  1. not to fret... no one will go off on you... honestly, I don't know if stealing a box of cigars falls into the same category as "I stole this wonderfully smart clothing off of a dead pyrate!" Aye Greg, you maybe right there... maybe that IS where Pete gets his boots dream... I mean theories from!
  2. Unless you like that fantasy look, I certainly wouldn't purchase it....
  3. The main thing the good man protects me from is setting my wig or nose on fire when lighting cigars or my pipe! Like I said judging distance can be a real b***h!
  4. He is intense! And when he slips into his character, he's hard to budge out of it.... Since he acts as the captain's "bodyguard/blindside protector" he has a tendency to be "always on his guard" keeping an eye out for those that approach the captain or helping the captain when necessary. You see, being blind in one eye, causes one to lose their depth preception, judging actual distances can be a real nightmare, and although I do well enough, Mr. March is always a welcome addition when getting through the day
  5. Sorry folks, haven't forgotten you, just getting through a bad bout of something... I promise to get back to this thread as soon as I am able...
  6. Unfortunately I can't get the pic to load, but Leloir is known to have pictures of gentlemen partaking in the practice of snuff... VERY popular during the GAoP.... odds are I already have a copy of the illustration and if the gent is wearing a cloak and carrying a muff, he's taking snuff not smoking. Certainly no cigarettes yet and so far only evidence that shows the Spanish had cigars other than certain tribes of Indians. There is another thread discussing cigars, which did not seem to make their way to England or the colonies until later in the 18th century... although if any one has other info showing the contrary please share...
  7. You might want to bring a sun lamp too. Ah, we'll just pretend we're in Ireland!
  8. No, young Mistress March is our "Naturalist" as she is into collecting all sorts of things both flaura and fauna.
  9. There were quizzing lenses already as well... http://www.eyeglasseswarehouse.com/quizzing.html supposedly the first two are late 17th century Here's some brief info http://www.college-optometrists.org/index....cles.seventeen/
  10. "Thank you, but I have given the choice up to Aurore. Whom ever she wishes to attend to the meeting will be whom I accept as well," Sterling said. "I would be honoured with either of you gentlemen," he paused for a moment, wondering if, knowing Christophe's feelings regard Aurore, if he would be a fair judge of what words passed. Still he had offered Aurore the choice and he would live by her decision. "I would be grateful if you would ask her and abide by her request as I have said I would."
  11. Sterling looked at his host. "Carriage? Oh my word, Mistress McKinney, the actress, is down below. She wishes to have a word with me. I was just waiting for Mistress Devareaux to chose someone to sit with me as Mistress McKinney and I spoke. Your sister seemed a tad uncomfortable with the entire event."
  12. Sterling looked to the man at his side, understanding slowly taking hold and then he smiled as well... until a certain chill over took him as he looked at the item in his grasp. He watched his fingers as he traced along the hem, then looked again at Sabastain. "Forgive my askin, but were ye to give this to Mistress Shea?" he asked.
  13. Sterling looked at the fine piece of silk. He leaned forward slightly and took it when it was offered. Yet, for the life of him, he did not know what to make of it. ''A, beggin yer pardon, Monsieur Devareaux, but ye could be helping me out here a bit further. What might I be doing with this grand scarf?"
  14. Sterling sat up in the bed, trying to find a comfortable position, before he resumed turning the glass in his hand. For a moment, he felt like a young lad again, courting for the very first time. And yet, as he glanced across at Aurore's brother, knowing all too well his keeping of her, he felt somewhat intimadated as well. He peered downward into the claret coloured depths. "Mayhaps what I have to say will sound foolish to ye, but in the short period of time that we have all been thrust together I have come to grow very fond of yer sister. I cannot explain the feelings I pocess for her, but they are real and honestly, I would not wish to change them. She has already shown herself quite special.... Perchance it is my illness or now the injury, but I have learned all too well that one's life can change in a blink of an eye. It is far too precious... and far too short," He looked at Sabastian. "We both know well enough that Morgan intends to sail against Portebello as soon as he can and until that time I wish to spend every moment I can with Aurore.... but I wish to make it proper as I care that much for her. If she will have me."
  15. Sterling gave a nod as filled glass was given over to his keeping. A toast could have been called for and yet his mind lingered over the other's words..." One could say as much." It troubled him to think that matters had not been concluded as he would have like personally. He looked at Sabastain, took a sip of his drink then spoke again. "Can yer people keep Aurore safe? I am in poor condition to look to her myself at the moment, although I would die trying to protect her. I must state that, although I do not wish Killingsworth's blood upon yer hands, I am saddened to hear he yet lives. "
  16. Sterling watched as his host sat heavily in the chair. He could only guess at how exhausted the man must be after all that had occured recently. He knew only too well how dear the loss of a loved one could be felt. "I thank ye then for yer kind hospitality. I confess it would be hard to leave this place at the given moment, for more reasons than just an injury." He fell quiet for a moment as he contemplated what Sabastain had said, he felt a mixture of relief and alarm at the brother's words. "Is he dead then? Killingsworth?"
  17. "Aye that I have," Sterling said. "God is good, He has provided me with the very best of people to help me in my time of need. I am truly thankful to you and yours, Sir. But it distresses me greatly that I cannot reckon on a reason as to why Killingsworth has this family in his sights. And if, I am to blame, I not only apologize for placing you in danger but say the word and I will take my leave and go elsewhere." His gaze traveled as he spoke to rest on Aurore. Once there, it fixed itself. "There are those here that have grown to have a place in my heart and I would not wish to see them suffer because of me."
  18. The two looked across the expanse of Aurore's bedroom as door was opened without word of invitation. Sterling looked to the appearance of his host and gave a welcoming nod of his head. Then he looked to Aurore.
  19. Sterling watched her, if he could he would send the actress away to discuss maters at another time. Surely the shock of coming home and finding Lilly already in Aurore's home and bedroom, was enough to be upsetting to the young woman. "I am sorry Chere. I had no idea that Mistress McKinney would make her way here. Although in all honesty, it does not suprise me. I believe her to be concerned as well, regarding my injury, so please try to understand why she has come. And," he sighed slightly. "I think after yer first meeting with Mistress McKinney, you know she is not one to take the word "no" easily. As to another person being present, aye I concure that, that would be a wonderful idea, and in hopes to ease yer mind a bit, I shall let ye chose whom ye would wish to chaperone."
  20. With just a few words, rolled up into a single token, all seemed to settle into place. Sterling breathed, the first breath in several days that finally seemed to speak that things would soon turn to right in his life... And yet he was concerned about the woman downstairs. He did not know what to tell her, for he did not wish to cause her any hurt... and yet she had played him most fouly for years... and now with a son. To say he was uncertain as how to proceed was an understatement. He looked up at Aurore. "I need speak with Mistress McKinney Chere. Will ye trust me alone with her?"
