  1. hmm me thinks this is not so much "interactive" as it is a bunch of people saying the movie lines along with the movie. (With a few exceptions) not quite as good as Rocky.
  2. Just for the record when buying from Excalibur Leather the price is definately worth what you get. I bought a leather hat from them seven years ago, wear it alot. The leather aged well and all the stitching and sealing is still great. They even were willing to switch the hat for me a year after I bought it because my hair grew enough not to fit under the original. The Duchess
  3. I think I said this before on another thread about hats... But on the practical aspect of a cavalier hat. If you're not going to do any musket shooting, but you are going to be wearing this hat for many long hours out in the sun... You might want to go with a cavalier that isn't pinned up at all. 4. We just had the last weekend of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival (I've worked out there for eight years or so) and this year there where at least four new characters (people who work there) as pirate captains. One dressed as Legolas. And all the leather workers were selling tricorns, that used to be special order only. How's that for movie influence.
  5. Also peoples of the middle east, or more generally from areas comprising the Ottoman Empire of old, very commonly wore their money. This offered up a convient way to carry it with you as well as display it.
  6. Thanks for the destination advice, unfortunately I didn't make it there. I'm back from my trip now, and the whole thing was amazing. Unfortunately the weather was so poor east and south, I spent most of the time flying just below the clouds and just above the ground. I finally ended up in Wyoming where it was much more dry. 7. Aye, being a bit tall me self, I finally went to the Chicago Levi's store and tried out the Original Spin program. They measure you up, then you pick exactly the way you want your pants to fit, inseam, leg opening, material, fly, pockets etc. And mysteriously two weeks later the perfect pants show up on the doorstep. A truly inspired program.
  8. Great another pirate belly dancer! Altira patterns are very good. There are even patterns for men's vests etc. if you want to go the Barbary pirate route. There's a jacket pattern that screams to be made into a pirate coat! (Can't remember pattern name for the life of me the name It comes in a long and boleros style and has a high neckline, and is very tailored. Do you know which one I am talking about Duchess?) As for harem pants, I myself stuff my harem pants in my boots and allow them to billow out. It look qute graceful especially when I am sword fighting. :) I also wear a Ghazee coat (aka Turkish cote, Persian cote, alteri, & yelek) which I picked up off the rack at the Escondido Ren. Faire. It needs taking in a bit at the shoulders and waist (I am no seamstress I need to find someone who'll do it for cheap). It to looks great either just hanging around or fighting. The chemise Iwear under it is of a netted material which I will do a faux assuit embroidery on. I can't afford the real thing right now. Also the fabrics can be cool confortable and exotic. Think Indain saris, Morrocan textiles... Good to see you aboard Duchess! The blessed unity in one person of a pirating belly dancer! I am so glad there are others who understand. :) I've seen the jacket you're speaking of, but alas, cannot recall the name either. I've got a gawahzee coat I made from altiras pattern, with short sleeves and full length. This one I made with a very scooped neck to show a decorated bra, so it doesn't work so well for pirate looks. I intend to sew a second one with long sleeves and a high vee neck that should do quite well. Altiras pattern is quite nice, but essentially is only a costume (meaning things that are intended for stage only) pattern. It does not offer any instructions on finishing the jacket in a way that would stand up to constant wear or every day clothing. So I had to hunt down and ransom a more accomplished sewer to help me with those things. In the end it was worth the effort. :) Thanks for the Welcome Red Maria Where are you located? The Duchess
  9. Let's hear it for the Amazon Pirate Women! I'm in at 5'10" myself.
  10. Come august, I'm taking to the skies on a flyabout. My tentative plan is to fly south from Wisconsin, down to Texas and find a pass through into New Mexico. I'll be camping at small airports and doing various touristy things along the way. So what are your reccomendations of good things to see in the central states? (Piratey or otherwise) The Duchess
  11. Hey did anyone else catch the homage to Pirates of Penzance in Captain Sparrows last comment to the mayor? I thought that was great.
  12. You are right. I watched the film again last night, straigthend things out a bit. Also caught some lines I missed the first time. The Duchess
  13. If you be looking for leather hats may I reccomend Excalibur Leather, probably retailed at you local renfest, assuradly online at www.excaliburleather.com I have owned a leather cavalier hat for nigh on to six years, and so far I've found nothing better for the rain or the sun. The website shows these hats pinned up on one side, but that is optional and I would say if you actually plan to wear your hat in the sun Do Not Pin It Up. The lopsided sunburn on your face will hurt like hell. On the other hand it will give your mates something to laugh at. Probably the best thing would be to find a fest where these guys are at, that way you can bargin about options, price and desires you have. The Duchess
  14. Excellent! Mayhap you could point in the right direction to look?
  15. Dunno. Wondered that meself. I assume it wasn't cursed gold -- I think olny the gold coins/medallions from the chest is cursed. With all that other gold around in the Treasure Cave why would anyone needs be takin' the cursed gold? I think Jack was countin' on the "Black Pearl" still waitin' fer him when he came outta the Treasure Cave. The treasure Jack had probably was confiscated by Norrington. Blackheartedly yrs, --Jamaica Rose "Them's wot falls behind, gits left behind." --The Pirate Code Hmm, I thought there were several scenes of Captain Jack sifting through the treasure and tossing most pieces over his shoulder. I assumed that he was sorting the Aztec gold from other miscellaneous loot, because it was never specified that the only cursed stuff was in the chest, it was just the last pieces the could find. At least that is my brain trying to make the whole story work. :) The Duchess
  16. Well as long as we're all lining up and announcing our new-ness I will join the crowd. :) So some more about me... I'm from Wisconsin,so not much in the way of sea going around here. Though if I had to choose my second home would probably be Staniel Cay in the Bahamas. I've been fascinated with all things not strictly modern ever since I was little which lead to doing renfaires and is moving into costuming mania. Much like ravens all things shiny or of nice texture attract my attention....mmmm...baubles.... So there is a little about me. :) The Duchess
  17. Wow, I had no idea that pirate chat rooms even existed! But now that I do look out! Any way being a pirate fiend, a belly dancer and ocasionally a crazed costume lady, I will offer up some ideas to the alter. Altira's Fashions has some nice middle eastern type patterns, printed on heavy white paper. Don't over look the Harem pants, very easy to sew and tucked into a pair of boots, they billow beatifully in the wind. :) Also patterns for yolked shirts and a jacket thing called a Gawazhee Coat, that with a little alteration makes nice, fitted pirate gear. So hello to everyone. The Duchess
