  1. I’m in for meal plans.

I’m also driving, so can bring on any needed supplies- or go get some if needed.

Sorry I haven’t been reading planning posts.

In the last month we’ve had:

    2 wrecks

Replaced a car (which involved time looking at cars)

    Worked full time

Sent off 2 kids to college (junior & a freshman)

& I’m trying to get me handsewn flag done.

    Project: Tartan Jack’s Tartan Jack

    - Skull getting finished now, then need to add the crossed bones (basing design, loosly, on the Stede Bonnet woodcut).

We are strongly encouraging all participants to purchase a period lantern for the event.  The added lighting at night will improve the photo opportunities and atmosphere of the camps.  We are also doing some after hours events which may involve walking around (we'll explain this later) and you'll want a good lantern.

    A good source or 4?

  3. I came across this image on-line & it looks real familiar, like it’s half a page in a kid-oriented pirate history book.

I know the cutout is from a 1996 book (see images in the replies), but this version is perplexing me, esp the fact I can’t just pull out the book it’s in.

  4. I wandered off after several of the groups I was involved with (inc Blackjohn’s) fell apart.

My son did competitive youth baseball from 2013-2017 (his team won 3 DYB (southern equivalent of little league- & home to many of the old, good youth programs) state titles, coming in 2nd & 3rd twice in the world series.

    Then … travelball.

Now, high school ball & we’ll see the next phase of baseball ….

I make my own baseball jerseys- ususlly a custom felt emblem over a blank jersey atop another emblem.

Also, joined the 501st Legion as a TIE pilot & gunner.

Now, back into pirate stuff, which also leads me back into Scottish stuff (overlapping period)

I've used Red Hawk Trading Company.  http://www.redhawktrading.com/products.html

I used them for several reasons.  People bragged on the rugged construction, and they aren't wrong.  The tents are very well made.  Also, they were within driving distance, so no shipping costs.  Also...they were an odd size, because a custom order had fallen through so we bought two of them for a reduced price.  I can't say enough good about them.  That said, while my tent is a simple wedge, it isn't period.  Close, but not period.

It's hard to find close tents, but there are more period ones out there in terms of cut and materials.

    Now … I want a tipi …

    The tarp-fly is what’s I’d probably get.

  6. Got it.

(3 copies, actually- thought I lost it, bought another, found the first, & the third recently to allow lending out)

The origins of that one aren’t addressed. Plus, with all the research & stuff found through the digitization of materials, I wondered what has been found.

-Used a copy to show the size of the quakers made by Sutler John 15 or so years ago-

  7. When last I looked into it, the origins of the “Moody” red flag was a 1750s French manuscript. But, looking at stuff now, I see earlier dates given.

What do we know of the design?

-I’d love to get Foxe’s, Little’s, & Konstam’s (if he’s on here) views, as well as any others.

    Thanks,

    -Tartan Jack

I’ve always found it visually striking.
