  1. Hmmmm.. now I am REALLY wishing I lived down there. Between Jack & Barbossa down there... as well as a fantastic crew of others...

Cascabel! I do hope you'll be frequenting GARF. I plan to go there in May (weekend of the 8th & 9th) to see a few other pirates.

Tis a pity it's a month from now... Plenty of pictures, all. Would love to see them. & hopefully, see a large crew of pirates.

I'll see if I can spread the word. ;)

  2. :P

Aye, Paisley... you are making it rather difficult for me to just commandeer a vehicle & make way out that direction. I've got 2 new pirate flags... including one with crimson red dots in the eyes. Rather wicked.

Again... alas.. I won't be able t' make it. Again... tell your captain... if next I be down that direction, he can "deal" with me. :P

So .... in the meantime... party double time in my stead! :P

  3. ;);) Ahhh.. the memories. I remember watching that 'round about when it came out on VHS. 'Round about the time I saw "the Goonies" as well. I enjoyed "Captain Ron". Barely remember it, but I remember I enjoyed it.

  4. Alas... won't be there. My dad will be visiting me from Arizona at that time. Such a bummer. Otherwise, if he wasn't.. I'd swing over for the event after GARF!

So.. have double the fun, ladies & gents!

The camping would have been TONS of fun! I've me own Rev War tent & enjoy that lots when at re-enactments. :)

  5. Sail in with the Black Pearl... bombard the bejesus out of them.

I say do the same thing to Eisner as Barbossa did to Bootstrap Bill! Tie him to a cannon & send him to the crushing black oblivion! AARRRR!!! ;)

  6. I have one of the 882 props made by Disney (I know a guy who did some set design & construction for the film) and mine is single sided... you see the single sided a few times (some of the extra selections on the DVD show the single flipping into blackness). Both singles and doubles were made as props, and are seen on screen. I don't know the rhyme or reason for this, but there it is... the design on the back is supposed to be an "Aztec design"... anyone out there know anymore about this phenomenon? I'd be interested ta know meself!

They are right nice, those cursed gold coins. I just want to take :: hand grab motion:: them all! :: Evil grinz

As for the design on the back... it's a similar design on my knife/dagger I have which is from Mexico from an area known as Oaxaca. I'm still trying to find out info on this, it was part of the Aztec empire, the southern territory.

Again, I am also trying to find out info on what the design means. It's not as easy as it seems either.

The gold could be similiar to the reference like what happened to the Inca king... the Incas brought gold in from the various areas of the empire as ransom to release their King. But Pizzarro paniced, thinking this was a diversion for the Incas to build a mighty army.. kill the king & took off with the gold... despite it's unknown what happened to the gold, after it's more than likely they melted it all down.

  7. ;) What FUN, Maggie! Thanx for the link!

I typed in my ful name (first, middle & last) got "Bloody Esmerelda". Then typed in just my first & last name, got "Black Constance".

::amused rolling & pondering eyes:: I'll just add them to my list of nicknames now. I like them both. ::: evil grinz:::

  10. I was beyond excited when I heard Barbossa was part of the release. Bravo to who decided that. I could kiss them... but that is reserved for Barbossa..

As to the TV Show... :: shrugs:: guess we will see. I guess... if it will be animated, I would like to see it look better. I've not been impressed with the animations lately. The old ones like Snow White, Fox & the Hound, Peter Pan... that was good animation. Less Japanimation likeness, & more proper American. I thought that the animation in "Return to Neverland" was a bit... degrading compared to "Peter Pan".

Live action... would be interesting enough. I'm sure there are a few gents out there who could very well pass off as a Johnny Depp carbon copy of Jack Sparrow. I know there is a young man up here in Cedar Rapids that works at a local theater... a DEAD ON to Orlando Bloom as Will Turner! No joke! I've done many a double take & still swear it's Orlando! Everyone I know has seen this young man & it's WAY too uncanny! Plus... if it be a mini-series type thing like "Return to Treasure Island" which I enjoyed greatly... that would be cool! I'm sure there are MANY stories that can be told.

Just as long as they don't.. botch it up.

