  2. I guess we must have missed muster. Here's our info for the list although Paula doesn't post on the Pub. Jonathan Washbourne (Iron Jon), and Paula "La Paulista" Ft Lauderdale
  3. I try lend a hand where or whenever I'm needed. I'm not much of a veteran, having only been to PiP one time (two years ago), but I'd be happy to help you out if you want.
  4. What with moving and everything I also missed the post about sending in out registrations by the 1st. Did anyone ever come up with a fax number so we can send them directly to the Fort if possible?
  5. I missed the last few but I'm up for this again. Count me in.
  6. I just got a Kindle from Amazon and loaded it up with all kinds of good pirate reading from Project Gutenberg.
  7. I bought a few on ebay a while back. You can get all sizes and shapes of cured/dry gourds for less than $5 each.
  8. That's right - your turn. I was having True Blood withdrawals so I watched from Dusk til Dawn on Sunday instead!
  9. Ok then - "Has anybody here read a real book about vampires, or are we just remembering what a movie said? I mean a real book." "You mean like a Time-Life book?"
  10. Your new schedule makes more sense now... I take the 1900hrs Ice Detal for each day and I'll provide my own car too!
  11. I'll cover the ice detail or the trash detail. Do either of these require a vehicle to move the stuff around? Edit - I could also add the PM general grounds cleanup to the 2nd trash detail and kill 2 birds... so to speak.
  12. I also like Cachaca, a Brazilian liquor made from distilled sugar cane juice, which has been in production since the 1600's. It's kind of a cross between tequila and rum in my opinion. Paula always brings me back a few bottles when she goes home. You usually drink it in a 'caipirinha', which contains muddled lime, ice, and sugar.
  13. A little more history... Mezcal and Tequila trace their origins back at least two thousand years. Around the first century A.D., the Indian tribes that inhabited what is now central Mexico discovered that the juice of the agave plant, if left exposed to air, would ferment and turn into a milky, mildly alcoholic drink. News of this discovery spread throughout agave-growing areas. The Aztecs called this beverage octili poliqhui, a name that the Spaniards subsequently corrupted into pulque (POOL-kay). When the Spanish arrived in Mexico in the early 16th century, they soon began to make and drink pulque, but the low alcohol content (around 3%) and earthy, vegetal taste made it less popular among the conquistadors than European style beers and brandies. Early attempts to distill pulque were unsuccessful, as the resulting spirit was harsh and acrid. It was soon discovered, however, that cooking the agave pulp resulted in a sweeter juice which, when fermented, became known as Mezcal Wine. This "wine" was then distilled into the spirit that we know today as Mezcal. Early Mezcal distilleries in the Spanish colony of Mexico operated in a manner similar to modern-day brewpubs. The distilling plant was usually small, and its production was consumed primarily in the distillery tavern (taberna). As the colony grew, the Mezcal wine industry followed apace and soon became an important source of tax revenue for the Crown. Periodic attempts by Spanish brandy producers to shut down the Mezcal industry were about as unsuccessful as similar efforts by English distillers to inhibit rum production in the British colonies of North America. In 1656 the village of Tequila (named for the local Ticuilas Indians) was granted a charter by the governor of New Galicia. Tax records of the time show that Mezcal was already being produced in the area. This Mezcal, made from the local blue agave, established a reputation for having a superior taste, and barrels of the "Mezcal wine from Tequila" were soon being shipped to nearby Guadalajara and more distant cities such as the silver-mining boomtowns of San Luis Potosi and Aguascalientes. The oldest of the still-existing distilleries in Tequila dates back to 1795, when the Spanish Crown granted a distillers license to a local padrone by the name of Jose Cuervo...
  14. I'll take tails and say Full Metal Jacket for that one. "Get Some!!!"
  15. I'll be carrying along an extra tent to PiP for anyone who needs it. It's a small 6x8 wedge with all poles and stakes. You would still need to bring your own bedding though... (EDIT - I believe Mr Red Wake may have someone in mind for the tent.)
  16. Tá fáilte romhat... and I hope today is better than yesterday for you!
  17. Boo - I would like some of the bamboo poles too if you still have any left. I'd be willing to stop by sometime before PiP and load up a bunch to carry down to Key West for you also. I can fit up to about 12' long in my van. I drive by your area at least once a month anyway...
  18. Capt Stirling or William - Could you change my claim for a piece of land big enough for a 11x12 wall tent instead of the 6x8 wedge I asked for earlier? I'll still be setting up the fly with it. I haven't put all up yet to figure out the footprint with all the lines attached. This will free up the smaller tent for anyone needing a shelter for PiP. I'll bring it along just in case...
  19. Looks like something may be missing from it. If not, what is the purpose of the second thumb screw? It doesn't seem to hold the other arm away from the base or do anything else for that matter.
  20. I'm planning on getting a bigger wall tent in time for the trip. I'll have the small wedge tent I used last PiP available if I find a new one. I'll bring it along for you (or anyone else for that matter) just in case.
  21. I'll be leaving all my carpentry stuff here in NM so I won't be able to do that... I'll help out anywhere I'm needed though.
  22. We'll be back again with the old van... seats 8... plus more on the floor if necessary! You're welcome to use it any time.
