:) Seems to me that patina isn't quite the issue with 'relic' condition finds, both dug and undug. Articles not in relic condition, however, greatly ride on the quality of their patinas. I purchased a pre Civil War sword last year. Excellent patina. Just before shipping, the seller thought he'd 'do me a favor' and cleaned half of it!! In the reverse, I have a 'relic' grade blade, and am slowly removing rust layers.........

Hardcore period rigging, 'A Young Sea Officer's Sheet Anchor",....enough useful knowledge- the U.S. Navy Bluejackets manual, on ebay cheap...for a visual, the San Francisco Master Mariners/Wooden Boat Magazine- Drakes Bay Cruise,Oct. 4-5. All wooden boats surrounding my tallship in Drakes Bay.visible from Point Reyes...

.....And at nearly a hunnert degrees today, I've managed to get the cannons off the ship n' on the dock....now, up to the parking lot......more rum, More-Guns.....

Hmmm, well, sailed out under the Golden Gate Bridge, shot cannons at 3 other ships, ran thru an America's Cup Race, and drank a bit 'o rum....a pretty fair start on the day......

:) ...Well, forty powder charges in the magazine, so it'll be a rockin' good time, but, two crew 'ave bailed, so, huntin' a few more.....RRRRR, shorthanded with three other ships, sorta like a hat trick in Hockey....

And, as stated waaay earlier, other than the anchor issue( and who's to say they didn't just 'cut and run', they were pirates) she can be single handed....Sailed mine single-handed and attacked the HC on me birthday just for the benefit of this very thread!..Same sheets, same number of braces, and her sails were brailed for the movie and accuracy, eliminating the need to raise or lower the gaffs.....big difference between hard and unbelievable,mate..........

Dixies Pedersoli is a good screw barrel, but the other one is junk. As far as ramrods, you need a ball starter anyway, so, buy one you like, and hang it wif'ye'ere other stuff! Ain't no uniforms 'ere,mate. I'm about to install a few brass ones on me ship so's everyone can fire without pullin' stuff out on a rollin' sea.....
