  6. female pirates carried the same weapons as men ...it was equal opportunity lass ........... if a lass was bold enough to be a pirate she was as strong as women are .... if you like the weight and feel of the period piece go for it .... no girlie pirates need apply for the pillage and plunder ....nothing wrong with a womanly pirate but be able to pull your weight
  7. wool is a wonderful fabric ....first of all it is period!!! secondly it does great in wet environments it keeps you warm even when soaked....why else would scots and nords make so much clothing from it!!!! thirdly it will last and if you take the time to finish your coat by hand it will always have the look of authentic wear from the age of pirates ....it can be a bit warm for summer fests but as the season changes and the rains come smelling like a sheep sure beats hypothermia i spent 20 years at sea and i would always keep a wool jumper/sweater handy and a wool cap even in summer ....it gets cold at sea
  8. great pics ....morgan you look like you had a grand time in jamaica kendra you look like you're having fun and a lass can't ever have too much garb ...and if i was 30 years younger and ace you look great whether in your jack kit or the pilferred bits and siren two captains can more plunder
  9. i have done several films and plays on the cheap ..... depending on the shot shedual you want to do try using spandex and airbrushed made over the lower half of your actress wearing swim fins inside the tail ad several layers of frabric for the actual tail fins but the swim fins will give her more propulsion for the actual swimming ....also try shooting in soft focus and with a starburst filter ...a few sewn on secquins can catch the light to add visual interest .... see if you can get a local airbrush artist to donate their talents for film credit to do the painting
  10. great looking pics lad ..... we need more pirates looking like they mean business rather than family/kid friendly ....a bit more blood thirtsty lot
  11. ye do fyne work lass ....i bought a bodice and skirt from you for a friend o' mine a couple of years ago ........good to see you're doing some gent's wear ......what would something like that run in wool with a light white duck lining and i can supply period buttons for ye
  12. boots were a military option and for those who rode horses most well heeled gents owned boot if they rode ....in most portraits it was not fashionable to show a gentleman in his rough wear as he would wear in the country or into battle .........that butterfly looking piece of leather was a stirrup chap it kep the stirrup from rubbing a hole in your boots and offered a bit of cushion to your ankle from the rubbing and also allowed you to wear your spurs with out wearing a mark on your boots
  13. as far as i know there's only one campground on key west and yes they are pretty steep we stayed there last dec and they were expensive and the sites are very small .......good luck :)
  14. yes i loved my time there and the large open air market ....we would take the fast ferry from dordrecht and spend a day there.....i lived right along the harbour in dordrecht by the old hotel gate .....it is such a great country and the people are some of the friendliest anywhere
  15. charity lass where are you living in holland now ....i lived in dordrecht for a while a few years back ........some great ships in the harbour there .......i would love to go back and sail up from rotterdam in a tall ship and salute the city with a roaring salute
  16. political correctness even gets the dates wrong ......in june so the weather's a chance to be better than it can be in october ........and the french are always willing to rewrite history ....and get their noses out of joint
  17. just wanted to let everyone know that i sold the prussian pistol to a french and indian war re-enactor .........but i can get others so lett me know what you might be in the market for

  21. there is a campground on the key but the rates are the same as a midrange motel anywhere else $65+ a night and the sites are quite small and you pay by the head as well .....
