^ Not by nature, but I can get up early if I HAVE to. < Also came from one of those families that put the "fun" in dysfunctional (well, maybe fun for them, but not for me...) V In the water, next to the water or on it?

It will be a long sail for some of us to get there. We're working out a sea battle or something along those lines...

^ Try to keep the old friendships, but some of my closest friends I've only known for a few years. < Our new kitty has discovered his favorite afternoon sleeping spot - behind our couch. V Cats, dogs or birds?

Or the one yelling, "Me love you long time!"

^ Depends on the situation and how important the future outcome is to me. < I often ponder on past choices and how they affect my current life. V If calories were no object, what would be your ultimate decadent meal?

Mystery Men is SO full of great lines: "We've got a blind date with Destiny - and it looks like she's ordered the lobster." "You must be like the wolf pack, not like the six-pack." "We struck down evil with the mighty sword of teamwork and the hammer of not bickering." "There's not enough beer in the world, Spleen, I'm sorry."

I'd want to be able to instantly speak another person's language when I needed to.

Jerry Seinfeld had a pretty good monologue about public speaking. He said that more people are scared of public speaking than they are of death. Which means that at a funeral, more people would prefer to be the person in the casket than the one giving the eulogy.

I used them back in the Dark Ages and it was a HUGE chore to stop their service. I kept going back and forth with one of their "service" reps who kept trying to talk me into staying. After several minutes of a fruitless arguing, I told him I was so serious about quitting AOL that I would cancel my credit card that AOL used for billing and that WOULD stop the service. At that point, the guy finally believed that I truly meant what I said about wanting to discontinue using AOL.

I'm in my garb for gigs/shows/events sometimes two or three times a week and have done lots of errands to and from them, so folks are used to me dressed like a pirate. It's like wearing a uniform, kind of.

^ Depends if they are still useful or have significant sentimental value. Otherwise, nope. < My first car was a 1963 Chevy Nova. Pea green. V Do you have one of "those" drawers (you know - stuffed with junk)?

It's supposed to warm up a bit this weekend, Patrick. There's black ice to the south of us and some snow at the higher elevations. And rock and mudslides in the Telegraph Hill area of San Francisco. We get rock and/or mudslides just about every winter in the SF area - very hilly, ya know.

Jack and I adopted a kitty this weekend. In the harbor where our boat is kept are several feral cats and this one cat who was very friendly. We used to feed him cheese and cold cuts and he'd always run over whenever he'd see us (he did this before we started feeding him...) An older gentleman was feeding the harbor cats and folks were complaining, so he was ordered to stop. Now the feral cats were catching critters and doing fine, but the friendly cat was a lap kitty; some idiot had abandoned him awhile back. So rather than allow this beautiful cat to starve, Jack and I took him in. He is one of the best-behaved cats I've ever encountered. He's very dignified and affectionate and LOVES to be groomed. We've named him Morgan, after the pirate and the rum.

^ Besides my wits? Actually, I do have a good luck tiki. < Adopted a kitty this weekend. V Any particular superstitions?

Yep! They are addictive - but I have to be careful or there's no sleep for me... There are also chocolates that have the coffee incorporated into them and are shaped like slightly larger coffee beans; they're called Mocha Beans. They are SO good. I used to have a source to get them wholesale but sadly, no longer.

Not as of yet. This is just something that we heard from the docents about the boat. However, there's a piratical exhibit on the Rose/Surprise right now. Check this out: Pirates Take over the H.M.S. Surprise SAN DIEGO—The Maritime Museum of San Diego has been transformed into a pirate’s hideaway with the museum’s newest exhibit Pirates of the Pacific on board the HMS Surprise. Some of the most notorious pirates in history prowled the world’s largest ocean. Pirates of the Pacific will highlight the exploits of William Dampier, a sophisticated buccaneer who mixed an interest in natural science and geography with a lust for adventure. The exhibit will also focus on Chinese pirates that threatened merchant ships in the South China Sea for nearly 100 years before a squadron of Royal Navy warships destroyed the pirate fleet. Pirates of the Pacific will satisfy people’s timeless fascination and insatiable curiosity about these outlaws of the ocean with a marvelous collection of artifacts, pictures and hands-on exhibits. Pirates of the Pacific opens at the Maritime Museum of San Diego on Saturday, May 27, 2006 and continues through October, 2007. (Except for 2/12/07 - 3/1/07, when she'll be in the shipyard.) And four hours south might make for a nice weekend trip...

This may interest you... The Rose is currently in San Diego and still set up as the "Surprise" from the Master and Commander movie. According to the docents at the Maritime Museum, when Fox's lease is up on that ship, they are turning it into a pirate boat and doing cruises around the area.
