    Coming Soon!

ST. Augustine Pirate University is a fun FREE web site that refreshes your knowledge with a brief overview of various aspects of Pirateology.

At St. Augustine Pirate University we offer the student an opportunity to earn a free professional degree in their chosen field of piracy. Our degree programs are: Associate, Baccalaureate, and Master Degrees in Piracy, Buccaneering, Privateering, and Re-enacting. It is our hope that you enjoy your course of study while fulfilling the goal of obtaining your degree in piracy or associated careers.

We are almost up and running with our, start up, basic curriculum. Our plan is to become a repository for sharing knowledge of pirate information. We will host all areas of interest from basic history through detailed information of sail handling, navigation, modern reenacting, movies, books, and are open for content.

Of course we are not a sanctioned educational institution. We are an association of pirate enthusiasts who have established this center for pirate "Knowledge Sharing" in a format that measures your pirate knowledge and acknowledges your level, with a free diploma, as a way of peer recognition. We hope that you enjoy the process of refreshing your pirate knowledge and take pride in your accomplishment and that of your Brethren Pirates, Buccaneers, Privateers and Reenactors.

If you are a pirate enthusiast, historian, or have information you would like to share, join us and become an instructor in your area of interest.

    Email: St. Augustine Pirate University

    pirate_university@josephlosteen.com for questions and comments.

We will post the Site link here when we have the basic site completed.

  2. I had a USS Constitution model once when i was 11.  It was quite large  (about 2 and a half feet long)....it was one of those kits built by Revell or whatever.    The 4th of july being a big deal in my town meant accessability to lots of fireworks so the poor thing got subjected to lots off attacks with firecrackers.  Silly juvenile stuff I did.  I still have rolls of miniature rope that came with it (rather thick olive-colored thread) which is impossible to break.

Now I am taking interest  in stuff like this but I have to ask myself is the price really worth it? Model Kits  Check out the mini cannons too!

Here is my model of the Connie......built it about 15 years ago...she is about 3 ft counting the bow sprit.............Cost about $50 back then.

  3. I really need to update my pirate site as its grown unwieldy.

I am trying to make the transition from a cobbled together HTML nightmare, to a smooth flowing easy to update site done in CSS.

The end result is that the appearance and potentially flavor of the site is changing at the same time...

I am not sure if its for good or ill, and would like some opinions.

    Here is the old

    http://www.gentlemenoffortune.com/gofindex.htm

    and here is the NEW

    http://www.gentlemenoffortune.com/

I would like to think that I have a tough enough skin to handle all comments, so please, if you have some time, take a look.

(so far, the changes only affect the front page)

    Thanks, in advance

    gof

I love it....very pleasing to the eye and easy to navigate......well done!

  7. A tourist couple, who will be visiting St. Augustine on the 14th of September to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary, have asked me to conduct a pirate wedding where they will be rededicating them selves to each other in the finest pirate traditions. They will then take the two hour sunset cruise on the Tall Ship Freedom and we decided to help them enjoy their wedding by joining them and see what we can pillage on the waters of Matanzas Bay. We are not planning on diner or any other activities at this time but are open to suggestions.

  8. You are quite welcome....Ma'am......btw I have run into lots of Florida pirates with white pants.....lol

Must be a Florida thing.... On the other hand, you make yourselves easy pickin's out of a crowd. ;)

I have given this some thought and research. It is my opinion that a pirate is a reflection of his environment. Florida was Spanish and like the other Spanish tropical and sub tropical areas of the Caribbean and Northern South America the typical dress was light colors, particularly white to help reflect the intense heat. Seamen also often wore clothing made from sail cloth. Most countries had bright white sails while English sails were a little more dingy off white. I think that when you see clothing of browns, grays etc…. they are clothes from Europe and North America….It must have been terrible for those who tried to wear their Northern Hemisphere clothing in the tropics. It is uncomfortably hot here at least 10 months of the year.

  13. 1) You have GOT to be the coolest Grandpa EVER!

    2) Where DID you get that cannon?  I need one  :D

I bought this canon from a local fellow who bought it from the Lightner Museum.....it is a wooden replica ( light weight so I can pull it around at book signings)..the museum used to pull it out front each morning to attract tourist.

I got it for $80 but it is just what I need.

Where I bought mine has several made of concrete....good for static display ...Captain Eye has some nice canon, perhaps he can point ye in the right direction for a good canon.

Here is a little better shot of the canon at a book signing in 2005 at the Rockefeller Mansion in Ormond Beach, Florida

    joepat300.jpg

That be my youngest son with me in the photo..."Silver tonged Patrick, the Wench Chaser"......lol

    Thank'ee!

    Hoist the Colors

    The king and his men

stole the queen from her bed

and bound her in her Bones.

    The seas be ours

    and by the powers

    where we will we'll roam.

Yo, ho, haul together, hoist the Colors high.

Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die.

Some men have died and some are alive and others sail on the sea –

with the keys to the cage...

    and the Devil to pay

    we lay to Fiddler's Green.

    The bell has been raised

    from it's watery grave...

Do you hear it's sepulchral tone?

We are a call to all,

    pay head the squall

and turn your sail toward home.

Yo, ho, haul together, hoist the Colors high...

Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die
