  1. Orange Mermaid Orange fer the Dutch colors we often fly. Mermaid fer it be a mariner’s superstition of ill fortune when ye see one. If ye be sailin alone in the open see, it will indeed be yer unlucky day when the Orange Mermaid comes into range.
  2. From afar all I see is that the British have gotten so interested in placating every possible group that they have just out and out given up on being British. It reminds me of when I was up in Canada working with the Candian Army. One day this Canuck says to me, "To bad you Americans aren't British, that way when somebody called you an Imperialist you could glory in it." Well, the world done turned again and them days are in the past.
  3. A forward operating base (FOB) is any secured forward position that is used to support tactical operations. A FOB may or may not contain an airfield, hospital, or other facilities. The base may be used for an extended period of time. FOB's are traditionally supported by main operating bases that are required to provide backup support to them. A FOB also reduces reaction time and increases time on task to forces operating from it. Wrong FOB?

  5. If you get the Wealth HD TV channel, on their Wealth on Art series they have an epsiode that is a fun romp through the Ojai Pirate Fair in 2008. For some services this will be offered only as an on demand feature. If you do get a chance to see it, aye, that be Greydog and much of the Alliance of the Double Cross in many a scene. Ye even get to see and hear Oderlesseye in the opening shot of the show! Tis a fun fluff piece and nothin more than that. Fair Winds, -Greydog
  6. Info on that well ahead of time would be most appreciated. With the finances as they are in the world today, to fly out from California for a one day event really isn't in the cards. We are very familiar with that neck of the woods and think the event sounds first rate all round and might be do able if there was a bit more there to draw us as back. So, if ye could be postin a bit more of what be in the often to participate in, it would be most appreciated. Fair winds, -Greydog
  7. Thank you for the information & website!

  9. The Cannon Super Store is offering the following Cavet Emptor item. (Go to the webpage and look at the photo’s fer yerself if thar be an interest. The add is ¾ down the page) Cannon Super Store Add Text of add: This is a very hard to find full size reproduction of a 9 pounder Naval cannon. It is very heavy duty and includes a custom made duel axle trailer with a spare tire and ammo and tool boxes, implements, ramps, etc. It is about 25 years old and needs to be restored. The carriage is good, but needs repair to the front axle which is made of oak wood. Overall barrel length: 93 inches (7.75 feet) Bore: 4.25 inches Complete set-up with trailer etc. is priced at: $8,495 US, Plus delivery costs or pick up FREE in southern Maine Note: The trailer is not licensed and needs new tires and temporary lights to move it. Anybody have any comments? To me it looks like they failed to put any "reproduction period" markings on the tube when it was made and I don't know what those numbers are for on the tube. I put this in this area of the pub as I thought there might be some desire to speak about the gun, more than a serious announcement of it being for sale. That's also a give away price, so this gets all kinds of buyer beware signal flares going off.
  10. Here's the story from MSNBC: By Mitch Stacy TAMPA, Fla. - Deep-sea explorers who found $500 million in sunken treasure two years ago say they have discovered another prized shipwreck: A legendary British man-of-war that sank in the English Channel 264 years ago. The wreckage of the HMS Victory, found below about 330 feet of water, may carry an even bigger jackpot. Research indicates the ship was carrying 4 tons of gold coins when it sank in storm, said Greg Stemm, co-founder of Odyssey Marine Exploration. So far, two brass cannons have been recovered from the wreck, Stemm said. The Florida-based company said it is negotiating with the British government over collaborating on the project. "This is a big one, just because of the history," Stemm said. "Very rarely do you solve an age-old mystery like this." Thirty-one brass cannons and other evidence on the wreck allowed definitive identification of the HMS Victory, 175-foot sailing ship that was separated from its fleet and sank in the English Channel on Oct. 4, 1744, with at least 900 men aboard, the company said. The ship was the largest and, with 110 brass cannons, the most heavily armed vessel of its day. It was the inspiration for the HMS Victory famously commanded by Adm. Horatio Nelson decades later. Odyssey was searching for other valuable shipwrecks in the English Channel when it came across the Victory. Stemm wouldn't say exactly where the ship was found for fear of attracting plunderers, though he said it wasn't close to where it was expected. "We found this more than 50 miles from where anybody would have thought it went down," Stemm said. Federal court records filed by Odyssey in Tampa seeking the exclusive salvage rights said the site is 25 to 40 miles from the English coast, outside of its territorial waters. A Ministry of Defense spokesman said Sunday the government was aware of Odyssey's claim to have found the Victory. "Assuming the wreck is indeed that of a British warship, her remains are sovereign immune," he said on condition of anonymity in keeping with government policy. "This means that no intrusive action may be taken without the express consent of the United Kingdom." He would not say whether the government had begun talks with Odyssey over the future of the find. Newspapers of the day and other historical records analyzed by the company indicated that the Victory sank off the Channel Island of Alderney near Cherbourg, France. A 1991 British postage stamp depicts the Victory crashing on the rocks there. Pieces of the ship had washed up in various places, but its final resting place remained a mystery. The belief that the Victory had crashed onto the rocks had marred an otherwise exemplary service record of the ship's commander, Sir John Balchin, and a lighthouse keeper on Alderney was prosecuted for failing to keep the light on. Odyssey believes the discovery exonerates both men. "As far as the family is concerned, it is an astonishing revelation," said Robert Balchin, a 66-year-old British university administrator and direct descendant of the commander. "It's as if he's sort of come alive again. "When I went to see this extraordinary find of the cannon with the coat of arms of the king on the side, it was really a wonderful feeling to know that Sir John Balchin saw that every day, and it brought a very special communion with the past." The HMS Victory was returning from Lisbon, Portugal, and was probably transporting 100,000 gold Portuguese coins for merchants, according to Odyssey's research. The ship had sailed there to help rescue a Mediterranean convoy blockaded by the French in the River Tagus at Lisbon. The wreck site is roughly 70 feet by 200 feet and littered with other debris, Odyssey said. Its research ship, Odyssey Explorer, is equipped with a remote underwater robot capable of carefully removing the smallest of items from the bottom and shooting high-resolution photos and video. The company's work on the Victory is the subject of an upcoming Discovery Channel TV show. Odyssey, a publicly traded corporation, announced in May 2007 that it had raised 17 tons of silver coins from an Atlantic Ocean shipwreck. The company later said it believed the wreck to be the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes y las Animas, which sank off Portugal in 1804. Shortly afterward, the Spanish government sued Odyssey in federal court in Tampa to claim the treasure, arguing that the shipwreck was never abandoned by Spain. The case is pending. Some in the Spanish government have called the company 21st-century pirates, and twice in the months after the 2007 announcement, ships from Spain's Civil Guard seized Odyssey ships off the Spanish coast. Both ships and their crews were released within a week. The company's relationship with the British government has been more cordial. Odyssey had already negotiated an agreement with British officials regarding the search for the HMS Sussex, which sank in the western Mediterranean in 1694 with gold coins aboard. © 2009 The Associated Press. 12. PETA had their ad pulled because it was too sexual. Ashley Madison had their ad refused becuase the NFL won't advertise that kind of moral misconduct. Now the NFL is upset that the lingerie bowl at the nudist camp got cancelled because the female players said that did not meet THEIR standards. Hmmmm.
  13. Shiny Pole (Polish in this case resulted in a shiny Pole, via using polish to polish the Pole. As opposed to using polish to polish the pole. Next we shall discuss how to pronounce lead.)
  14. The one problem I have had with doglocks is if the dog is loose that when shooting down (such as from rigging) one can get a nasty surprise of the dog engaging during the act of firing. One can tell when this occurs as the firer will announce it via the mis-fire procedure command of "Oh, SHITE!" -Greydog

