  1. I wish it wasn't true. I always keep this place in my bookmarks and keep pointing to it like a compass points to true north. I suppose those of us who stick around or keep returning are the fair and true pirates. Considering how fleeting many youth, and elders, interests are and their NEED to have EVERYTHING at their fingertips quite literally that forums are 'inconvenient' to them because if some place doesn't have an app for easy go-to ability, they will no go looking for it. Sad, says I. Down right sad!
To be honest, keep fighting for the Pub. I pray it sticks around because the next generation of Pirates will need something. After all, these other places advertising for joining crews require a HUGE payment, and who else really advertises and discusses a lot about piracy? The Pub is a Pirate's Treasure, to be sure.

M' black heart remains here at the Pub.

  2. Alright... I admit... I'm a big tea person! And as much as I fancy some of the coffee drinks, too, like cappecinos, mocha latte's, etc... I do enjoy a good tea, too.

Now, I bought my mom some of the special Downton Abbey teas, and I've had friends give me tea blends, too. So my curious question is.. has anyone come across any mention anywhere of blended teas during the 17th and 18th century? Like a green tea with cloves and cinnamon or black tea with mulling spices or white tea with strawberries and rose hips.

My other curiosity is how specialized tea was during that time and how much of it was worth to a pirate when they took a prize full of tea, spices, fabrics, and other trade items.

  3. Your best bet is to design it yourself. Don't use an exact copy of an image. If being sued by someone is your concern, again, just design it yourself and construct the flag yourself. Many High School teams have been under fire by Colleges and Universities, even Professional Sports groups who have gone through this issue. Again, it's always best to just design it yourself.

By all means, create your Colours that best represents your crew. Always keep that in mind. That's the point of a flag is the symbolism and the message they are trying to convey.

  4. This is both pirate and general related as I have been dealing with this long enough especially after a recent post on my pirate group's facebook page. This has also happened on non-piratical forums and sites, too.

It is truly BAD etiquette and terribly narcissistic of anyone to post something on a site or a facebook page or forum that's more advertising and has nothing to do with liking or praising or inquiries of a group or crew. This is on the increase again and I think it needs to be addressed yet again.

If you want to advertise on a crew's page or forum, PLEASE ASK FOR PERMISSION FIRST!

I think in the Social Media behavior many have lost their manners and just haven't a mind for rules and regulations any more.

So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be considerate of a crew's page or forum. They want to hear from people about their crew and events, not from other groups advertising about about something.

Please... BE COURTEOUS towards other Pirate Crews. PLEASE!

  5. Welcome Madame. Hahaha, never thought I'd actually be using that title beyond courtesy. ;)

Glad ye found the pub. And sounds like a wonderful grand ambition! I like the idea.

Aye, tis a good thing to be never satisfied and keep researching, creating and recreating, etc. :D

  6. Aye, it would be worth it. But... Alas, for some, it's too far. It's keeping in mind those in the Milwaukee and Chicago area who are unable to travel more than 2 hrs to an event. For those up that direction, including myself, it's a 6 hr drive. Granted gas has come down, but not enough for some people to be able to make an event over 2 hrs away.

It's a hope... that perhaps there will be another event between Chicago and Milwaukee. Until then, there's the BucCornEar Festival in September, but there is the Buccaneer Bash on that weekend in June that is in SW Michigan.

The person who "owns" Port Washington Pirate Festival is hoping to "Sell" the Festival off to someone or the City.

    I'm staying optimistic.

  7. It's the 4th annual BucCornEar Festival in Helmsburg, Indiana put on by the Jackson Township Fire Department. A fun little event so come out and support the Firefighters that work hard to bring this fun little Festival to you!

For more information, check out their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/BucCornEar

The BucCornEar Festival will be held September 18th & 19th, 2015... in little Helmsburg, Indiana at the firestation.

A gauntlet for participants to partake in, plenty of entertainment, fun games, vendors, car show, and more!

For Pirates (who they NEED DESPERATELY!)... there IS a place for a Historical Pirate Encampment! The more pirates, the better.

Any takers? Don't hesitate to support the Firefighters of Jackson Township. Contact the Event Coordinators today.

  8. :: nods :: MANY did. Just like a ship, a Festival takes MANY to make it work.

Someday though. Someday there will be another Pirate Fest perhaps between Milwaukee and Chicago. Maybe both places. There's a GREAT Rev War reenactment group in the area, too, that I'm certain some of it's members would be MORE than glad to partake... some of them have and have enjoyed the Pirate Fests... as did the Guild fo St Michel from Bristol. So... PLENTY of potential participants from all fronts. There just needs to be a Committee to spearhead the Fest and keep it going. Location is also key.

  9. Welcome to the Pub, good sir.. beer belly... Christian. Aye, I'll stick with Christian. Tis a good seafaring name. ;)

Quite the story ye have there. Never give up though. They have to surrender to truth, reality, & history sometime. It's better to have a person aware of the past then to walk blindly arrogant into the future.

Glad ye have made your mark to enjoy life as a freebooter. Plenty of info on here. By all means, have fun with it. :) And I feel yer pain about those dressing up as an excuse to drink.

    Bring on the history! :D

  10. ::: Nods ::: agreed, Jim. The pencils are not unlike the ones used on the Lewis & Clark expedition. shall have to see if I can put an image on here without putting it on Photobucket.

The steel pen, I can see, too. Again shall have to look for these images. I know I pinned a LOT of period items on my Pinterest board, Pirate Portrayal. Amazing to see how much incredible stuff was at that time frame of the GAoP.

    Great find, Jim! :D
