Sorry False Ransom, I know quite a few people who've done it...though they're all my parent's age, and also of one my age who lives in a 38 motorcrusier inherited by his late father. I am battling similar urges but telling myself that a 22 pop-top Catalina sailboat is all I need. My 1957 Ford for sale = boat. So I'm a bad influence.

Hester, may I suggest a Ramos Ginn Fizz? http://www.drinkboy.com/Cocktails/recipes/...mosGinFizz.html This, I consider, is a must-have when I am in southwest Florida, which is where I'll be in a week and a half, since the drink is glorified by Lizabeth Scott in the 1947 film "Dead Reckoning" with Humphrey Bogart. The movie takes place in ficticious "Gulf City", which can only be somewhere between Ft Myers and Tampa. This film is in my top 5 faves. The trick is to keep the egg white from foaming too much from the blender, otherwise you will be drinking just suds. It's kind of tricky, so mix slowly.

^Doin the Drive-in in Warwick, NY with a workmate of mine as we did last year. Though not a pyrate such as weselves, it'll be us with many little ones. I'm tempted to take the old 57 Ford, if the brakes work (...heh!) but I'll go even in me boring VW wagon. (Hint: 57 Ford Fairlane for sale $4500, no rust...will negotiate....trying to buy a sailboat so I don't have to sail dad's) <Drinkin' red wine at this very moment. I only choose south American or Australian, or New York reds (2 750 ml bottles for $7 ).....supposed to make you live longer on account of the rugged, and less-than-perfect growing environment of the grapes, bein' the magic ingredient being "resveratrol".....doesn't give me a headache either the way French and California wines do. V Ren-faire or history buff...or just interested in pyrates?

....because if there ever were, they would have been quite the prize for anyone to behold. Even an 18th century navy would have considered such a prize worthy of display, and inevitably the entire world would see such things. I've seen many things at both the US and British National archives, including the entire Smithsonian, and never was a single pyrate flag. No photo in any books, no university collections, no museums, not even maritime museums in Mystic, New Bedford, or Nantucket, or St. Agustine, Baltimore, New York, Norfolk, Key West, Galveston, or Tampa. Have I seen Half a dozen real battlefield Stars&Bars from the early 1860's?, YES....Real 1700's jolly rogers, NO. Somehow I don't think this is something one stores in a dusty old trunk up in the attic. I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong. Thankfully we have what's left of the Queen Anne's Revenge, and the Whydah.

No problem, matey! But the issue regarding bucket boots, esp. with french pirates keeps getting more murkier: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Janbart.jpg I would suspect that the artists who make these statues have never met, let alone seen these men,. But Hollywood depictions aside, how is it possible for artists (even in the 17th/18th/19th centuries) to depict bucket boots in portraits & statues? Is this a case of them not doing their homework?

Congratulations on becoming notorious pyrate. ^Broke me wrist after falling off my sunporch trying to saw of an overhaning tree branch, kept looking up and never looked down, fell 3 meters onto my concrete patio . Fortunately my "cat intincts" allowed me to position myself for the fall instead of falling backwards, otherwise I would not be here typing this. . Fun ride down though!...it was the ending that sucked. Now I have a metal plate in my left wrist. < Um..... V Do you write cursive (script) or block letters?

Hey mates! What's the story with the Whydah museum exhibit these days? Is this booty ever gonna go public or is it going to get shut down by the PC police everytime someone proposes a show? This is killing me, I want to see this so badly.

^ I have recurring dreams of falling overboard and having to swim ashore. The story is always the same but the geographic locattion changes. Last time it was the Amalfi coast in Italy. <It is but a fortnight before I depart the northeast for a long weekend in southwest florida, woo hoo! V Ever listen to non-US radio stations? I'm listening to Invicta 103.1 FM out of London right now via internet.

^Gettysburg national Military park. Most national parks have sensational views....this place has an "ambience" all it's own. <Today is the second time I have someone refer to non-filter cigarettes (Camel, Lucky Strike, Pall Mall) as "bad-boy" cigarettes. V Recall your last dream you had before you woke up.

Now, that man is a true salt.....in the way that only old salty sea dogs can be!

You are making me hungry. I am now the dog that is salvating and drooling by the kitchen counter, with it's sorrowful eyes.

Callenish Gunner, will this satisfy ye? William, The way above illustration in question is by Obra de Chasselai. Museu Histórico Nacional / Rio....I have no idea of the date, or whether it is historically accurate, I must confess.

Ugh! Last night I ordered take-out from a new sushi place that just opened up in my town. I figure I'd give it a shot, since there are no sushi places within the town I moved to, and I was somewhat relieved that local taste was moving away from the stone age, thank God. I'm all for supporting local businesses. I ordered the typical 'sushi regular' that all sushi places have. The final price was a friggin $19.41, including tax, for an order of one. Whuh!??? All I got was two tuna, two salmon, one whitefish, 8 california rolls, miso soup , and a puny salad. No eel, no mackeral, no shrimp, no egg, no roe, no beans...not even a small cup for soy sauce, or even the soy sauce packets. I have gotten better variety for a quarter of the price at the grocery store, minus the freshness. I'm not sure what sushi goes for nationwide, but I say the going price for regular is $10-12....maybe up to $14. I remember when I was living in Chicago, off of North Clark St, and you could get the same for $7 if you ordered before 7pm. Before I bought a house, I would eat sushi at least once a week, now I'm lucky if I can do it once every 2 months. Bu this place? Forget it.

I would think that the first step is to take the wind out of the sails of the deniers. Having Al Gore saying GW is a proven fact is not enough. All I'm saying is show an example of human interference, like the goold old days when you saw photographs of lungs covered with tar from smoking. I don't believe it will happen with this current White House.

It took several scientific studies by the federal govenrment, and countless universities and other goverments worldwide to finally determine that smoking causes lung disease , and to get the cigarette makers to shut up and go away. The global warming issue is no different. Having studies done by this government will hopefull answer the question for good, .....and if it proves right, finally shut the lid on right-wing bigmouths like Limbaugh, Hannity, and O'Reilly.
