  1. "Tis well done, little mistress. Ye have a good hand, very pretty indeed," Sterling commented as he reread the page Meagan had penned for him. "Load the quill again and be so kind as to hold the page steady," he paused. "No, I need sign in front of Monsieur." He relaxed again, handing over the pen to the young girl. "Thank ye lass, tis a burden lifted, yer help has been." He tried to shift, his teeth clenched at the awkward attempt. "What the bloody hell is taking...." he stopped himself and bit his lower lip as he looked at Meagan. "Forgive me," he said. "No way for me to speak in front of such a fine lady as yerself. Would ye ask Mistress Devareaux to come above for a moment? I fear I shall go out of my mind waiting any longer alone," he added, making himself to smile for the girl's benefit.
  2. Sterling watched Meagan as she hurried down the hall. For a moment, he felt the sharpest twinge of pain prick his heart. He could only image his Sarah and wondered, after all the time of leaving her alone in England, if she would be so happy to come to her own father’s aide when needed or would she resent him even trying to be a part of her life…. Especially now that the Empress had come to the end of her wits concerning him. And now a son. The first thought to cross his mind was an unpleasant one. How long would this child survive until he died long before his time? Would he even have the chance to see this one grow…. If indeed he did? He knew Lilly would not be pleased with his decision and yet to him it did not make the least bit of sense that she would be upset. Did he not twice propose to her already? He watched as the young girl hurried back to join him. Taking her place at the table, she laid out her tools and looked to Sterling for instructions. “In English if ye please… and we shall ask Monsieur Devareaux to witness it when we are done.”
  3. Ah where was I? Oh yes, with this scary...oops... grand chap.... Rats. . Well to his credit, Rats has come from a rough background, a scoundrel, killer, and nary do well sort...hmmm he sounds like a pyrate! and his clothing, the rough and tumble kind, did well for his less than humble beginnings... although buckled shoes without buckles?!?! Produced a ...ahem ... walk far from an attractive swagger... how does the lad expect to charm all those lovely lasses?? In the above photo Rats, sans shoe buckles, has been blessed with the addition of Cap'n Pete Straw's coat... My compliments to Cap'n Pete for providing our dear Rats with at least one vestige of decency at least for the photo! Well Rats has been offered the position of surgeon aboard The Archangel... and after "Stealing" a new suit from the elderly Dr. Easterly, our good doctor has now cleaned up quite well! I am happy to present to ye all Doctor Jacob Reiley.... Aye the fellow needs a proper wig, but look, he's already attracted the most delightful lass at the fair! All kidding aside, Rats' new coat was entirely prick stitched by Rats himself.... which included sewing the lining to the coat, which can be a time consumming task. He did a brilliant job and deserves to look so dapper! By RF2, Rats will have his kit complete, including the "aged and bloodied" look of a surgeon in action. Stay tuned... In the meantime, our next make over will be the Captain's Daughter... Mistress Sarah Sterling.
  4. Sterling's eyes widened a bit. "English and French... well done lass, well done indeed. Ye should be proud," he said with a grin. "Good then. Would ye be so kind as to fetch ink, pen and paper... I need to add something to my will and I fear with my arm as it tis, I cannot control the paper as well as I would wish. "
  5. It would be all too easy, Sterling thought, to fall asleep and let the injury be blamed for any inability to act in a decision making capacity. Frankly he was so tired of being confined and yet, this time he had to admit, the injury was more than a tad uncomfortable. He almost relished Reiley's torturous walk earlier on. Just laying still, without Aurore to read to him, was a far worse fate than the ball that had been dug out from under his arm. He wanted to sigh his frustrations but the broken ribs would only cause him further unnecessary agony. Instead he decided to lay still, his nightshirt already soaked with perspiration, and clinging mercilessly to him. He winced slightly as he tried to find some way to look authoritative in, of all places, bed. The one place Lilly McKinney held supreme control! As to every other aspect of their relationship.... would their timing always be so off?? Why could she not wait until he was feeling better? The very next morning? He had no idea of what to expect.... He took a gamble, exhaled heavily, began to cough, and groaned for his efforts. "Are you all right, sir?" he heard Meagan whisper from the hall. "Aye lass, this too shall pass," Sterling muttered. He looked at the girl as she hovered nervously in the doorway. "Can I get you anything?" she asked. "Mistress McKinney and ... who ever... yer Mistress ..." he closed his eyes and allowed himself to relax into the comfort of the bed. "Never mind... a drink perhaps, something strong...And... can ye write lass?"
