Hi all, thought i would report that Key West is getting back to normal and was spared much of Charlie. It was a wild night and day to be sure, but we all came thru it safe and sound (and hungover). Hope the rest of the crew is doing good, i know after he missed us he headed up towards some of you! Deadly Aim Key West Pirate

Thought i would right a quick update. The Florida Keys were spared quite a lot of the storm. There was a bit of damage, but the majority of that is already cleaned up and everything is pretty much open for business. I did see a some shops still boarded up on Duval St. but we're getting back to normal until Earl gets closer. Silver Steele, you have my sympathies mate. I lived in the washington/bath/greenville NC area for about 10 years. we had 6 in 5 years there and the last one I went through was Floyd. I figured if I was gonna get hit by hurricanes every year anyway, I might as well be in Key West! Plus, never live anywhere near someplace called the "great dismal swamp" (check the map, it's there) Good luck during Hurricane season. Key west is starting to batten down. all touristy type folks have to leave the islands. we are under a mandatory evacuation for non residents. predicting the eye will come within 30 miles of our lovely little island. aye, Merry, I have to put in me 2 pence and agree with the HarborMaster. I learned to dive after I came to Cayo Hueso, and it is AWESOME. I learned thru an SSI instructer, but PADI is more well known. It opens a whole new world, night diving and wreck diving are amazing!! One of my co-workers was a diver with Mel Fisher while he was looking for the Nuestra Senora de Atocha...and he's found several sponging wrecks with personal effects. If you ever get a chance it is 100% worth it to get certified. Deadly Aim Key West Pirate

ahhh nigel, ye put all us to shame when yer here! We're looking forward to seeing you for PIP, but if you come down earlier the women of Key West won't complain. Thank you all for your b-day wishs, I found a shop on the other end of duval that actually has 2 of the corsairs cd's for $10 each, which i consider a pretty good deal. lol. Ahhh the Western Union...I was out on her last night for a stargazer cruse...I have to say she is a nice ship, but at $59 per person for a sunset cruise is more expensive than some of the others in town...she is also larger and has live music on the sunset sail. The Schooner America is another nice boat to go out on. I'm not sure of rates on it. A little less expensive, and not rigged like a regular schooner is the Sunny Days. You can find all of them on the internet. I would say that the Western Union is worth it if it's in your budget. When are you headed down this way? I'd love to meet you at the Schooner Wharf and have a drink! Deadly Aim Key West Pirate

I am pleased to report that I spend the day like a good pirate lass, and with a friend we worked very hard to finish off a bottle of Conch Republic Rum...we then walked to the Schooner Wharf bar (one of the best bars on earth) and drank our way thru several beers and margaritas, after which we went on a stargazing sail on the Schooner Western Union. I hope when everyone else's birthdays roll around they have a day filled with rum and tall ships! Thank ye again Cap'n! Deadly Aim Key West Pirate
