Oh, come now, Syren! Wench auction? As long as Sparrow keeps his grubby paws off th' girls... they fetch a good price. Especially them Persians an' th' sort. They always be needin' Harem slaves. Or someone fo' a Gentleman's Plantation.

Yes but I do not like slvers and would do my best to see it gone, can ye imagine wot those poor wee lasses must have felt?

:o

:::Raises hand::: I was one of them lasses sold t' slavery, m' dear Syren. I know how it be. Slave t' a Persian's Harem, to th' Wife an' Mum actually! Pain it was but survived it. Got lucky actually. Get in good with th' Mum, it saves ye from anything. :D

Nay, I don't intend fo' lasses and lads t' be sold in that manner to those sort o' folks. :::shakes head an' cringes::: Think of me as a mail order Bride and BrideGroom service. :D And those sold for servitude... I ensure they be given good treatment. Otherwise, I go in an' "deal" with th' Master.

Oh, come now, Sterling. They are not all THAT bad nor ugly. If worn right an' proper, then they are mighty lovely. That one at the Met is lovely. I like how that sits and displays.

Tess... blonde? I thought Tess was a fine, lovely Brunette?

Instead... this is Tess?

Ah Lady B, but I am older than ye... I remember a day when a lass's hair was done up proper without any encumbrance... mighty handsome was my Tess, with soft blond curls a ribbon or two and little else.

Don't encourage him, Lady B!

Captain...may I remind you that Tess, your saintly wife was a redhead...and had a temper to show for it too.

I was gonna say. I believe I met Tess. Did I not? I'm rather bewildered where the blonde curls came from.

Anyways... Cheeky... back to yo'r mantua... have ye images of the mantua in some light and of the back. How did ye gather it up in the back?

And you use blue velveteen? or velvet? I can't remember. :)

I'm still in awe of the mantua, m'dear. It's incredibly gorgeous! Now ye need shoes t' match it. Hehehehe...

Okay, normally I try to bite my tongue, but there has been two posts about mantuas in the last two pages of this thread... The mantua has been mentioned in maybe four posts in the last two pages.

Come on folks, the pub has several areas that are geared towards ongoing crew stories and "in persona" chatter, most threads wind up going off course and that is to be expected and fine, but I think this one has gone a bit too far. Could the moderator break off off the ongoing story of the extended Sterling family and Archangel Crew and could perhaps the participants help steer this topic back on course?

Cheers.

Attention Ladies of the Crewe of the Archangel... if you need clothing help, I advise that you pm/email me off the board. Please do so before you make ANY purchases because I hate to be the one to tell you what you learned here is often incorrect information and you need to return said items. And that includes patterns... I will give crewe members a proper pattern to work from along with coherent directions with the only cost being the cost of the pattern fabric and shipping... but this is for CREWE members ONLY.

Michael, I see your point ...my question is why not request the moderators of the forum to split the thread leaving the mantua info together and moving the Fontage information to another thread?

Sorry ...for all I know you had.

I believe my post was doing exactly that? Should I have done so in private? I am not a big fan of that as (to me) that stinks of going behind backs. I'm sorry my request to split the topic and trying to keep the thread more or less on topic has seemingly stirred up such a hornets nest.

No hornets nest unless there is one brewing behind the scene that I don't know about, which wouldn't be a first.... I am just tired of my crewe helping and then being singled out for having a good time at it as well... After all this is NOT Twill... and there is not a board I have yet to come across that does not deteriorate into fun after so many posts... including the PB forum. I do not see Lady B being singled out for her Wench auction or the wives over in Stays being singled out for pjs and tv shows... when a thread needs to continue and some one asks a question, the thread resumes track, it always has...

If you want to have a straight thread, post over in Twill... ye have my word I will stay out of it...

I dunno, dozens of helpful posts and a handful of persona posts from a single used suddenly vanish, and I should feel as if I have pissed in someone's coffee?

