  1. Pumpkin bread and spiced tea is set out for Hallows eve!
  2. Tylenol and a seltzer for Syren... Sterling those shoes are hideous lol Miss Ashcombe swishes in with a tray of fine spirits to celebrate modship on the Watch Dog. Finding the members by the fire in raucous conversation. She wears a wide grin and takes a place at the hearth.
  3. Cat grasped th tiller, one side o' her mouth twitchin into a lopsided grin at his eyebrow wigglin..she watched as Nate strode forward an challenged Tomas an company. Cat an Nate'd only jes enjoyed a samplin o' th' very same stores not a few hours past. As he offered t' go b'low deck with 'em wot disparraged th' cargo, she placed a hand t' th' but o'th' pistol at her waist. Never likin t' see one go down under th' deck outnumbered. Even tho he be th' only one armed. She would have cast a silent glance t' Roberts t' follow em b'low, but he were still avoidin her direct attention. Cat huffed a little, shifted her feet an ran a thumb along th spot on th' tiller worn smooth from many a hand.
  4. I was invited to a TEA party but had to work that day. I think this is the right tack. Simply disagreeing to coworkers and such does nothing. Voting...well I have my opinion on the fairness of election methods etc. I believe people must stand up in numbers and demand to be heard (In a sane manner of course) you sometimes must make enough noise that you simply cannot be ignored. People are too complacent in some ways and too stretched for time in others. But when things get the way they have in this country...it's time to take the bull by the horns. Not just heave a sigh and tighten the old belt ...again. While the Gov't hands money to banks and car makers with no accountability attached, ignores the borders and doesn't have any game plan excpet Government by crisis. This country's MO for way too long. Consider the First and then the second trade center attacks..the USS Cole, New Orleans, the fact that all but 1 oil platform was wiped out by Katrina..the fact that in the event of an Anthrax attack that only a few cases can truly be contained..yeah, they don't tell you those things do they? Don't ge me started on going hat in hand begging money from other countries....etc Im a Patriot in all ways..but I feel I've lost my country to dogs.. Time to stand up and be counted. I'm in.
  5. Ahem......Miss Ashcombe produces a hot dish of Partridge. "Where would you like your shots sir?"

Wot ye think about our next step..an wot say ye as darkness approaches?" She looked over th' "crew" agin..."Has we enough in store t' ply them into cooperatin?"

  19. well put, what scared me is the idea of an underpaid russkie with no sure future given the economy and govt there now, and maybe a little too much Vodka (is there such a thing?) being the button man simply because he's on shift. No offens to Russians btw.. Lots of things in the world scare me. Chernobyl scared me. That mess of plastic in the middle of the Pacific, ice storms, and the trade defecit to name a few. But hey...gotta live.
  20. As for me, I love Colonial, grew up with wonderfully constructed cherry and maple furniture that is still in great shape today. My Mom showed me where each pc is signed by the craftsman. Despite 2 parents, 3 kids, 3 dogs and 11 moves it's still going strong. I also like French Country and art deco. I crave a deco dressing table, A French Country kitchen with natural stone and a few delft tiles mixed in behind the stove and beautiful wide plank hardwood floors in a Colonial living and dining room. and a Four poster bed sigh... I love look of pale yellow walls and wide white moulding, a french blue sofa and colonial wing chairs and cherry coffee table with queen anne style legs by the hearth. With a few Federal style painted accent pcs. In the Revolution series, Washington has the most awesome red and yellow brocade drapes with small tassels...sigh I could go on and on.
  21. Ransom, Have you ever watched "A Year in Provence" It is one of my favorite movies (actually a set of 4 discs) which goes thru the seasons of one year as a couple from England's business world retire and buy an old (and gorgeous) farmhouse in disrepair in the equally gorgeous French countryside. Aside from all the laughs you get, you should really appreciate what they go thru trying to adjust to a new country, people, language..and living in a work in progress. It's a charmer and knowing you, if you haven't seen it, you'll love it. I've read the book as well. But the movie is so well cast. Cheers to adventure! It's all in how yu take it...with a glass or two of wine helps
  22. Jib, In all seriousness what you are lacking in, aside from cashflow like most of us, is information to help you make your decision. Boss 1 sounds like a rat bastard. Though many people hope for o/t, I have a job that as well requires what they politely call "mandatory hold over" yeah... I think a frank discussion with boss # 2, might be a good idea. Make an apppt to speak to boss #2, don't just do it in passing. This will show you are serious and need to be taken as such. Explain that despite the situation at job 1 you have taken pains to remain available for job 2 and see if there is any possibility to get more time there. Tell him youd break commitment #1 for it. He will respeect you both for taking time out to discuss this and for the honesty and the offer to choose job 2 over job 1. Whether he can or can't help you, will at least help you make a decision. If he can't, then more time at job 1 may need to replace job 2. It seems the rat bastard needs you...and walking off would leave his pockets in a lurch. If they have to force people into o/t, they need you. Never underestimate your worth as a worker being power to bargain. Explain your need to leave job 2 and your understanding there is a heavy need for o/t. See if higher pay dif is possible in exchange for an agreement to work x amount of o/t each month. Or if a guarantee of enough o/t is possible to cover you leaving job 2. If whatever isn't ageed upon is not honored, then you know you stand to always be F*&^'d by your employer and start looking for another job. Just don't leave till you have one. Ive worked 2 jobs 7 days a week in the past, I know how hard that is. Here's hoping the best for you Jib.
  23. I have said prayers for your family member and all whose life they touch. God give strength and help to those in need of it most.
