About that party...garbed or not? Not planning on bringing modern clothes, you see.

Well met, Limpy me lad. I, too, have a Daihatsu, FL license "Daihard", but now me main PT (pyrate transport) is a Toyota truck, license "Pyrate 1" I'll be havin' a bit o' that rum sir. And welcome aboard.

If memory serves, the toggle goes at the top of the flag and the loop at the bottom. I have no idea why this is so, as it should make no difference until someone who did it the other way wants to fly theirs with yours (beneath, of course.) Also known as a "toggle and beckett" and as "running eye and toggle." So call the local Scouts and find out for sure. That's why we keep the litttle buggers about for anyway.

A leward reef by any other name...

Or up...? *Spinning, spinning...*

Ankles are "naughty bits," depending on where you put them..... *Watching thread spin out of control*

There she goes, working both sides of the street. Or is that "sheet?"
-
And now for the "lady" in the back: her skirts seem a bit too high for propriety, and there seems to be a fellow behind her at close quarters (pun intended) who seems quite pleased with himself. She seems a bit surprised (pleased perhaps? 'tis a small picture) herself. And a third couple at the far back. Busy street.

Get her under contract, Kass, before Foxe wises up.

Exactly. Go with the two flags and capture historical accuracy in a bottle. Hmmm...Bottled accuracy...I could sprinkle some on the next Jack Sparrow I see, see if it makes his bucket boots disappear.

What is everyone else in the picture looking at?
-
One last note: why not have a French flag flying and an English flag on deck and started up the yard? 'Twould grant you an opening for a little history lesson.

Kass, I think perhaps his hat has gone awry, and we are looking at the side of a cocked hat, a devilishly hard thing to draw well. I think he looks like a sailor with a large kerchief. On a completely different note, the fellow in the middle has got his hose over his breeches. I wasn't totally convinced of that one.

"What did Captain Kidd's pirate flag look like" is actually a trick question. Kidd had a privateer's commission and never thought of himself as a pirate and therefore would have sailed under the colors of the commissioning country, England. That having been said, he is reported to have flown the French colors to lure the Quedah Merchant into range, a ship under the protection of the French government and therefore arguably a legitimate target.

No fair, Bess, no fair... Like when the time comes to depart the office for field work and I tell my co-workers its "Time to cast off..." or I tell them to close the tailgate on the truck by saying “Secure that hatch…” I also use that term when telling them to save their work on the computer as in “secure your work and let’s shove off for lunch…” I have yet to tell anyone to “avast” only because I’ve stopped myself.

I like it Paul. The large graphics and simple, familiar designs (for the times) will make that flag recognizable from a distance which, after all, is the point of flags at sea.

I'll be there on Saturday with She and our son. Amanjira, shall we try for a meet-up? I, too, will be at PiP. Next year, tryouts for the cast.

'Tis only mutiny iff'n we throws ye off the ship. 'Twould never happen.

The Red(waist)Coats are comming! As always impressive. I can't help but think that you will make a fine target at sea or ahore.

No I'm afraid not. She has other work/travel obligations that conflict. I mean to see that it doesn't happen again. And if you try to skip out again, you will be pressed.

I will be going and I will be camping. Capt. Jim Warren (Jim McGavic) Sail (tarp) and oars for shelter, bedroll etc. ship's lantern.

I, too, am looking to build a full scale gun station, but at present lack the funds. But the research I have begun. Try this site for technical drawings of the Constitution. Just click on the line drawing of the ship. You will need to download a viewer to open the .mil files, so read the instruction page. I gaurantee you will lose a day of work over this. As a bonus, I'll share some of the details/ideas that I had in mind to include. I was planning to use this model as a base for design. 1. Plank the upper deck, to support two rail guns and rifle men. 2. Build solid weather rails, not netting, to support above guns. 3. Build it on a trailer with a folding "stage" that hinges up to cover the open side away from the gun port. You should build it on a trailer because it will be heavy. The folding "stage" will act to cover one side of the trailer while the open ends can be covered with canvas (or two smaller wings). This will also give the narrator/lecturer a place to address the crowd. And you will draw a crowd. 4. Wire it for sound. Disguise PA system in powder kegs etc. This will save the lecturer's voice and can be used to play shanties between demonstrations. Or you could make the stage available for other acts, such as shantymen, between demos. What a backdrop. And the organizers of some events might pay for the stage and help defray the cost of powder. 5. Build it strong enough to support actual live firing. There are cannon competitions around the country and they have never seen a naval cannon; it's all Civil War field cannon and mortars. You never know when (not if) you will want to step up to the real thing. 6. Get good training and drill your men. Then drill some more. Many would say that this goes without saying, but then people are forever blowing their hands off, and I don't know you well enough not to say it so don't take offence. Build this into your program. This is all off the top of my head, so I'm probably forgetting some details. If I remember anything else, I'll post it here.

Looking for a longer clay, I came across this at Vegas Smokes. $27.95, plus shipping, about $42 altogether. Anyone have any experience with this company?
