Capt. Sterling
And some interesting images, that have subjects that don't really seem to be wearing any type of hoop circa 1708-9 granted the last one is in the comfort of her own home circa 1693 Edited May 20, 2009 by Capt. Capt. Sterling
kind of reminds me of the Valdemar Slot Gown a bit around the front Edited May 20, 2009 by Capt. Cheeky Actress
I don't know why, but every time I look at the marketplace picture of those ladies buying those foundation garments...I always think of this... Member of "The Forsaken"
LadyBrower
Wow! Awesome pictures Captain, thank you so much! Maybe someday I will be fancy and wear my beloved hoops. =) And I LOVE the pleating on that gown. It's just amazing! Cheeky Actress
It's got to be the fabric?! I think if one keeps with the look of the green/pink fabric...everyone will be calling the wearer "Lady Davenport" Member of "The Forsaken"

LadyBarbossa
Lady Sofa Davenport of Couch Oh, God, help me... Thank ye, Sterling. Found it... plus the other mantuas that was displayed on the page. It did have one image that gave a basic idea of it's "construction"... sort of. Kinda gives you the idea. The side with that pleating... interesting. But the sleeve pleats that way baffle me the most. Is it me, or was it possible the dress was an older dress and just... refitted and taken in? ~Lady B Tempt Fate! an' toss 't all t' Hell!" Capt. Sterling
When you get a chance and a copy, take a look at Janet Arnold's Mantua pattern in the back of Patterns of Fashion... I think its vol. 1 The sleeves on her pattern are pleated in a very similar fashion... I just like the Valdemar Gown for being another example of pleats on the outside.... That's how the sleeves on my mantua are done more or less (I was going off that book for the patter, and the lovely lisa helped me make sense of it all). Will be a while. Apparently that book is... rather pricy. I got my copy off of Amazon for 25 bucks... I thought it was worth it. LadyBrower
Oh My GOSH! I am so excited!!! I just came back from a garage sale, and they were selling ROLLS of decorator fabric for 2 and 5 dollars... I picked up some brocades and a velvet and I don't even know how many yards.... TONS! I found one that is really cool that I might try to replicate that slot gown out of. Granted, everything is cotton and blends, but it has the LOOK and for 15 bucks for a ton of fabric... it's enough to have some fun with. Before my dress though, hubby is getting a coat and waistcoat. LadyBarbossa
$25??!? Seriously? I'm with Cheeky.... the ones I've been seeing are around $100, give or take $20 at most. Wow... $25... I can SO handle that then. :) Easier to fork over that much than $100+. Oh, wicked, Lady Brower! :) Nice find. ~Lady B Tempt Fate! an' toss 't all t' Hell!" Lily Alexander
Are we talking about the same book? Patterns of Fashion 1, Janet Arnold. It's currently available from amazon, used for 18.87, new 26.37. List price on the back is 39.95, where are you seeing it for 100, so I know never to look for books there.
