Ah! the boot thread in twill, don't get me involved in that mess! Now when I said I want to be a fop, I mean it! Make up and all! I want blue shoes with bows. I want sky blue silk and frilly cuffs, I want white make up, rosey cheeks and a mole! Kinda like Tim Roth in Rob Roy. Make fun of my sway, but don't turn your back on me or I'll eat yer first born kinda Fop...No offense to the men in wigs and yer right, putting on buckle shoes and a wig doesn't make the fop, it's the mole. Capt Sterling! You look more like a gentleman to me rather than a Fop.. Cheeky, the fabric is a wool blend. I say that because when the weave comes loose sometimes, it feels slippery. The brownish color is wool, but the black woven through it has to be poly or something....hmmm. Look Tim Roth!

Thank you Ms Cheeky! I found that fabric in a bargin bin for like $1.00 for 5 yrds.... Here's a closer pic I thought my kit would be done with by now, but after finding this site and reading through twill and all the learning, my clothing is long from being complete. When it is completed, I'll have to start on my second set of clothing. I want buckle shoes and a wig!! I so want to be a fop.

My boots!! I'm the one sitting down.....

Has to be really thick felt and most craft stores and fabric stores carry very thin stuff..

The subject matter would be "Nautical Folklore customs" as stated in the topic of this thread. He is asking if there are any books written about them.

I was doing a little flag research and I was curious. Were yellow flags used as a warning for quarantine or sickness in the GAoP?
-
That would explain Shrek's beer belly!!

Did you buy the ones that tie up the back?? I bought the Turner boots and the Barbossa boots from CA Boots. The Turner boots are perfect and fit well, but I had a horrible time getting my calves through the Barbossa's..I used mink oil and then stretched them at the top. They were on sale for $150 each and they were this maroon color I guess nobody wanted so I dyed them dark brown and then wore them whenever I welded or did yard work.....oh they look beat! That was like 4 years ago. I noticed the price would go up when the movies would be coming out..They are very worth the money. Now I'm on to buckle shoes.

I imagine it would be like this? My photo shop skills are horrible and I couldn't find legs to match the color of his face.

Can we see some pics of the event?? Anyone, Anyone.....Bueller, Bueller, Bueller, Bueller....

I'd have to agree! When we get gunshot victims in at the funeral home (it's what I do) there is a lot more damage when the rounds hit bone. Self inflicted through the mouth with a .45 or larger and they always look like Sloth from Goonies! I never get used to seeing that.

I like this thread!! Very nice flags out there!

I looked around some more....kinda hard to find inexpensive boots. If you're wearing them often, maybe you should invest in a better quality pair of boots?
-
Can you imagine how much history is buried in that place!! What a find.

How about a great kilt and gold sporran? I think if I was gonna wear a kilt with my pyrate garb, i'd go for this little number. The gold sporran really makes this outfit look great! What do you guys think?

you might try.. http://www.caboots.com/category/mp/

Barbossa style slops..........................
Kenneth replied to smoolie671's topic in Thieves Market
hooray for plunder!!! You know if your kit is historic in in every way, right down to the hand stitched undies, you turn into a "real life" pirate!....Not like those fake ones, but for real........ -
The guy blocking the hats IS the middle man! The only way to cut out the middle man is to block them yourself. If you're only making a few hats (less than a few dozen) it's not worth the trouble. But if you wanna make a ton of hats, go to http://www.hatsupply.com You can buy Capelines (cartwheel, body) for $10 bucks and then block and size yerself. But I warn you...it takes practice to hand block and size a hat! Felt Hats are easy to work with, plus it's fun!

Hmm. In the retail stores they are supposed to have the tip. I guess there really is no one to police the vendors? I know when I go to the swap meet, none of the airsoft guns have the orange tip..but then again, I can buy a switchblade and a blow gun and those are totally illegal in Ca.
-
What state are you in? In California, they have to sell replica firearms with the orange tip on it. This way, the seller is not liable for you brandishing it and law enforcement can easily identify the replica as just that...a replica. What you do with it when you get it home is your own business and in California there is no law stating you have to leave the orange on it.. Recently, California has had a lot of kids shot by the police because of them being unable to identify the piece as a toy or a real weapon. Here in Cali, there are really no laws regarding Antique firearms and reproductions "antique" firearms manufactured past 1898. Ive read through the California firearm laws a few times before regarding this, but it doesn't really cover Antiques in detail and there are a ton of loopholes. I just treat my pistols (don't have any long guns yet) as if they were a modern pistol just to be on the safe side. As far as firing them, I can't here in my city because of the local city laws, of course I can drive 5 miles down the road and fire them all I want in the county. What I've always wanted to know was, what are the laws in California regarding Cannons?

All that work in designing.......only to paint it on? No way!! Stitch it together and you'll be more pleased with it! That will be an awsome flag...

True true!! I just thought it was a little funny that this Tall ship has a "Titanic" smoke stack! This fishing trawler turned tall ship has steel everything so I'm sure it'll be fine when it runs a ground. If I was pouring two million dollars into turning a fishing boat into a square-rigger, I would at least try and conceal the stack for authenticity?