  16. Speaking of swivel guns, while Wild Imports is now defunct. They have been replaced by Lone Star Artillery as the US distributor for Osvaldo Gatto’s cannon made in Argentina. I have the swivel gun from Mr. Gatto and I am exceptionally pleased with it (Note- I got it through the defunct Wild Imports). Here’s the link for Lone Star (I have not done business with them, other than to verify they are the new distributor.) Lone Star Artillery And here is the link to Osvaldo Gatto in Argentina (He did not want to deal directly with me when I contacted him.) Osvaldo Gatto Cannon Site
  17. I understand that for tonight's entertainment they shall be singing "Over the bounding Main" while doing jumping jacks.
  18. 81 degrees F here today when it should be in the 60's. No rain, and we are starting third year of drought which is not the cyclic norm. Water rationing is being predicted and this is January. Oh, my gosh that means! It means we have had a shift in the jet stream. Not the private jet riding Al Gore's global warming, which in the last four months has become a discussion of global cooling. Now we need MORE CO2 to thrawt global cooling? Oi ve, my head hurts.
  19. Don't forget the "Peter the Great" as a hat option as well if you want a knitted hat with a brim.
  20. Oh, Baxter, over here lad. Can't you see we have a member in need? There, there Animal tut tut, a job well done calls for one to relax with a rum and Cubano, that's what the club is here for. Baxter, see to it that Animal's wants go on my tab. Cherrieo, Reggie Stuffedshirt, III, Dcm, Abwy, Esq Colonel, Royal Horse Marine Regiment
  21. This looks like a lot of fun to me. I have met both of these actors and they were very outgoing and fan friendly. They'd sit down and chat with you even though they may have answered that same question like 5,000 times. If you don't know about the making of films this could also be fun in that area as well. If you like Star Trek, Lee Arenberg is a guest actor on many a show from the different series. So, do pirates and get Star Trek at the same time. Like I said, sounds fun to me. Of course this is a Disney cruise so I'd expect a lot of little kids on the ship, with all the attendant wonders young children can bring to your cruising experience. LMAO The rub here is that the price is on top of the cruise price, so unless you were going on the cruise to begin with this isn't a few hundred dollars it's closer to $2,000 on the low end for both your inside cabin and the bump for the "pirate special" and that's before air fare. If I was going on that cruise anyway, I'd pay for the "pirate special" bump, but one needs to be going anyway IMO.
