  1. Oh gotta love Andalusians but too small for me...
  2. PC Patrick... I do NOT dry clean my clothes... simply brush em off and put in a clothes press with the tar sample.... as captains would be around tar just as much as the crew.... Of course the lace hankies might reek of something else... Also remember tobacco smells and fire smoke, black powder etc.... and not knowing if it would be pc or not, just going by the naval blokes somewhat later... I do have work clothes as well as dress "uniform" a term I would use lightly
  3. Isn't there a thread some where here, regarding the cook stoves on the ships? Wasn't large copper pots/cauldrons mentioned?
  4. Im going shopping at Briar's house!!! You know this is not a bad idea.... Maybe we could start a thread where we could purchase, barter, swap, whatever fabrics we have but find we don't really use with others here at the pub for something others have that we may wish for?????
  5. Jack you have too much time on yer hands....
  6. Here's a hint we learned from Foxe... a proper "scummy" pirate, as Patrick would call them, should smell the part as well... after every event...don't wash your clothes, pack them away until your next event in a Rubbermaid bin along with a sample of tar... of course you may wish to tar some of yer kit as well, as they did. This helps your clothing stink like tar, or as young Merriweather likes to say, really rotten bacon (??) and thus more like an actual sailor... I believe, for those that are interested in authenticity, that there is a thread over in Twill regarding tarring methods... *** and the scummy crew would hardly be associating with high class courtesans..
  7. ACK!! **banging head on keyboard** spent all day tailoring the inside back of the gray coat... turning four hours into six because, after all these years, I managed to tailor two right sides... *grumble, grumble, grumble**
  8. and um...aye...if we settle on one size, we won't end up with people donating four different sizes...
  9. You bet! What length would you be wanting?
  10. Agreed, stealing would be best....
  11. So what is Latin for the term "no name" ? Glad to have taken the edge of yer day William...hope things take a turn for the bright side.
  12. Since the Mercury seems to have brought this whole show together... I would have no problems with her being named after one of the Mercury's small boats... after all, no matter what she's named, my crew will steal her anyway...
  13. And, here we go, 1720-27 All from Cut of Men's Clothes by Waugh
  14. Hope this helps...scanned some different necklines for patterns taken from original coats... the softer curve seems to just start coming in during the 1720s and by the 1730s the neckline edge no longer has a sharp distinction... 1730s is after the recognized hey day or Golden Age of pyracy...
  15. dang sorry meant for projects thread...
  16. Yeah for the land of bearded men... they're even fuzzier when they all wear their wigs...
  17. sounds like a cunning plan...I'm in!!