Can wait for the toys!!!! I am SOOOO looking forward to them. & Yes, especially Barbossa. ::innocent look with halo above head::

  11. Despite how annoying this is, Bess.. you have to admit.. thisis rather amusing.

Either that or you can pull off a Barbossa... eye roll, pull out the pistol, cock the hammer, aim & fire at the poor bastard(s) that annoy ya.

    ::evil grinz::

 If not act like you put a pistol to your head. Did that on Halloween night.. talk about bringing down the house! I wasn't sure if everyone would stop laughing! I just did it absently. It melted the tension away & eased everyone's nerves. :) Of course, it worked well cause I had a cheap prop pistol & dressed as a pirate. Was great. cause after I 'shot' myself.. my co-worker dressed as a Nun kinda 'blessed' me into the grave. ;)

Well... I trust ya there, Bess. Just hope the writers are doing good, & no so seriously stressed over this... maybe they need a trip to the Caribbean to help ease the stress. I'd say help... but may kill their minds & defeat the sequel since there are TONS of story ideas out there. Heaven forbid with some of them :: wince::

Toss them a rum for me.

Ooooh.. & ..:: goes back to look..:: eventhough a monkey was involved... at least it wasn't everybody AND their dog!

  12. :: nods:: McFarlane would be my first choice... but, agreed, they probably would use them.

But still one can only hope. I was SOOO pleased with the Sleepy Hollow figurines. The likeness of Depp as Ichabod is just amazing! To see them do PotC, with skeletal versions & normal versions of Jack & Barbossa.. would be SOOOO awesome!

As to a TV series... the more I ponder it... the more I think it would hurt PotC movies. Perhaps they should hold off until after the movies.

If an animated series... I bet they will only air it on the Disney channel. B)

    Huzzah!

    Anastazia

    B)

  13. A TV SERIES!?!?!?!!! SWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEETT!!! B)

Actually, I hope it's live action. That would be awesome.

I really think that PotC will become the next major cult. I see it everywhere, kids loving the pirates, they recognise it, anything that is close to PotC, kids & adult just immediately point it out & I see a glow on their face!

I hear ya there, Wolfy! Anything of PotC would be SOOO awesome! Ask & ye shall receive!

Now... all we need is to get a PotC Convention going. PLENTY of people telling me that thus far. Haven't had much luck will taking to someone in the legal dept of Disney concerning that. B)

Anyone think of ideas that you would like to see? We ask for the swag, perhaps it will eventually come out. B)

 wait.. if they put out a TV Series between the movies.. wouldn't that kinda defeat the joy of the movies?

:::Shakes head::: I think some of us fans should do fan films. Star Wars fans do it, plus I have heard of several people demanding them. I'm not joking all, I've had people tell me to get a convention going... fan films.. etc.

  14. Is it true?

I've heard from 2 people already that this fall there will be Jack, Will & Barbossa toys available this fall. As well as cursed gold coins/medallions.

Will there be more? Want more!

How's about we do something like that when I am in the area as well? I know those of you in the Chicagoland area can just get together whenever. But.. would be fun to hang with you all... I'll be in costume for sure when I am around the area for a re-enactment. I still have yet to figure out which places I will attending. I'll probably stay around Chicago this year. We'll see.

  16. I wish ya luck, mate.

Rather difficult at times for a pirate to have right fine attire made for you. That's as mentioned by others, that they search 2nd hand shops or the sort for something to tide over until one can have themselves a fancy outfit.

Again, I wish ya luck. Happy hunting, lad.

  17. Aye ..I think Jack and Barbossa be coming down to PIP this year. You should all try to come down ladies.. it is going to be amazing this year. Last year was amazing enough.. I can't imagine.

Aye. Hopefully they will make it down there as well. As to myself getting down there... I would like to, it's something that's on the mind, but no real plans yet. Again, depends on my re-enactment schedule & money. (ALWAYS the bloody money)

:(:( Then again, if Barbossa makes it in to town.. he'd want to burn everything!! :(

I'll keep it in mind for PiP.

I do hope you are able to get to the next showings of PotCI. Wishin' ya all luck with that, mates. :(

  18. Skibum.. do you sew? Or is someone going to sew for you?

if you want to try cheap & quick - in a manner of speaking - then I believe that Buttericks has a pirate costume. Otherwise, Buttericks & Simplicity have colonial patterns (Simplicity not being all that impressive).

