I've been thinking reciently, how do you keep all the information that you're learning about the GAoP straight in your head? I have a notoriously terrible memory. I can remember vague ideas, but never names, dates & places, forget details like book titles and actual quotes. Naturally that is what history is all about! I desperately want to be able to remember the facts so that when someone asks a question I can be of some help. My current, "I think I read about that once, in a book with a red cover, written by some guy with a beard" is less than helpful! So how do those that have been doing this a lot longer remember everything? I'm sorely tempted to invest in a big notebook and just start writing everything down.

Seriously Kass, it all looks great. I especially love that you give the reference image along with the modern photograph. That really reintegrates the "history" portion to visitors.

Jane squeeze past Jacky & Ransom, careful to avoid the little bit of holiday decoration. She heads straight for the "X" in the floor, placing both feet on the mark while her green eyes search the dust beneath her. She turns, first left, then right, then in a complete circle, stopping as a bright gin fills her face. "Wot? Ye all so gallied ye kent see it?" Jane's arms swing out, gesturing over the floor excitedly. She drops to her knees, filthy hands tracing the seemingly random cut in the floorboards. "These 'ere are tha points wot Eye's read. See, X0 n' Y5.625" Thin arms trace two lines in the dust until the connect at a point along the curved line. The others are gaining interest, leaning over Jane's shoulder as she continues to explain "but see, tis only part o tha graf. Dis keeps goin, all tha way round! N tha "X" is in tha middle. Jest gott ta find tha rose?" She looks up at the gathering of pirates around her with an expectant look as the realization of what they're standing on slowly begins to sink in.

I haven't gotten to go anyplace interesting in pirate clothes yet, aside from Halloween & pirate fest which don't count. However, I had a very interesting stop at Walmart late one night, early one morning, after a Great Gatsby party in full Daisy Buchanan splendor. My favorite was the double take by the old man who probably thought I was a ghost from his past.

Jane steps back from staring down into the darkness. Her foot lands in a puddle, soaking her worn shoes. She bends down, tasting the strange liquid. It's an odd mix of rum, ale and soapy water. Blond head tips back, squinting to the floor of the tavern above them. "Drink!" She exclaims grabbing Ransoms arm excitedly. "Mr. Tar, when ye tossed tha thing tha cookie wot'd it do? But then it didna want tha Red Cats cookies. Is not tha cookie, is tha drink! Think o ow much seeps down from tha pub. But it can't drink it wif out somthin ta soak it up. If we could get tha spider drunk, maybe?"

I've seen Captain Blackfoot on the seas but not in the pub recently. Tis that time o year though. Come Jan, everyone'll be finding their way back wif stories o their plunder I'm sure.

Well, being a river pirate I've just got an old canoe. She spent most of the summer "dressed up" like a pirate ship for the kids to play on. I usually take her out on the nearby creek to avoid the yahoos on their toys that fill the river. I'm also have the pleasure of storing my brother's little sunfish but I've never taken her out.

"Afor tha writtin came off Eyes said somethin bout a graph wif tha X's and Y's in tha jumble o numbers. Wot if?" Jane's brow furrows in concentration. Her hands start feeling the grime covered floor around them. She rubs at the "X" finding it carved deeply into the wood. Surrounding it she can feel shallower lines running in two different directions. "Mother of saints!" Jane exclaims, nearly pushing Ransom over as she continues to crawl on the floor, following the intersecting lines.

The cat rolling a golf ball across the wood floor & the hum of the furnace. I'd better put on some music before the quiet lulls me to sleep.
