Depends. If the question is choosing between pirate costumes vs. owning a vessel, you should ask what your endgame goal is. What specifically do you you have in mind for a 'pirate sailboat'? I can only speak for me, because that's who my heart is attached to. I learned to sail, as did my parents, that's a skill I refuse to ignore, and therefore is an intrinsic part of who I am. I also plan on buying a sailboat and vowed I would not leave this life until I do. I'm wrestling with house renovations before I can make the plunge....so I'm on Dad's boat for a while. I have job experience as a boat builder so I convinced myself my plan is to buy a used and fix it up. As for costumes, I just enjoy the pirate persona and history, and plan on attending some events to meet friends, like-minded people and make a spectacle for tourists. Bottom line is 'don't kill yourself financially'...you never know how things will end up panning out. Best of luck!

"Anectdotal":...if you have seen the movie Master & Commander, you heard Russell Crowe speak of "our wooden world". Stubbed and broken toes aside, nothing would be more (excuse the pun) of a thorn in the side than errant splinters on deck. calloused feet are no match for slightly protruding timber slices. Trust me... I work in wood. There's nothing worse than splinters. Whether the deck is made of oak, mohogany, pine, teak, etc. ,makes no difference. At sea, decks get wet. That means a lot of sliding around, so feet are often not too well planted.

I looked a the Volvo wagons and the V70 was too pricy , the V40 has a poor durability record...so I settled for a VW ...didn't want to buy an SUV and look like everyone else in America. Now I wish I bought a Subaru wagon. Speaking of POTC, I'm still dissapointed at the performance of the Volvo sailing team (thanks to ABN-AMRO), and also dissapointed that Depp bailed out on the public showing with Team Volvo in Baltimore Harbor last year. However, anything free is the best choice.

I believe Mr. Royaliste, and the ship are making their way up the eastern seaboard, inevitably reaching the port ofNorfolk Va in early June, then Newport RI, along the way in late June: http://pyracy.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10493 But here's their schedule: http://www.privateerinc.org/reenactments.cfm

^Only when we had a Halloween party. <The elevator ride up, with other building tenants was the best (some of which were straight-laced lawyers). Me as a pirate with a 3 ft sword, my company president in army fatigues, face paint, and an Uzi, and a 6 ft 4 fellow employee dressed as a caveman with, bad teeth and a 3 ft club. V Do you fold your clothes neatly after the dryer...or just stuff them in the dresser?

May I just warn those who purchase POTC stuff at Walmart, there's something you should know. Last december, I bought Dead Man's Chest DVD for $19, it came with a supplemental CD of pirate shanties (Whale of a Tale, Yo Ho Ho, etc), there was also a cheaper copy without the music CD. Walmart's POTC copies are slightly different than the other retailers because of what I mentioned above, mainly because they push for lower retail prices. The do not include Disc 2, with all the out-takes, interviews, behind-the-scenes production, etc.

Geez, Patrick...who supports the war?....really? A couple of farmers from square-shaped states? A couple of frat-boy golfing buddies? God-Fearing republicans from Texas? Who cares about them! This war cannot end. We increase troops, the problem goes away in the short run and comes right back to the way it was before...ad infinitum. Was that the discussion in Fall 2003? No. If you want to get a gist of where things are at, go to www.wonkette.com and get a good laugh about it. At least I go to bed with a chuckle.

No, Patrick, no!!!!! This is Northern New Jersey (Sopranos country)....you do not, under any circumstances, want Venus De Milo statues. I'd look like all my gangster neighbors if I did! However Live ones always welcome!!!!!!....and I happen to have 'no dress'

I Have compiled a dozen or so list of reenactor clothing suppliers and sutlers, and they all have tricorn hats, except I can't find anything earlier than 1750 and later than 1660. After doing me homework, I have concluded that 1700-1725 tricorns seem like they are much bigger in loft, and a bit more upright than 1750s-Rev War counterparts. In fact, I went out of my way to install cable television last year just to get the Discovery Channel (or was it the History channel) docu on Blackbeard, andI saw that a few of the reenactor characters had some unusually vertical looking tricorn hats. I have to do it right before I go to GAOP...the hat is very important to me. I'm not looking for French court royalty stuff with maribou feathers al la Louis Quatorze (the 14th), just something a bit more rapscallion and ruffian, and not so much Barbossa or Musketeers....just a bad-ass seaman with authority. Any advice?...cause I got the credit card ready.

Thanks, Hurricane, that's a good start. I had a dream the other night about this silly thing....can't remember anything about it now. I was under the impression there was some story about a headless pirate, you know....me living on the opposite side of the Tappan Zee bridge from Sleepy Hollow, NY, such a story would seem logical.
