  1. thanks much for the link :)
  2. my boyfriend sent me Hey Nostradamus by Douglas Coupland for my birthday so i'm reading that it's very good so far :)
  3. the water's going down, but we're now in a conservation and water boiling order. any water for consumption has to be boiled, and it's probably not a good idea to bathe in non-boiled water either... there are about 46,000 gallons of oil in the flood water but it's started receding a bit i live on a rural route so it's not so heinous out here, we can get into town now, it's just that everything SMELLS SO BAD! hehe how are things in osawatomie? you guys didnt get off too easily either did you? and i'll definitely try to make it to the festival! sounds like fun :)
  4. thanks for all the welcomes :)
  5. stays are another thing i was thinking about, any places you'd particularly recommend on those?
  6. thanks! :) it's acrylic on scrap newsprint actually, 24"x14"
  7. i'll probably wind up staying on the fantasy side of things =p as my "frilly tomboy" personality is demanding... haha ANYWAY, i think i can follow your instructions, miss crow :) i'd never have thought to use duct ties for boning thanks again :)
  8. it's made out of pressed wood bits, and it's pretty hard what were you thinking of doing with it?
  9. ahhh thanks william red wake, "heraldic" was the word i was trying to think of =p this is what i ended up with: the blue dog didn't turn out QUITE how i wanted it because i messed up a little while painting it, but oh well :)
  10. that coat you made is still pretty fantastic i saw it on shoutfit :)
  11. would anyone with any historical books have any illustrations of mermaids and dogs? i'm working on a couple of flag designs and i'd like to toy with different things =p ANYWAY, there are aloooottt of really awesome flags here, good work you guys
  12. hahaha that'll be the day no, what i'm saying is that they know that WE know =p so they'll probably wait until it's sorta blown over, and theeeeen rip it off =p
  13. i'd say it turned out rather well :) it would be the first time i'd done a large scale sewing project, too, so "good work!" i would very much like instructions :) thanks!
  14. i think there will be some, though. people are just sort of "waking up" to how lucrative pirates still are =p maybe they're trying to come up with something "perfect" to outshine was disney's managed to do i think at this stage though, consumers are kind of "aware" of the rip-off factor in hollywood. "Ants" and "A Bugs Life," "Finding Nemo," and "A Shark's Tale," etc. nobody wants to be the "rip off movie" =p
  15. I'm sure you guys have seen it, but I didn't see a thread about it, so I figured I'd start one. Well, after seeing DMC, I flipped out over the crab shaped necklaces (as did a bajillion other people, so it seems) because I've been looking for something non-ordinary to attach my boyfriend's picture to =p (i'm such a loser, i know) Master Replicas has a gorgeous replica of Tia Dalma's necklace for only $10, and I've seen much uglier ones for even higher prices, which is beyond me. (I'm in the process of lengthening the chain, though I might change my mind. And I'd really like to find out how to make it into an actual functioning locket/music box.) and then of course, there's this if only i could afford that anyway, just thought i'd share they ship with DHL and last month was free shipping month, so i dunno about shipping now...
  16. i think also, well with a more historic movie, everyone eventually knows how it ends. polices are passed to end piracy, pirates are hanged in mass quantities, etc etc so even if the characters make it out of the present situation in this movie, they're doomed anyway, and that takes the "magic" away for the general population i think (beyond johnny depp) what makes the POTC movies stand out is that people identify with the legendary, folklorish free-wheeling pirate spirit (especially nowadays when we're pretty much all stuck at desks or cubicles, i know that's what i'm primarily into) AND the facination with magic and the "unknown depths," sea monsters, mysterious pirate treasure, "the still beatin' heart o' davy jones," etc etc =p but johnny depp's portrayal of captain jack did indeed have alot to do with it. if you read a review now, it's all "pirates rules! whoo!" but like caraccioli said, the reviews at the time give his characterization much more credit for the success of the movie (everybody knows SOMEONE who went to see it just BECAUSE depp was in it =p)
  17. they're fantastic little animals. i thought i'd like them when i got them but i didnt think they would be as personable as they are. they all learned their names (i had four at one time, winken is the last one. they were winken, blinken, nod and ben, the brothers finkk =p) if they heard me coming in, they'd be at the edge of the cage, poking their noses out to greet me i could leave the cage doors open so they could hang out (literally) or climb out and up the sides, and they'd never leave the cage, it's one of those things about rat nature =p they like to have everything in as close proximity as possible they like riding around on your shoulder, or in your pockets some pirates have their parrots, some have their monkeys, but i've got my bilge rats =p sadly, i may have to say farewell to winken soon as rats are prone to do, he's developed a tumor in his groin, and the vets may or may not be able to remove it, it depends on how big it actually is and how dangerous it would be to take it out. the trouble with vets is that, just because they experiemented on them in vet school, every vet will say "oh yeah i can treat rats." BUT they fail to mention that their rat-based lessons were seldom with the interest of makign the rat BETTER. so alot of them are actually unable to do this. i found that out the hard way.
  18. another benefit i've noticed already from riding the bike is that my joints aren't creaking and popping quite as much as they used to =p it sounds horrible to talk about that when you're only 23, but i can only thank the bajillions of joint injuries from being a "frilly tomboy" =p my "weather joints" havent given me much trouble lately, and we've had QUITE a bit of bad weather... what kind of bridge did you go over? was it one of the enormously tall ones? the last time i crossed one of those on foot, it was so old, the wood planks were rotting and if you weren't careful you could step in between them. that was a nightmare =p
  19. this certainly sounds like me... hahhaa especially number 5... eep. (for anyone who also craves "staying-up-pajamas," walmart has ridiculously lovely terry cloth smocked loungers. i got three different colors =p) i try not to stay online all the time, though, because i'm afraid of getting eye fatigue. but there's not too much else to do, really. good thing is, my pet rat is nocturnal, too =p and nutella's great for that "final stretch pick me up" =p anyway, yes.... consider it Signed.
  20. I agree =p but most nut mixes have far too many peanuts, unless you go out of your way to buy a specialty mix... which is annoying... *waits for the day when almonds become the "base" nut* for the record, i love random thoughts threads. every single forum i've ever been on has had one they're a wonder of human ingenuity, they are hehehe :)
  21. Like Duchess said, you can usually get the thin cordy stuff sold already as fringe. Or you know those big tassels they sell for curtain pullbacks? those would probably work as well. They come in all sorts of sizes from very small to gigantihuge =p good luck on your belt! :)
  22. I'm very much looking forward to the Pirates in Fells Point event I sent them an email asking about next year (speaking of which, now I'm figuring the Crimson Corsair here is the one associated with that as well?) As of now, it looks like I will just be going to the re-enactments and historical stuff as a spectator, and doing anything "piratey" primarily on my own =p oh well
  23. hmmm then i'd be a "fantasy pirate" either way then eh well thanks much i'd prefer to dress as a chick, so i'll just beeee a chick =p maybe i'll make up a male persona later
  24. What places would you guys suggest for buying one? Or patterns for making one? I'm working on putting together (edit) a better costume, while it may not be accurate, and any suggestions and/or personal experiences/references would be appreciated thanks!
