  1. Sorry for the double posting here but... I TRIED to play my viola and my niece's violin like a cello, and... well.... epic fail! Not so much the placement of fingers, but the string and bow movement and placement. If you had a shorter bow, it might work. The lower cord strings are tilted that makes it difficult to play. Possible with LOTS and LOTS of practice, I guess. Good luck! Otherwise, a Viola Da Gamba might be a lot of fun to play with the extra cords as a mini-cello.

  2. Viola is a lovely sound. Anyone have links to the sheet music to the songs they play? If it's in typical Treble clef, that's fine. I can easily convert to Alto clef.
I can certainly play "Blow the man down" and "Drunken Sailor" on viola, as well as "British Grenadiers". That's awesome ye mentioned "Au Claire de la Lune", Mr Bagley. I think I have that somewhere and shall have to learn that one, too.

I've a viola and was learning to play that. I had a cheap plastic fife once and always dream of that gorgeous rosewood fife. I suppose a fife could have been an instrument that was possibly played, too, aye?

  3. Neat examples.

I've been lucky from time to time to find pewterware, including porringers. Plenty of pewter drinkware, too, like tankards and little alcohol sippers. All drinkware have solid bottoms to them, instead of the clear fake bottom. The more wonderful surprise, and I snatched them up quickly, were the Blue Danube or Blue Onion tableware as those are the closest I've seen to period tableware. Lord! Those plates back then were STUNNING! I even found tankard made in Holland that wasn't delft, but perfectly mimicked 18th century designs. All the above I've found at Goodwill over the years.

The most difficult or impossible to find have been the 3 or 2 prong forks. A lot can pass for the spoons and knives, but nothing today can mimic the forks.

Does anyone bring period like bottles? Like the onion bottle?

  4. So... apparently PotC 1 is NOT showing in Iowa. I guess when Disney meant select, they really meant "let's show PotC in too few theaters and not show it in some states!" sort of thing. Foreign fans are livid. I don't blame them.

Either way, watch PotC and post about it. Grab Disney's attention. There was a hint from Martin Klebba of PotC 6, so.. like it or not, we just might get another PotC film after all. 🏴‍☠️

  5. Heads up!

Disney is actually doing something! They are re-releasing films to theaters starting next month until October, and Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl is slated to be in select theaters (Marcus Theaters confirmed) in the US from July 7 - 21, 2023! So, we get PotC on it's 20th anniversary!

I say let's show Disney that Pirates is still beloved and spread the word! 🏴‍☠️

  6. I've not yet planned that far ahead yet as there's been FAR too much happening this month, and for the next week and a half that I just can't get my head beyond July 1st. Sad, I know.
However, I wish I could participate in something. I'm a bit marooned, as it were.

Well, PotC led me to meet all ye fine people! Some in person! I've had some of amusing swashbuckling adventures, including some delightful moments pestering Jack Sparrow. PotC was, and still is, refreshing.
And honestly never thought Barbossa's mysterious beloved would actually be used in the films. Surprise! At least Lady B has a proper name now.

I know some fans are eager to do something, looking for something, wanting... something.

  7. Mr Bagley is a gem! He's got the best option!
Aye, Mission. Checkpoint Security will definitely freak out about it, even if you inform them ahead of time and definitely inform them before you put the case on the x ray belt. Alas, telling them it's delicate historical surgical equipment might not work, but kindness does go a long way and hopefully the security person is having a decent day. Then again, I'm not sure they will allow you to take some of the items on the carry-on. I'd say check with the airline counter, but Mr Bagley's offer is genuinely best. That's my 2 doubloons worth from a former Checkpoint Security person. Yeah, it sucks flying with that sort of stuff.
