  1. I got it too and yes it might be causing trouble with my computer but with my computer, it's hard to tell! Capt. William
  2. That's the best thought on this topic that I've ever heard! Capt. William
  3. Aye, not two words that one would normally expect to find linked! But then, we'd be in error if we automatically dismissed something as unauthentic, just because it WAS Disney. :) Capt. William
  4. Hey, this book (which I never read, and don't intend to) must be worth something: if only for the great discussion it's caused on this list! Capt. William
  5. No one wants to be a New Orleans Pirate? Why not? Capt. William
  6. A truly beautiful piece. A work of art! :) Capt. William
  7. A very curious thing indeed! There's probably not a particular significance to it: it's probably just used to draw attention. Did you check to see if Ripley's Museum has an Internet site? Capt. William
  8. Wish I could take you up on the offer, Costie! :) Capt. William
  9. I'm guessing you are in the SCA... but if you are going earlier period, you won't look much like what we now think of as a Pyrate.... Elizabeathain Sea Dogs are kinda fun, but no one knows what the clothing is.... A thrum cap is period, but you get a lot of comments about having a "bad hair day"..... Aye, Asmiv, Mate Patrick there looks VERY Elizabethan seaman. :) Capt. William (once the Meridies' Nautical Guild Patron)
  10. Yes, we need to see pics of the little pirates! Capt. William
  11. Happy Birthday, Gorgeous! Capt. William
  12. I always like for people to see real, or pictures of real, cutlasses: shows 'em they were not really the wickedly curved scimitars Hollywood would have us believe. Capt. William
  13. I have a 1/4 scale CW piece on a naval carriage from Jefferson Armory that looks very nice. I need to drill out the vent hole to make it fireable. I'm not in any overwhelming hurry to do so as I use it just as a conversation piece to show to tourists: often at events where they're firing full scale cannon. My big disappointment with it was the flimsiness of the box it came in. Capt. William
  14. I'm sure Beachem's holster is practical. Never seen any historical evidence for such a holster, though. It's more like a modern slide holster. Capt. William
  15. We saw the collection of artifacts a few years ago: very impressive! Haven't been able to make to make it back to Beaufort since, though.. it's a nice town with much to see. We loved the old cemetery! Capt. William
  16. Aye, these mates do speak true of me! (Ah, what a lovely image in me mind's eye...!) Capt. William
  17. Yer right, I don't notice a great deal of resemblance! Capt. William
  18. Is he the one with the mutton chop side whiskers, Carmina? The one I'd look like if I trimmed my beard down to same? Capt. William
  19. You made the right choice, Pearl. Much as we'd love to have you at PyrateCon, a true pirate is loyal to his own crew. :) Capt. William
  20. That is most interesting, Blackjohn! I wonder if we could organize a Jacobite pirate crew to place the Duke on the throne? Capt. William
  21. All the talk about "treasure chests" begs the assumption that pirates ever buried their treasure. There is little evidence in the historical record that they did. Also, what kind of sense would it make to do so? "A short life and a merry one shall be my motto." These mates stole, divvied the loot, hit port, blew it - and did it all over again. If you bury treasure: what's the point? You can't blow it. You can't invest it wisely. It's of no use to you until you come back and dig it up; by which point your "shipmates" may have beat you to the punch. I don't mean to throw cold water on a fun wood-working project, though... Capt. William
  22. Pyrate Queen Jan, Dudley, Dave Smith, Bosun Carmina and the Sea Wolf (both homeported in nearby Mobile, and they are also organizers for the event), from the local pirates: and me, too! :) Capt. William
  23. Absolutely beautiful! Mid-50's to mid-70's, clear and sunny. What a wonderful Mardi Gras it was! :) Capt. William
  24. Maybe we could make spammers open up their own junk, on their own computers! Hoist 'em on their own petard, sez I! Capt. William
