  1. There's a nice little museum at the temple mound over in Ft. Walton (about 40 miles down the coast) which has some Bowles materials (he was actually one of my relatives) including a letter of Marque issued by his State of Muscogee.

Bowles is a latter day pirate, early 1800s, but sort of a james bondish character who came within a hair's breadth of changing north american history.

There is reputedly a sizable cache of spanish gold scuttled in his ship "Blackhawk" somewhere in the bayous there.

  4. One of the things I like about loyalist, even though they do handle indian work, is they're picky, and they won't handle a piece unless they can also supply replacement parts for same. I've dealt with em on two pieces now, and have been really impressed by the service.

  5. Have always avoided mal de mare, but I've a friend who swares by ginger tea, right before taking deck.

There's something about heavin back and forth in a tight, stuffy cabin that can get to the best of us tho.

  6. Y didn't say, lad, are ya looking for a firing reproduction or no? Most of the sources that sell live firelocks seem to have been havin trouble finding decent wheelocks lately. I suspects most of this stuff is coming out of India and Pakistan, and a lot of the vendors have suspended sellin em because apparently the stuff they're getting has been....well....crap, ....or unpredictable at best. some good sources for the live locks are:

    The Rifle Shop

    and

    Loyalist Arms and Repair
