The Sea is in me blood. I'm Third Generation US Navy. Grandad had two Destroyers shot out from under him in the SO Pacific during WWII so he transferred to the Sea Bees. Passed on in '65 after 20 years with the Bees. (And 50 with "the Bottle") Dad joined in '59 just in time to head to Viet Nam and Patrol the Mekong. Retired in '94 as a Comand Master Chief of a Frigate Squadron.

I was born in a Navy Hospital (Balboa in San Diego) spent most of me young life on Navy Bases (Portsmouth, Providence, Norfolk, Mayport and San Diego). Enlisted myself in '81 served through Desert Storm.

My Minor in College was History ( me major was Chemistry) with a lean toward Medieval and Rennaissance studies and Military History.

Pyracy is a result of a Book: Treasure Island. I was given a copy by me Granddad before he passed away (course I was too young to read) Finally read it in third grade and was hooked. :D

Got into it again as a teenager at the Ren Faire in Sterling Forest NY.

Now I find this loverly place and all the like minded folks.

Now who's got the Rum? B)

I know I explained this recently somewhere....oh, well. I've always been in to period-type costumes and the different time eras that went with them. The whole pirate legend was always interesting to me. I remember being interested in it way back when I was a little kid. It might have started from riding the Pirates ride at Disneyland. The whole family has garb and attends ren faires. I've been trying to get the guyfriend to attend at least one faire. He has the right look for it, tall, long hair, goatee, even has some clothes that would definitely fit the part.

I was a recent convert do to an introduction

through my wife to ren faire 3mos. ago.

I guess it's taken a life of it's own.

Mid-life crisis could well as be

a reason fer this insanity of wantin to act as

a pyrate fer a day or two outa the year and build

the cove in progress ect.

I see it as more of a hobbie than an interest because now

I want to learn navigation techniques. Iv'e been bit an bit hard.

So much so I machined this today.... One is the computer graphic using surfcam and the other is the real deal

Now the Year is 2012 and looking back eye can say that what got me here was shear rebellion..However what has kept me? The excitement of the life and adventure of it all...Eye have met so many great people to boot! Back then Eye had no idea that one day eye would end up in Pirates Magazine let alone create a full feature movie short! Now on YouTube ! http://youtu.be/xmSeX-gghpo

And now an Honory member of the Leviathan. It is funny to look back and laugh at myself with what eye would call very humble beginnings.

I have come far in the Hobby turned life style. I find a lot of joy sharing with others, how to's and the rest is future history yet to experienced.

Hangin at Execution dock awaits. May yer Life be a long and joyous adventure in gettin there!
As he was about to face the gallows there, the pirate is said to have tossed a sheaf of papers into the crowd, taunting his audience with these final words:

"My treasure to he who can understand."

Have you ever read Timeline by Michael Crichton, Christine? It contains a very interesting look at the medieval period and is as entertaining as any Crichton novel. (The movie was a pretty poor representation of the book, though.)

I got interested when I saw my first Pirates of the Caribbean Zap Action! models in the local five and dime in nineteen ought eighteen. Dead Man's Raft, yo ho!

Awesome! I had "Ghost of the Treasure Guard!"

I'm more an "accidental" pirate, really. I started attending faire with what I thought was more "free lance" type garb... but people seemed to simply assume I was a pirate, and I started hanging out with the other pirates, and then I guess I was sorta assimilated.

Resistance is futile. B)

NOAH: Wow... the whole world flooded in just less than a month, and us the only survivors! Hey... is that another... do you see another boat out there? Wait a minute... is that a... that's... are you seeing a skull and crossbones on that flag?

That is awesome, Odorless Eye! As for me, I was involved in Ren Faires and fell into the pyrate groove with me mate Diego. Truly, though, I have always loved old movies and Maureen O'Hara has practically always been my idol in Against All Flags.

It started for me last year around Halloween. I do fairly elaborate yard decorations each year, and they had gotten so scary that little kids wouldn't come up to the door for candy! So I decided last year to do a pirate theme (somewhat inspired by the POTC movie and a life-long love of the ride at Disneyland). After setting it up, my wife and I decided to put together pirate costumes to wear while handing out the candy. We had so much fun. We remembered that our neighbors were part of a pirate group that did Ren Faires, so we asked them about joining up earlier this year. We've been hooked ever since. The more we gave them away, the more we came to realize... the drink would not satisfy, food turned to ash in our mouths, and all the pleasurable company in the world could not slake our lust. We are cursed men....Compelled by greed we were, and now we are consumed by it."

