  1. Wait and you want to come here and play... how bout we switch things around a bit?
  2. Woo hoo... congratulations... almost as pretty as my small sword... Nice to have the real deal isn't it...and this hanger is a beauty...
  3. According to Tobacco Coast, Virgina established an Admiralty Court system back around 1660, then promptly forgot they had done so. According to this book only one ship was condemned in VA during the 17th century and because they were so uncertain as to what procedures to follow, constantly writing back and forth to England for instructions, Queen Anne actually forfeited her share on several occasions just to make up for all the confusion.
  4. Tis the red one that should raise the hairs on the back of anyone's neck... simple but effective...my personal favorite
  5. New found privileges?? Hell do ye think I set him free or something?? Tis only his birthday...sheesh....

  7. I have heard rumors that there is no longer camping for reenactors? Any truth to this?

  9. That would be the interior tailoring from Cut of men's clothes... actually if you flip a few pages toward the front of that book, you would find patterns even closer to 1700, including one from 1700 I believe...skirts are tad less full...
  10. In light of this previous quote from Foxe, regarding the percentages of mariners in the Carribean by nationality, according to David Cordingly: Quote 35% were English 25% colonial Americans 20% West Indian (mostly from Jamaica and Barbados) 10% Scottish 8% Welsh 2% Dutch, Swedish, Spanish, and French.
  11. Hmmm two problems with this...different time frame... and unfortunately there are a lot of vendors who are out to make money and are not too concerned with historical accuracy...so what you see on a vendor's webpage, may be far from what was actually worn...and comparing a cotton damask coat from 1730-1750s to a regimental from 1700 could be throwing you way off from what was actually worn...
  12. thanks Daniel... maybe this will help with the hunting
  13. What do you think of their clothing? Does it look period? To me it's looks as if the whole bats of cloths has been made in one run, and maybe with a not so period material? Hmmm to hard to accurately tell from a photograph... but perhaps there is some way through flickr or the photographer to contact this unit... hopefully they would have the documentation that you need to support what sort of fabrics were used...
  14. I think we should stipulate early this time that the competition is not open to just captains...that seemed to be changed in mid-competition last time...
  15. Um my Spanish isn't...at all but could are these reenactors of the regiment you are interested in... Can someone translate? I am not finding anything in plain English regarding the Legion of Old Purple... is there another way of translating the name or is their a more formal regimental name and/or number? ah one more question...does the regiment still exist?
