  1. I want him in front of me! Capt. William
  2. Nice garb, Patrick. But then, I already told you that, on the Muzzleloading Forum! Capt. William
  3. As I understand it, the old saker / culverin / demiculverin etc. classification goes back to the 1500's and was eventually replaced by the more-modern "pounder" arrangement: six-punder, 12-pounder, etc. I'm going to check ROUND SHOT AND RAMMERS to see if I can find anything about velocities, relative powder charge to shot weight, etc. Capt. William
  4. Great flags, mates! All of which reminds me that I need to follow up on the flag info Red Wake gave me a while back. :) Capt. William
  5. Sounds like a fun place, Billy, maybe we'll make it our next vacation destination, once we can afford to take a vacation! Capt. William
  6. You mates make some great gear, fer sure! :) Capt. William
  7. I waste a law degree doing labor and employee relations work and administrative hearings for the Department of the Navy. Capt. William
  8. Rainy and dreary here in New Orleans. Capt. William
  9. A great site you have there, Pirate King! :) Capt. William
  10. Count me in, Sjorovaren! :) I've been thinking about formulating a ship's surgeon persona. I currently have nothing in the way of equipment, though. My mate Jan is interested in period household medicines. Capt. William
  11. Very nice. Patrick. Are you interested in making one for sale? Capt. William
  12. I'll take one, Foxe. And could you run a pic of the bigger ones? Capt. William
  13. Actually I like Rats' idea better! Thank ye, Rats, and I'll be waitin' to hear from Mister March. Capt. William
  14. Aye GOF: take that much-needed break. But don't give up forever! Me, I come and go: have been inactive on this list for a few months, but am getting back into it. Like many of us, I just have TOO DAMN MUCH STUFF going on at the same time : my wife and stepdaughter, our dog and three cats, each of our jobs, our house, and now we've bought a second one and plan to keep the first: Baratarians, GAOP, Confederate privateers, cowboy action shooting, modern pistols, the gym, church: it's just overwhelming at times, and I feel bad because I'm so spread out that it's not a case of one thing being done wrong but me taking consolation that I'm doing something else right; instead it's that everything's being done wrong. Well mate, there's only one solution for that kind of foolishness: you've just got to do less. Now I have to figure out which of these activities I love that I'm going to cut back on! Capt. William
  15. Aye, Pew - love yer signature! We're home ported in New Orleans; are just in th' recruitin' stage. We do have a brace o' comely wenches from Mobile Bay! We are also (not just recruitin' here, but doing it every year ) the Baratarian cannon crew at the annual Battle of New Orleans reenactment. And where are YE homeported, shipmate? Capt. William
  16. I surely hope you've marked PyrateCon on yer calendars, shipmates: remember, it's April 20, 21, and 22, in the Great Pirate City of New Orleans! Capt. William
  17. Aye Steven, we did our part for our adopted country! Bosun Carmina and the Sea Wolf were there Friday night and all day Saturday. The Pyrate Queen and I were there both days, and camped out, and I concur with yer weather report: we certainly had the weather gods on our side! :) Capt. William
  18. Aye, and they mentioned the Baratarians! I wish they'd shown us rather than the USS Carolina crew in the cannon firing demo photo, though. Bosun Carmina, we will see you and Cathy on January 6 for the final practice before the battle! Capt. William
  19. Aye, mates, Pyrate Con in April is not the only piratical event coming up in New Orleans. January 12 and 13 marks the reenactment of the Battle of New Orleans. Yer historicalpyratical brethren the Baratarians really won that battle for America, and their present-day descendants will be there again this year, and look to be one of the best-represented American groups in attendance! Please come out and see us! Cannon and musket firing, cooking demos and lectures and much more! Capt. William
  20. Glad to see that so many pirates plan to sail to my homeport in April! :) Bosun Carmina and Puck Pirate are working hard to promote this event. The Baratarians will be in attendance! Of course, we have to beat those British invaders first! Capt. William
  21. Aye, Moses Law for this bottom dweller! Raping an 83 year old woman...Gawd, let's throw in keelhauling, tricing, and running the gauntlet for this sorry excuse for a man! Capt. William
  22. And it's survived many a hurricane, including Katrina. Other than hurricanes coming through, it never closes. They've hired a gawd-awfully bad piano player, though! Capt. William
  23. Are you sure that these laws do not make an exception for black powder weapons? Also, when I lived in PA I remember that a "firearm" - regardless of how they might have incorporated the action type into the definition - was applicable only to handguns with barrels less than 12 inches, rifles with barrels less than 15 inches, or shotguns with barrels less than 24 inches. Many flintlock pieces wouldn't qualify as "firearms" just on the basis of barrel length. :) Capt. William
  24. I do indeed remember them, Red Maria. Now I MUST see it! :) Capt. William
  25. I understand that the International Pirate Society is sending in a shipload of mates. In any case, the Baratarians will be there: "there" being the Elmwood Cinema in Metairie on Saturday at 3:15. Those mates who've gotten a bit too much sun and sea spray during the showing are then embarking on a pub crawl in the French Quarter! Capt. William
