the PMC is nice but practice with it for sizing of pir=eces before going all out with it on an important project. i have a book that i picked up at a clay conference and will post the title asap.

fer meself i would like to get back into cutting stone and castings.....thinking about taking a jewelry class again.

on starting a business, do as you can and search out what people will purchase.....no matter how much you like your work if the public will not buy it there is no point.

  3. aye,

i'll sign the articles here, as I sit and sip a cuppa breakfast tea and rock the wee lad asleep.

i apprenticed to a silver smith many years ago and have set stone and made chains. I have a fossilized ammonite that I am working on designing a setting for, since the back is fire opal and displays lovely fire. Far too pretty to cover in a solid setting.

I have been designing jewerlly much longer then I have done pottery and it is probably my first love. Tims and cost have prohibited me setting up a full studio for that as well.

Anyways back to the desinging of this particular piece. The fossle is about 2 inches, roughly diameter and as i mentioned has lovely opal fire in the back as well as the impint of the beastie's shell. the front is cut flat and highly polished. I am thinking a loosly formed "net" to capture and hold the piece to a chain.

ideas would be welcome to be chatted upon.

  4. "what if jesus came back like that" kris kritoferson (sp) makes me ponder how a sciety can become so matrialistc as to not give a damn to people dying in front front of them. especally at o holiday time that boasts good will towards men and peace

  5. if this has been discoursed on before i apologize now. however i am still trying to tie togeter points of navigation and cartography. and since I canae find a topic on it, figured to start one.

I have been seeking reproduction charts that would be PC and without a care of which nation produced them. It is rather hard to search for somethign when you are not sure where to start. Obvisouly charts and maps have been around for along time and used for navigation. How good they were was another story and that is what interests me the most. How were the charts produced? was it taking a little bit of information and conjecture from there, or did they send survey ships out first and hope they come back?

anyway i will keep searching out information to share as I find it, and hope that anyone with information will share it as well
