slowly settled toward the horizon. Whatever his thoughts were they were interrupted by the approach of the bo'sun, a rugged looking sailor with a scared face and a steady gait. "You can stop your frettin', Blackbead, the final cargo is coming aboard and will be stored in time for the dog watches so the crew can dine well and get plenty of rest before the sun rises." Turning to the bo'sun, a big smile spreading across his face, Blackbead, the master of "The Adventure Fantasy," said, "Well, done, my friend, ye knew exactly when I had almost reached the boiling point. As usual, ye've read me like ye do the skies and I can rest easy tonight. Uh, I assume the flintlocks are aboard . . ." With a loud sigh, the bo'sun answered, "Aye, that they are." "And all of the gee-gaws and pretties that we've acquired over the last few voyages?" "Aye." "And the chests that we had ready for sale?" "Aye, Blackbead. It's all aboard and will be below decks before the next two hours are out." "Excellent! When everything is lashed down tight and we're ready to make way in the morning, have all of the crew summoned to the main deck. Captain Jasper has a surprise for them - we'll eat and drink together and then every man has leave of the ship till four bells on the morning watch. And tell the lubbers that those that don't make it back on time will be left behind. And those that get their scurvy hides back aboard and pull their weight will have the time of their lives. I expect this to be the greatest adventure of our lives . . . so far!" Blackbead whirled back to face the sea and as the bo'sun walked away he could have sworn that he heard the old sea dog buzzing with excitement. "In the end, it's not the gold that sets our sails, 'Tis freedom and the promise of a better life That raises our black flags."

Rumba Rue
I want so much to be there..... Blackbead will have some of my feather hat pins and some other things I make for sale there, so be sure and look for them! And be sure and say hi to him! I hope this con will remain where it is or at least a chance closer to the west for next year, so that I can attend. Any further east and the less likely I'll be there.... hurricane
It is indeed a grand time here. PyrateCon just started officially and it's moving right along. Lots of pirates and wenches here, great vendors and the location is fabulous. Started last night our with Tiger's Pirate Babe photo shoot, then off to rum tasting then terrific food at Yo Mamma's. Shrimp the size of a small cat there for the taking. We just finished the tryal of Anne and Mary... no camp - the straight trial -- followed by a terrific presentation by the two gals about their lives and how they got to where they were. Good times! -- Hurricane -- Hurricane ______________________________________________________________________ http://piratesofthecoast.com/images/pyracy-logo1.jpg Captain of The Pyrates of the Coast Author of "Memoirs of a Buccaneer: 30 Year Before the Mast" (Published in Fall 2011) Scurrilous Rogue Stirrer of Pots Fomenter of Mutiny Bon Vivant & Roustabout Part-time Carnival Barker Certified Ex-Wife Collector Experienced Drinking Companion "I was screwed. capnwilliam
Hurricane speaks true! The two pirate wenches testified brilliantly in their own behalf (and surprised I was to learn after the trial that they were largely ad libbing!) The prosecutor and the judge - old wine-besotted bloke that he was - did a great job also! It's been mentioned before, but tis still true: it was a lot of fun putting flesh and blood faces on the words and avatars we see on the list. Many of our mates told old Capt. William they liked his ramblin' about naval gunnery: which made me old heart feel good! It's been a boatload o' fun these past two days, with vendors and lectures and demos, parties and movies: and yes, I understand that it's definite for New Orleans for 2008, as well: that it's already been booked for the Bourbon Orleans: a better establishment than the Holiday Inn, sez I: a bigger venue, and right IN (the HI's merely "near") the French Quarter! So, RumbaRue, we will hold you to your promise for next year! Capt. William "The fight's not over while there's a shot in the locker!"
capnwilliam
Well, PyrateCon 2007 falls into the annals of history, and they're already starting to plan for PyrateCon 2008. I reckon most attendees are home or on their way home. We all owe a big thanks to Admiral Rudy, Bosun Carmina, and the Sea Wolf for all their hard work! I was delighted to see that Carmina and Dave Smith were presented with awards for their herculean efforts. And delighted I was to meet the many pirates in attendance: especially Blackbead, and Piratesse: two of the nicest pirates I've ever crossed paths with! Capt. William "The fight's not over while there's a shot in the locker!"
Rumba Rue
I've been hanging on every word about the con. I WILL BE THERE NEXT YEAR! So will Boats. It's marked on future calendar and I may be bringing friends. One hell of a road trip across Calif., Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and into Louisiana. Bilgemunky
For me, PyrateCon was absolutely awsome! Got to finally meet face-to-face so many of the folks I've come to know online - Jamaica Rose, The Pirate Guys, Jeff MacKay, Quicksilver, Scarlett Harlot, Black Fox, Phleabag and Stagedive of the Jolly Garogers, Tiger Lee... the list really goes on and on. I also got to meet several listeners of my radio show, which was a fun new experience for me. The event itself was fantastic, but certainly has room for improvement. The presentation room, for example, was way too small, and a bit too close to some of the poor vendors, forcing these vendors to speak in hushed tones during the talks. There were other issues, some minor and others not as minor, but through it all this remained an incredible experience. They did a stellar job, and I can't wait to go again next year. Bilgemunky
I'm afraid I'm not much of a shutterbug - I have a few good shots of me posing with the Pirate Guys, and with some of the PotC cast. I had the distinct honor, in fact, of escorting Lauren Maher (aka Scarlett in PotC) on the half-hour walk back to the hotel after the Masquerade Ball. It's quite the thing to drunkenly swagger - arms over each other's shoulders for support - with the lady that smacked around Jack Sparrow Not many pix, but I *DO* have many recorded interview that will be broadcast on Bilgemunky Radio. Most of the folks I mentioned earlier in this thread, in fact, were kind enough to have a sit down chat, as did several others. Details will of course be forthcoming.
