As to garters, I have both leather straps and silk ribbon. Or at least I have the leather pair floating around the house some where... and aye was fashionable to wear the stockings up over the knees of your breeches....that is how I wear mine... -

As I read the website, the socks are fitted but not handmade: My socks are machine-knit to fit your foot and leg with measurements that you provide. I like the Liberty Caps too! If I recall correctly, we do not need to have hand made stockings as in hand knitted...I think by GAoP knitting machines were in use...there is in Twill a thread discussing this... -

This one certainly warrants more investigation... -

Well ran across Burnley and Trowbridge's site and the "clocked" silk stockings a lot of the vendors have been carrying don't seem to show up until well after the GAoP... http://www.burnleyandtrowbridge.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=257 such a shame, they were well made.... -

April 9th, 10th, & 11th 2010 | 6th Annual Fells Point Privateer Da
Capt. Sterling replied to 1stMate Matt's topic in April
Hawkyns, You may want to contact Duncan McGuyver here at the pub http://pyracy.com/index.php?showuser=1154 He may be able to help out with some information, as he takes care of the living history camp. Oi Matt, I do have one question, other than the dinner, what else are the 12 accountable for? I ask as I have already committed, long before the final results of the contest, to the Living History camp for all day Saturday. -
A very happy birthday to you.

Hey she's either dedicated to her hobby or not...

Yeah I think email would be the best, gives them time to get the answer to you and chances if you call you might not even get the right person to talk with.... I know the V&A is very helpful with email questions. I usually speak to people at Williamsburg face to face.
-
Sorry can't hear you...too busy running around naked...
-
Happy belated birthday as well!

Jumps weren't always boned and certainly when boned, the existing examples that I have read about were only lightly boned...supposedly these garments were to be worn at home not in public where proper stays were expected. The ones you are making a copy of are in the other thread, read their description, if boning is even mentioned, your next best thing would be to contact Williamsburg, where the original is currently housed and ask exactly where the boning lies, if there is any...they are usually very good about helping..

Popping in quickly before the next storm comes through and offs the power for another three days... Thanks for all the kind thoughts and well wishes... and no..I celebrated my birthday...not a naturalist in any sense, shape or form of the word... Well back to experimental archeology for the rest of the week... thank God for fireplaces and snotties who know the routine...almost had to slap the Far Better Half...went into panic mode...so much for growing up in the city....sniggering... Tell Bess to keep her prune tart to herself, sounds absolutely revolting. Dogge... didn't have to call Mamma... she and dad closed on Friday and are now settled safe and sound right here in VA. Dad is just waiting on the moving truck so he can break out all the leather tools and mom is just waiting for the capote material to start cutting... best birthday present ever!

Hope ye have a grand day of it...and many, many more.

Metaphysically speaking... Proverbs 15:5 applies to any aspect in life whether coming from one's father or them that have spent the time learning a subject. FWIW take what folks offer no matter what tone it may be delivered with... if their attitude is wrong, truly that is their problem, the knowledge they pass on is, hopefully, still accurate, attitude or not. Still it behooves each of us to check it out for ourselves when we have the time to do so I must agree that books, especially any boasting primary sources, is the best place to start.
