  1. I would have sworn that I answered this, or a thread just like it, back when I was actually still working! Anyway... I'm now recently retired from a job in federal law enforcement. I spent over 20 years of my career in South Florida and part of that time I was driving boats along the coast from Miami down through the Keys and out to the Tortugas. For the last year and a half I was teaching law to new recruits at the academy out in New Mexico for the same agency. Prior to the law instructor detail I taught pursuit driving and emergency response driving for almost a year. I retired for good on January 31st and relocated a few hundred miles north to Palm Bay where I'm now (halfheartedly) looking for a new job. Anybody have any good job leads in Central Florida?? Child support takes a big chunk out of my monthly annuity!
  2. Here's an advertisement for a physician who had a long-running ad printed on the back page of the Athenian Mercury in London, England from 1692-3. I guess maybe he changed his wording a little after a "common cheat" starting stealing some of his business. Take heed whom you Truft in Phyfick indeed!
  3. If you don't mind reading it on your computer or on an e-reader I suggest Gutenberg - Pepys-complete Lots of old books to download for free or to read online. I saved all of the Pepys on my Kindle along with Johnson, Defoe, Dampier, and all the other great pirate books available.
  4. Also the recent posts link isn't working and gives this message - "[#10182] Search is not available as the Sphinx API is not available, please contact an administrator about this issue"
  5. I missed this somehow too. We will need room again for a 12x10 wall tent and a 12x12 fly with all lines, etc, etc. I will also set up the small 6x9 wedge tent for anyone who needs it.
  6. Jonathan "Iron Jon" Washbourne is really Jon Hinman - 11th generation descendant of Edward Hinman, who arrived at Boston in June 1650 as a crewman aboard the William and George of London. Jonathan Washbourne, my pirate name, was taken from this story in the county records of Plymouth, MA - "In July 1701 Jonathan Washbourne Junr of Bridgwater appeared in court and was ordered to pay £5 fees and charges or be publicly whipped 20 stripes for his abusive and uncivil behaviour to Elizabeth Canaday Late of said Bridgwater by Thrusting up or putting of a skunk under the Cloaths to her Naked Body And then saying he had Done the office of a midwife. Washbourne paid the fine and became bound to his good behaviour until next term.” (Washburn also happens to be the maiden name of my grandmother.)
  7. Still looked good to me last week when we visited. Hadn't been there since I was a kid on a school field trip. It would definitely be a shame...
  8. I'm a little late reporting in, as usual, but I was Secret Santa for Mary Diamond. It was tough trying to figure out what to get for a person who has outstanding kit already! The medallion depicts the Archangel Michael for your pyrate Crewe and Saint Barbarba for the cannon crew. Little bit late for period though...
  9. I missed it last year but I always go at least a few weekends during the event. We'll be there for the pirate weekend this year for sure.
  10. I concur! I too received my shirt and sweatshirt today and they are great. ...and, 'Happy Holidays' to everyone also!
  11. I, for one, have no patience at all and can't stand waiting. I opened mine up when it arrived yesterday and I was very happy to find a new knife with rope work handle inside. If I were to venture a guess I would have to say that it is probably a "Hand"-made item! I'll post a picture whenever I find my camera again.
  12. I second all the comments and well wishes made above... Happy Birthday William !!!!
  13. I found a large cloth napkin (white, about 16") after the pig roast. I don't know if it's linen or not and it didn't have any embroidery that I know of. I'll check my bags again when I get into my storage space tomorrow and see if it matches anything here.
  14. Mine also... as soon as I get it in the mail it'll be back in the mail again!
  15. Ahoy Iron John! Grand meeting ye in Paradise ~

  16. Maybe some research along the lines of the Knights Hospitaller or the Sovereign Order of St John of Jerusalem would uncover some sort of symbol for a battlefield medic.
  17. If my time is up, and I make it back in time, Paula and I will be camping with the Mercury crew once again!
  18. Pics were great! Thanks!

  19. Here's a link to a Flickr Slideshow - Hope it works! Fort Taylor Pirate Fest - PiP 2009
