Misson
Welcome aboard, Miss Ashcombe. You have been added to the crew compliment along with Maeve, Liam and Aeva. I sense there's a theme here...except it should be "Welcome aboard, Miss Aeshcombe. You have been added to the crew compliment along with Maeve, Liaem and Aeva. hurricane
It's still early to give a firm number but we may be up to 20 this year in the Port Royal encampment, up from 11 last year. -- Hurricane -- Hurricane ______________________________________________________________________ http://piratesofthecoast.com/images/pyracy-logo1.jpg Captain of The Pyrates of the Coast Author of "Memoirs of a Buccaneer: 30 Year Before the Mast" (Published in Fall 2011) Scurrilous Rogue Stirrer of Pots Fomenter of Mutiny Bon Vivant & Roustabout Part-time Carnival Barker Certified Ex-Wife Collector Experienced Drinking Companion "I was screwed. Cap'n Kisslin'
This be the first I've heard of the PIP. With great efforts I should be attending but mostly as a spectator as I've ne'er done any reenactment work. However, I would appreciate any information on doing reenactment work! I was sailin' the high seas, 'round the Florida Keys. Trailin' that merchant ship, the one I'd catch and strip. For she had me swag, and flyin' an English flag. As noted elsewhere you can certainly freelance as a pirate. There are lots of people their that don't do period re-enactment... and the public who comes in costume certainly aren't PC (period correct). Me, I straddle the genres because I like to play as much as I like to educate the public. If I was to play a real buccaneer, I would be wearing an leather apron covered with dried blood and animal remnants - not really something the public wants to hang around. So we fudge a bit here and there in our camp... hey, it's a 1680s tavern... no shoes, no shirts - no problem. Misson
Yeah, it's kind of like there are the PC pirates in the Mercury and Archangel encampments, the nice balance between PC and non (leaning more towards PC from what I saw) Port Royal pirates in the Fort and then several other popular style pirates in the fort. Come one, come all! There are lots of photos out there if you want to see some of what I saw. The Callahan's site has a goodly selection of who and what is at PiP: http://www.callahandigitalart.com/photocart/ My own little journal of last year has a mix of styles as well: http://www.markck.com/images/Piracy/PiP_20...al_Ch_First.htm My stuff focuses on our encampment, Callahan's more inside the fort. Every group was fairly welcoming last year from my experience...come down figuring to visit in your costume and you'll likely stay and hang the whole weekend. A finer group I have not met in recent memory. hurricane
Good thoughts, Mission. I would agree. For us, we created a very good replica of a period pub of 1680 and we played period games, ate period food and educated visitors on what life was like in Port Royal at the time. This year, we'll be doing the same and adding even more education, including perspectives on politics of the time and the buccaneer/pirate trade going on in town. That said, we happen to be a crewe all year round here in Florida. We found it pretty hard for us to rein in our collective personalities that we use all year long to play by the book for the four days we're at PiP. I do Sir Henry Morgan here in FL quite regularly during the year but I can't hold that for two days, let along three. Eventually I just snap because it's not as fun for me as it is to be Hurricane. So this year, I will be the owner of the pub along with my lovely wife. We will be more ourselves, but versed in all things period for education purposes. But when we're out on the grounds visiting with fellow pirates and visitors, we'll be our old selves that we are all year long. That seems to suit us best and keeps my 20 little crewmates from strangling the captain with their period stays. If you don't have it when you arrive, you either don't need it, or we can get it for you in under thirty minutes. Arrive without stakes, we'll get you stakes. Arrive without a hat, we can probably get you a hat. I've always ended up there without something and I've done without it or some generous soul has lent, shared or given me what I needed. Crew helps crew. PIP is a very self sufficient festival.

William Brand
Just a little over seven months to go and still so much left to do. I'm having the devil of a time recruiting people from my part of the country. Landlocked. Removed entirely from the ocean. How are our recruitments coming along elsewhere? We need to start posting fliers at every little gatheirng and shindig this side of...well...anywhere.