  6. Rats my boy, I would LOVE to attend this event, the only reason I did not make this one was that I was already committed to one that I actually have a major hand in organizing up in Long Island, NY... when you have roughly a gang of 40 or more to entertain and reach 150,000 people in one weekend, I could not say no, especially since the ones we are there for are kids mainly. Next year the event is going to be Pirates, no more Wild west, (we've been doing that for 13 years and tis getting a bit "weary")man is my arm tired for lassoing outlaws! Hopefully the weekends will be different as the Lewes event sounded like a lot of fun. I am truly sorry I missed it.
  7. Ah Doctor, ever the gentleman what? To be namin yer ship after Cheeky!!!
  8. Yes indeed Kudos to Kass for certain... she is always soooo helpful with suggestions for yer kit!!! Me and my crewe can hardly thank her enough... As for me helping you find braid, I can try my best, if not I'll ask Kass...
  9. Oi and since when was I "engaged" to Tess St. Claire.... now if that was my father's idea, perhaps... but otherwise, I think I would know that.....
  10. Sterling made his way back to the bedroom, hurting both phyiscally and mentally regarding the talk that was about to take place. He was not looking forward to it and did not know how to handle it well at all. For a moment he wished Cate was here to guide him, and yet, he sighed and realized she would be the next person he needed to deal with, a letter would have to suffice for now...My God, would his life always be so complicated and his time so short and filled with so many tasks that needed tending to? He climbed back beneath the covers and wished he could remove the sling and chuck it across the room. Being shot was the last thing he needed now. He fell back amongst the pillows and sat up sharply, the pain shooting through his form... the second time around, he eased himself gently onto his side and felt the silk scarf under his hand as he tried to relax. He pulled it out from under him and looked the fine piece of fabric over. How easy it would be just to leave this on Aurore's pillow. Could life truly be that simple? With a sigh, he folded the item as best he could with one hand and then tucked it under his pillow. Perhaps soon he could work up the nerve to offer it to her.... For now, he could only wait until Aurore made up her mind and Reiley escorted both people up to the bed chamber. He hoped his mind was clear enough to make the proper decisions.....
  11. Let's see, London broil, baked potato, corn on the cob, salad, broccoli, garlic bread, gravy, champagne and I didn't have to lift a finger...ah tis good to be back with friends and family who love me... of course my breeches won't fit tomorrow....**sigh** :)
  12. Are you ladies going to read or just make witty comments? ... now...just to find a copy of the second book... and the time...
  13. Am I missing something... when??? Shite if tis this weekend (9/16-17), I'm in Long Island and I've only brought Wild West kit.... bugger!
  14. Sterling gave a gently prod to young Davis's shoulder, pushing the lad into the room. He tried not to smile as the boy lurched forward before stopping and smiling sheepishly at the doctor. "Found him outside my keyhole," Sterling said covering his grin with a stern frown as he turned his gaze upon Reiley. "Ask what ye will Doctor. Ye have no need to be spyin on me." The captain grimaced slightly as he adjusted his left arm, the makeshift sling all too uncomfortable. "Now if ye be excusin me, I think I needs be heading back to my bunk," he added, swaying somewhat as he turned. "When ye the chance, Doctor, will ye be so kind as to ask Mistress Devareaux to send up her choice and Mistress McKinney.... and something fer my head...tis pounding."
  15. My condolences Ransom... so sorry to hear about your friend...
