This is for Captain Midnights son!!!!
-
Felt that this needed to be passed along ...not sure if it had already been posted elsewhere !!! "Mates, I would like to ask a great favor of you all. In the early hours of this morning, my son was returning home from a 4th of July party and was shot three times by an unknown assailant. He was hit in the neck, chest and shoulder, and is in severe critical condition in the ICU at the Medical Center in Columbus, GA. It seems the bullet that hit his throat punctured his carotid artery as well as another artery which I can't remember the name of, and the one in his chest punctured his right lung. Please, mates, if you could all find it in your hearts, keep my son Brandin in your prayers. His mom and I have been at the ER since 3:30 a.m. and have just come home long enough to shower and sleep just a bit, and we'll head back up in the morning to be with him. We have been worried sick, and we still have a long way to go yet before we're out of the woods. Mates, as crusty and dark as I look in my pics, I believe in the Almighty and His mercy, and the power of prayer. Please remember him and my family and me as we try to get through this. I would so greatly appreciate it. Kindest regards, Captain Midnight" Please add your prayers to help the son of one of our own!!!!!!

Been at least 15-18 years since I have had the chance to see those guns in Glasgow. Used to be an old gent named Barkley who took care of the weapons there, fine gent let me see many in the restoration rooms This shot might help you Silkie ...another Scottish pistol in the collection

It's their yard and their ball ....so their rules I agree with you Dogge Safety has to be instructed and drilled into folks to make sure they understand the need for safety ...and as always half-cock or flashguard are only devices and with all devices come failures The most important safety feature comes BETWEEN YOUR EARS ... USE IT!!!!! It only takes one accident to change the rules for everyone!!!

Repairing Denix Flintlock Replicas
callenish gunner replied to TheDreadPirateMorgan's topic in Armory
Real flintlocks can be carried in most locales since they fall outside the parameters of the federal firearms act (check local ordinances) and they do cost more than decorator replicas but they do more as well -
Many Happy returns of the day Mickey & Kate!!! . Hope to see you folks again real soon, it doesn't look like we'll make the Lockehouse again this year & we take it you aren't going to make Ft. Niagara

One thing I was told about while doing French & Indian War reenacting many years ago was that it kept sparks from your musket from landing in your hat and catching fire especially if it had been waxed to make it waterproof ....not sure how true that is or if that was some superstition passed along by reenactors to recruits.... That was what I was told of it about 35 years ago anyway

The major difference between a period gun and a modern military field piece is the level of compression and barrel design... the metal fatigue that occurs in modern weapons is caused mostly due to the repeated intense compression inflicted on the metal of the barrel with close fitting diameter of the modern rounds used and the amount of propellant used to fire the projectile the distances required in modern warfare. Liability is for weaselly lawyers

We're hoping to be there but, I'm having some recalled parts for the clockwork in m' chest switched out, a few days before. Hopefully I'll be up to the drive. God knows I try to beat the Devil at every step. Seems there has been something to block my coming to this event now for 3-4 years running.

What salty wears are jumps (semi-boned); because we got them while she was pregnant we had them made laced fore and aft, so that she could wear them during the entire pregnancy and they would accommodate the changes in her body shape. The historic clothing seamstress who made them was happy to finally see a pair that she made used as they were intended.

That's a bit off-course for us lad but we too shall be driving down, all 1450 miles worth. Would have to see about a larger vehicle to car-pool with anyone else though; Jeeps aren't known for volumes of space. Most full sized vans get about the same mileage though!!!

Thanks mate ....a great selection of pictures and videos

He was always one of my heroes growing up as a lad. He was one of the major reasons I had studied acting and stage combat for over 10 years. In 1967 I got a shard of glass through my earlobe and as a bit of a lark I put an earring through it. A few months later I went home to Scotland and when my Grandmother saw me and my pierced ear she said "Oh don't you just look like Errol Flynn, so handsome." It's been in my ear ever since. I had always wanted to take up where he had left off. I'll lift a glass with you lad to the man we wanted to be. Slaite
