  1. my opinion there- a tattooshould just be porportionate to the area where its placed.a small tattoo on a small part (writs, ankle),larger tattoos on larger areas (calf, upper arm) and it should be the right shape a tattoo on the forarm should be taller than it is wide, on the upper back usually wider than tall, etc. thats how i (and most professionals) would explain it. the rest is totally up to you
  2. thanks so much for the input.it helps alot.i have always been into fantasy but am just now starting to get into the authentic. i am gonna finish this coat because i am happy with it so far,but i think i will buy that better pattern for future projects (im always working on something).
  3. i found these pics online and im thinking of making some (with a modern shoe as a base). im just wondering if anyone knows what years these shoes seem to be from.they just say 17th cent and 18th.thanks for any imput
  4. very true. i didnt quite think of that
  5. i just got back from seeing transformers, and i liked it overall, but thought the fight scene was too drawn out.i got very bored.
  6. heres just a pic of a tattoo i did last week that i really am pleased with (i dont say that often).just wanted to share it
  7. i guess what i mean is just smaller or larger stitches.ive hand sewed things with large stitches that hold up just as well as small stitches, just with topstitching it would look different. i admit i dont know half as much about the historical stuff as alot of you guys tho.
  8. your body is the one thing that will always be fully yours, so you have to do what you wish with it. i have 27 tattoos,7 peircings and 1/2 inch guages in my ears, sometimes my hair is pink- who cares what anyone thinks.
  9. but im sure not every garment was made with the exact same care. fancier ,more expensive clothes probably had finer stitching than very plain peasanty clothes.thats how it is today even
  10. could you give me more info on the neck? id loveany inp ut on making it better. it isnt lined yet,and it is kinda stiff fabric, but i had to take the pic myself with the timer,in a very small room.lol.ill get better pics when its done. heres the back.it has alot of pleating- a nice side gusset and back gusset.its made using that POTC simplicity pattern.
  11. the closest i get by machine is just using the largest stitch.hand-sewing that is done neatly would resemble that. my black coat is entirely hand sticthed-even the lining, and the red one is moslty hand stitched.
  12. lol. the pants are just my normal everyday pants-so hollywood is ok as for the coat, shirt and vest im going for mostly an authentic look but not right down to the stitch detail. do they look too hollywood? cause im using actual historic pics as resources.
  13. yes thanks.i too beleive that having some stuff french, some indian, etc, would be perfectly plausable.i even like to explore a broader time frame- since pirates have existed as long as boats have.(i know this forum isnt about them tho) i dont think im well liked here for some reason tho because when i post pics i get no response.lol
  14. i like the anchor, the shading was very well done.
  15. im now reading the Pirate Hunter- the true story of captain kidd. i didnt know too much about him before, but this book goes into great detail of his life and the lives of pirates and privateers in general.
  16. lol.no i just hate pics of myself,so i cropped my own head off. i just want to show the clothes anyway, not me
  17. heres some stuff im working on.its my second coat ive made,3rd shirt and first vest, but not the last of any.lol.theyre not done but i plan to post pics as soon as they are.any constructive criticism?
  18. true. disneyland/world have always changed with the times to stay up to date.i have only been a few times but i know of many things that changed in the 3 year period i was regularly going.it aways will change.it would be dull if it didnt.
  19. where is that? i never even knew there was a pirates magazine (when i clicked on"quote" i accidentally clicked on "report".any way to undo that?)
  20. well coming from a professional tattoo artist i can tell you that tattoos had meanings at one time, but now nautical stars, etc, seem to mean "my buddy just got them and they look cool".especially nautical stars.i must do about 10 of them a week
  21. heres the pair i usually wear .i know they are not authentic but theyre the best i have right now,and they look ok in the full garb
  22. lol i keep all fabric scraps.i recently made myself throw away any pieces smaller than a 4" square, and that was hard.lol
  23. lol.i always wondered about the quaker oat guy. i work about 60 hours a week but i love my job so i dont complain. tattooing is a great job.i also draw portraits professionally.i dont make much but its better than hating my job.
  24. whats the diameter of those, and how do we order some?