Sterling, I'm not trying to raise a stink here, and it matters not whether it is "Twill" or "Thieves Market", both of these forums have specific purpose, and while they do often go off topic, as they should to remain friendly, they do occasionally need to be reigned in as a counter balance to that. Two pages of story time was enough for me to ASK it to be reigned in. Inciting a sudden removal of any helpful information was not my intent.

Maybe it is not you that needs to stay out of Twill, but I that needs to stay out of Plunder, or the "The Thieves Market" as it is now.

Oh no by all means reign away... its been done in the past and I have always apologized for running off track in Twill... but not here... If I have a newbie chime in, I will do what I feel it takes to make them feel comfortable... and again... perhaps with a fever 102 I am misreading all this, perhaps I and my crew were singled out because you thought if I lead everyone back on track folks would naturally follow? hmmm don't think so... all I'm saying, IF you are going to point fingers, point at every one guilty...

If a thread going off topic is only a problem for one person, then it's not a problem.

What is a problem is someone being heavy handed with the rules and guidelines causes a bunch of really valuable Pub content and posted information to be disappeared.

Now that really sucks and that's a problem!

Stynky not to worry, nothing I post is ever of importance, so nothing important has gone missing... and if any one has ever bothered to follow any of my posts, eventually most of the info falls under the delete button any way.... too many pictures w/o ...ahem...consent shall we say... can not stay posted here for long periods of time... so folks need to see them and snag quick... before places come and start demanding we take them down any way... seen it happen on too many other boards... so in and out quickly...kind of like a pirate..

As to Mickey and I... won't be the first time we have let fly with others or ourselves... most likely won't be the last... we butt heads but we always make up.... notice I did not say kiss and make up... make note...

There is only one person here who honestly stirs up trouble and tries to keep things bad, and, amazingly they haven't chimed in to this .... yet....

As moderator, I try to let the little things work themselves out, and Respectfully Request we all respect the intent of this forum. Discussion, with Modest helping of chatter, is expected. However, if there is no direct discussion/active & pertinent input otherwise keeping the thread active, I see no reason why the thread needs guidance, as it would seem to be naturally waning.

To that end ~ yes, Silkie and Michael, I should have considered moving the fontage discussion to another thread. To be honest, it didn't occur to me, as a fontage is only worn with a mantua, and seemed a natural extension of this thread.

Captain Sterling ~ is it possible for you to re-instate your deleted posts?

First off, Sterling, I have found great value to your thread contributions. In fact, just earlier this afternoon, Mickey had posted up links to the original Chemise thread and I was really impressed with all the information you contributed there (and I hope to be able to go back and see it all still there when I attempt to make my first chemise!).

On the flip side, I also have to agree that when coming to some of these threads, sometimes I scroll past a lot of personal chatter in order to see the topic. In cases like the stays thread, there's a LOT of really good posts that are informative and great reference (Especially Lily's contributions, which I have found both fascinating and intimidating!) and by comparison the chatter there is more minimal. The Mantua thread has kind of evolved into the opposite side of the coin of the stays thread - with a handful of good reference information and a lot of chatter. In this case, I think Mickey was merely trying to keep the mantua thread more inline with the stays thread.

Unfortunately, the written word, as glorious as it can be, tends to leave out all the social cues we all rely on. The non verbal cues of body language and facial expression as well as vocal inflection, pitch, volume and rhythm all inform how we can most accurately understand an intended message. As they are missing in written communication, I think we all sometimes stumble and misread negative intent when it truly isn't there. And I think that is the case here.

Which is not to say that it was wrong to take the singling out of the Archangel crew personally - but rather pointing out that I don;t think it was done so maliciously. Sure, the road to hell is paved with the best of intentions, but in this case, I think it's likely better to realize that behind each post is a real person, with real job hassles and real fevers and real stresses and sometimes all of that factors into how we perceive and react to each other. But at the end of it all, we are all a group of people who like to dress in linen clothes, eschew zippers and velcro and like to drink LOTS of rum.

So.....how about dem mantuas?
