  1. Happy Birthday wishes to ye Cap'n May the day find ye with a fresh ham on ye plate, a comely wench set upon ye knee and a flagon of rum punch on the table.
  2. Memoirs of a Buccaneer: Dampier's New Voyage Around the World 1697 by William Dampier, Dover Maritime 2007
  3. Horatio - Welcome aboard sir! Nieuw-Amsterdam (aka NYC, a penal colony unto its self)... close but no cigar.
  4. Treasure Island (2012) Now that's a strange movie with a lot of twists in the characters roles. Donald Sutherland as a ruthless Captain Flint was good. Wood (Ben Gunn) reminded me of Depp as the Canibal Chief role. Mrs. Hawkins played a more gritty role than usually portrayed. The Squire in this version is just a ruthless, averice poop. Eddie (John Silver) is not your average Long John... The tribal head tattoo and flashy coat were just bizarre for my taste, his wife could have been played by Caribbean Pearl.
  5. DS - No way to careen the ship for repairs? Cannons... ever try the decorative turned toothpicks? Asian markets use 'em a lot at the sample tables. Jas. Hook
  6. Gryffin - Crocs... I was wearing them at the NJ Pirate Fest with skull and bone pop-ins. I usuall wear a pair of pc buckle shoes that have broken my feet in, not vice versa. For long term standing or parades, etc. I've considered making up a pair of NB or equal walking shoes in black and shoe buckle added, perhaps to the velcro closing ones. Although these alternatives are not period correct, foot health should be a #1 concern especially for folks with underlying health issues. Jas. Hook

  8. Welcome aboard Gryffin. Smooth sailing to ye in your new found interests. Too bad ye missed the Hampton Va. Blackbeard Fest... the whole town goes pirate.
  9. Ahoy matey, welcome back! Your leather cartridge box came in real handy last week in Hampton. It provided splendid service as a pocket to hold wallet, room card, spare camera battery and SD card, etc. Jas. Hook
  10. Dutch - Pleasure to have finally met you and Grace. What a blast... walk around all weekend in kit and you felt like part o' the town. I'm already looking forward to the 15th Annual. Jas. Hook Note: must get the fried oyster vendor on Queen Street closer to the pirate camp.
  11. Cran - I could have used the map last Friday on the trip down to Hampton.
  12. I found a product called Walnut Ink in an art store. It is a medium brown and I've used it in some map work. Is there any historical bases for this ink? Jas. Hook