I've always liked Pyrates.....

When I was a Kid, I audittioned for a part in a play of "Treasure Island" dang... didn't get the part, and I was very dissapointed.....

There was a "Summer Recreation" treasure hunt on the beach, so I got to play Pyrate then.... unfortunately, the treasure hunt was set-up for the older kids......

Watched all the Pyrate movies whenever I could.....

When I got older, I dressed as a Pyrate for a few Halloweens, and one time when we went down to Mexico, I took some garb, so we could have a Pyrate party on the beach......

Iv'e done an assortment of re-enactments... gunslinger, Civil War, S.C.A. and Klingon (OK... the last two arn't very historical......) (Oh yah... the Klingon's were a group of Pyrates tho.....)

About five years (WOW...has it been that long....) I somehow discovered "No Quarter Given". Unfortunately, looking through the ships to sign on with.... the closest ones were all outta Southern California (an 8 hour drive......) I started to put together some Pyrate garb for myself..... But about 4 years ago, I saw that there was a new group listed in NQG,..... So I contacted them, and joined "Tales of the Seven Seas....."

It is kinda fun to see the progression of my garb...... from what I started with, to what I'm wearing now........and I have two different "Personnas"... my Pyrate, and a Buccaneer. The Pyrate is semi authentic, but more for "Play" and my Buccaneer satisfys my "need" for authentisity.......

But it's all fun........... Aaaargh <_<

I had this lifetime, oh, must've been three hundreds years ago when I sailed.....

Oh, but this life, aye, had an interest in pirates as far back in childhood as I can remember. Growing up here in North Carolina, ye study about Blackbeard very early on. Combined with that, me family has owned a beach cottage, near Wilmington, since I were a wee sprog, so I've always had a very deep attachment to the ocean, the seashore, pyrates.

As a former children's librarian and as a professional storyteller since 1991, I have constantly kept me pirate side visible and nurtured.

I wonder if one of the most important steps on our journey is the one in which we throw away the map.

Nope, never read the bok, but I saw the movie. I remember it being a bit hokey. Almost always the book is better than the movie.

i dunno when i started. sometime last year, i was listening to my friends talking about this larp game. it sounded fun, and i looked it up online. the webpage explained it in more detail, and it didnt sound as interesting. too typical, all elves and stuff. then i heard my friend talking about this pirate club she was in (online) and i typed 'pirate larp' into google, and found out about renfairs. i kinda just got hooked after that. and pirates were better, because girls just get to do more stuff. all the women who dressed in mens clothes and snuck aboard, the stories and romance of pirates, and the fact that i pretty much could make a costume from the clothes i had already (i dress like a rennie every day)

Part of my family history, really. That is, if the tales hold up. Story is, part of my kin, Clan Burns (Burrnes), sought employment with a lady named Gráinne Nimhaille. And they found quite a bit of profit in the relationship.

When I was a wee lad, a favorite aunt in Florida (my dear departed Aunt Lyndal) told me the family tales, bought me treasure maps, and took me to museums that held the salvage from ancient Spanish wrecks.

Silver.

Gold.

Jewels.

I was just a kid, but I wanted it. All of it I saw, and more if it could be had. I guess I got the pyrate gene, if there is such a thing. Every time my parents took me to Walt Disney World, I'd drive them nuts wanting to ride "Pirates of the Caribbean" over and over again.

My attention drifted to other things as I got older, but things got jarred back to life, thanks to Jerry Bruckheimer and his little film, "Pirates of the Caribbean". And I have no intention of looking back.

Yo ho ho! Or does nobody actually say that?

I guess I be the lame duck in this crowd. I have never been to a Faire or worn any garb. I was born and raised in Miami.

I have dove on several uncharted wrecks and been treasure hunting since I was a kid, yes the geek on the beach with the detector. I been studing pirates since I was young and just loved the idea of jumping on a ship and heading for the horizon. I am going to try and get to the pirate festival in Key West for a day just to see how everything is and have some beer of course. I will be wearing civilian clothes until I get up the nerve to try on some garb.