You can then find any kind of material you want, depending on how much you want to spend.

It's the hats, boots/shoes, belts, etc that is the hard part.

For good patterns, plus hats Jas. Townsend & Sons is a good place to get patterns & hats from.

Plus under the Plunder topic on the Pub, there are TONS of helpful hints & links to places to get a hold of some of the hard to find items.

Kit bashing some items is ok, I did that with the waist belt of mine... took to identical belts, combined them. Made a belt with cheap belt polyester strap, a brass buckle from another kit-bashed belt, & a HUGE black velvetine & silver button.

Fabric stores that have remenant material on sale, that's a good place to go for sashes, scarfs for the head, etc.

As to boots... I bought cheap winter like boots. But if you want to go full force on boots, Caboot boots has a good variety. I'm sure there are other places out there as well. Caboot boots being on average $250 - $300+, but they have some awesome boots like Jack Sparrow & Barbossa boots.

As into an era.... Mine is a silly knock off kinda like Barbossa's... a combination of eras like late 17th, early to mid 18th c. Though, not as scattered with various worldly influences.

Are you looking for Spanish? English? French?

    Or 17th? 18th?

The good portion of what appears to be pirate is 17th & 18th. example, Treasure Island is set around 1750's, this is round about the time of the Seven Years (French & Indian) War. PotC has a huge influence from too much of both 17th & 18th c to really pin point a specific decade or part in the century. Such as like the Commadore's uniform starts off as F & I for such but later on, gets closer to pre-Am Rev War. But Swann's outfit is mostly late 17th c, a tad early 18th. Elizabeth's attire is looking rather mid 18th.

It's a tough thing to make a costume especially if you want a certain look. I wish ya luck.

But, if you are creative enough, you can pretty much find anything anywhere to make your costume. Check out anything from Wal-Mart to re-enactment events in your area, cause guaranteed there will be a sutler or 2.

Weapons.. Oooo... another touchy area. I wish ya luck there. I think a few peeps have helped ya there.

But the non-firing pistols would make for GREAT adornments to your pirate costume if you don't want to spend a HUGE amount on a firing/working pistol.

  19. ;)

NOW ya gents understand the little dilemma of how in the bloody hell to get this pistol replicated.

It does kinda look like heavy Dragoon pistol. Somewhat. Rather long for a Dragoon pistol. About the same size, be a bit long.

Kinda looks Queen Anne to me, albeit still Dragoon/cavalry (obviously into the Rev War cavarly)... with a Virginia type hammer & such. But.. this is what I have seen those far. I could talk to the saftey Officer of the NWTA & see what he says. He works for the Museums in Chicago with firearms. I have not known the man to never be able to identify a weapon yet. Let alone disarm ANY weapon out there. He's that good. Scarey.

But I also agree with ya... if you look at Sparrow's pistol being a real pistol... Barbossa's looks a tad... fragile. It amazes me how it can work when it looks a tad out of proportion. But.. it's a fine looking pistol. I'm sure it was heavy as hell.

But.. now that you gents know what it looks like - thank you SO VERY much, Hawkyns. Treasure to ya, kind sir. I have the same pic, just no way to post it).. maybe someone can make this pistol. Again, I'm not the only one who would LOVE to have this pistol.

    Huzzah!

    Forever Barbossa's,

    Anastazia

    ;)

  20. Basically follow with what Black Deacon stated. It's the distressing look of the attire that will be fun, mate.

If you want to go cheap, I did. My whole of the outfit I did myself... sewed it & all. Spend 'round $200 - $250 on it. Material, boots, hat, feathers, mad ethe belt myself, etc... everything. Had the sword already. & the pistol (but looking for a better pistol in which you can use a really cheap wall replica (non-firing) type if you don't want to spend a ton on working replicas. )

I'm sure by tomorrow morning (knocks on wood), if you click on my "name", will take you to my profile/stats.. there will be a pic of myself in my pirate captain costume. ('cause of it, my friend calls me Barbossette. )

Otherwise, scower the 2nd hand shops, eBay, etc... or maybe someone here on the board could make ya a costume.

I wish ya luck on your costume. ;)
