  5. The much anticipated first race of the Schooner Wharf Bar Wrecker’s Cup Race Series is scheduled for Sunday, January 28 at 1:00 p.m. The course is 7 miles from Key West Harbor to Sand Key, re-enacting the ancient wrecking tradition of Key West…a series of ruthless one way races to the reef to claim the booty. This all-in-fun race series recalls the tradition of the wreckers in the Key West of the 1800’s. Vessels laden with rich cargoes from Gulf and Caribbean ports often became victims of storm and the unmarked reefs off Key West. The first wrecker to reach the site had the responsibility to save the passengers and crew---but they also won the right to salvage the cargoes. Some historians have written that it was not unusual for 20 or 30 boats to race to a wreck. The Captains’ Meetings are held in the Sail Loft at Schooner Wharf at 7:00 p.m. the Saturday before each race. Captains enjoy complimentary Pusser’s Rum punch while reviewing race procedures. The Awards Ceremony & Party is held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, race day. Captains & crew can see themselves under sail while viewing film footage taken of the race by the official race committee boat. Gabriel Wright will be entertaining with current and classic favorites. Trophies and prizes are earned by the top 3 vessels in 6 to 7 different classes --schooner, multi-hull, classic, monohull 29' and under, monohull 30-39 feet, monohull 40 feet and possibly a Hobie Cat class! At the race start Key West harbor is a magnificent sight, filled with colorful sails and spinnakers on vessels ranging from 16 feet to 120 feet. https://www.schoonerwharf.com/24wreckersrace.htm

Key West wouldn't be Key West without sailors and Schooner Wharf Bar, and sailors wouldn't be sailors without rum and ropes. Watch what happens when all four of them combine on the docks at Schooner Wharf Bar, your After Sail Headquarters! Sailors and any interested challengers will frustrate themselves and entertain the crowd as they race to tie a bowline and lasso a piling. But add a shot of Mt. Gay Rum and an icy cold beer to the contest and a good time is inevitable. Entrants stand in front of an ice luge and swallow an icy shot of Mt. Gay that is poured from the top. They then have to tie a bowline and use it to lasso a piling that is on wheels, several feet away. The sailor then pulls the piling to him or her and picks up a cold beer, that is sitting on the base of the piling. They then drink the beer and turn the supposedly empty bottle upside down on their head. Our Knot & Shot Competition is a fun and good natured race against the clock and other sailors. Prizes will be given for the best times, and winners can receive great prizes from Harken yacht equipment, Sailing Services, Schooner Wharf Bar gift certificates and plenty of Mt. Gay Rum and Mount Gay XO. Spectators can enjoy the laughs and drinks while they share sailing stories with local sailors https://www.schoonerwharf.com/24knot.htm

In this workshop, we will break down the process so that it is easily repeatable for the student to implement at home. The crew’s story, trials and courage evokes awe, compassion and respect for peacemaking under sail as well as a deeper understanding of nuclear proliferation and warfare. This coming Summer and Fall, the Golden Rule, still plying the waters for peace, will be sailing the Salish Sea again. 15. Who needs shoes for this event and what size? We're thinking that if you sound off with the need and your size, others may chime in with shoes they have for sale. We can also pass on specific links if something comes up on eBay, Etsy, or ?
  16. I've really not worried much about stockings in the past. I've focused on the major clothing items for the most part. But I think I may have bought some of the above cause I have a couple pair that are heavier and tend to bunch up at the ankles without garters (otherwise known as "cankles", just ask Wendy LOL) if someone comes up with a good source, I'll be there.

  18. Reviving this thread. Looking for a bit of help on Period (1680-1720) cooking utensils. Not personal utensils, but actual cooking tools. Can anyone recommend books on the subject? The plan is to build a traveling cooking utensil set that can fly in checked baggage (a duffel). Also realizing there may need to be compromises with this approach. Attached is a photo of the Ships oven from the Mary Rose (1511), and a typical 18th century kitchen.
  19. Check the Event Calendar, it's late June this year. Manhattan Beach is like 20 minutes north of Long Beach, so you could day trip if desired. William and I camped with the Dana Point NHEF crew which was 1 of only 2? overnite crews. Although there were other camps, nearly all were day tripping. I'm sure I can get you and Marty in the camping group, but the event plans are typically announced fairly late.
  20. So... ye got a full pint, not a half-pint!
  21. Welcome back just doesn't seem enough. From the looks of it you would make a great Viking too. You are a bit of a legend in Pyrate circles (I don't mean the noose, or empty bottle kind of circles tho... LOL). Yes, look into the event Stynky mentioned, its late April in Georgia. Good historic events have been hard to come by, this one has promise.
  22. We need a Goonies ball with outrageous pirates
  23. Hic... I received the Apple Pie from DB Couper, bought at Ft Gaines Dead Man's Chest Auction. I still have a bottle left.
