  1. Jib - Treasure Island music by the Chieftains is on their CD 'Reel Cuts' which is a compilation of their film scores. Jas. Hook
  2. Aye Michael, in the story they weren't ship issue but personal weapons and were used in the story to accomplish feats of long distance accuracy. As for the GAoP... both of the timelines were post Golden Age. LJS was about 1750's and in Lewrie with the Carolina Loyalist Milita (Ferguson armed) at the Siege of Yorktown 1781 and carried afterward. Jas. Hook
  3. In current fictional writing it's interesting that two authors introduce two non-muskets into their naval series. In John Drake's 'Long John Silver' series he has characters using Pennsylvania Rifles and in Dewey Lambdin's 'Alan Lewrie' series has the characters using breachloading Ferguson Rifles. Jas. Hook
  4. 'appy Birthday, Master Gunner Jas. Hook
  5. Aye It be interesting how we come about those special interests in our lives and how drawn we are to them. But how many folks can be the reincarnation of Blackbeard, etc? Our do we just follow past experience in a more humble trade, a fisherman, gunner, sailmaker, tailor, sign painter, carpenter. Jas. Hook
  6. Treasure Island (1990) with Charlton Heston as Long John and Christian Bale as Jim Hawkins and Oliver Reed as Billy Bones. Music was by Paddy Moloney and the Chieftains.
  7. I just started reading Rediker's Villians of All Nations. It is interesting how he explains piracy as a proletariat struggle against the establishment, a way of getting even against past abuses. Jas. Hook

  13. As previously noted in the Pub by Mission, I just received from the Amazon folks The Pirates of the New England Coast 1630-1730 by G.F. Dow & J.H. Edmonds Jas. Hook
  14. Dewey Lambdin's Jesters Fortune book #7 in the Adam Lewrie series. Jas. Hook
  15. I watched the movie last night. Interesting but a stranger T.I. than what we're use to seeing, especially the characters. The movie even back-steps a bit to introduce Donald Sutherland in the role of Captain Flint. Ben Gunn is a hoot in body paint, much like Johnny Depp decked out with the cannibals. I haven't gotten to the special features portion of the disc yet. Also the DVD had a trailer for Neverland that had some quick pirate scenes in it. Looks like Bo Hoskins plays Mr. Smeed. Jas. Hook
  16. Great photos but what video did I miss??? Jas. Hook

  22. Cascabel - Virginia... on the Chesapeake, north of Hampton, east of Richmond. I saw some of the news photos of the fire and aftermath, what a mess. Jas. Hook
  23. Dutch - Tough news Any updates? Jas. Hook
  24. K-CA - Hummm... Interesting that 'Ganymeade' should pop up twice recently as reads. Black Steven posted in Pyracy Pop a futuristic pirate book called The Ganymeade Protocol. Jas. Hook
