Pennsic is an annual event, in the guise of a “War”, between the Kingdoms of the East and the Middle of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Pennsic is also the largest Society event, with attendance in recent years exceeding 10,000. The scheduled activities include large melee battles, tournaments, archery, stage performances, dancing, and hundreds of classes on medieval topics. The marketplace has over 200 merchants selling a variety of wares. Welcome to Pennsic - let us all celebrate the diversity within our society, the gathering of people at Pennsic is a pinnacle of diversity and unity as we all come together to celebrate the many facets of the dream that is the SCA. Once a year visitors from all over the country enjoy the sights and sounds of 18th century Hampton overrun by pirates. Hampton’s waterfront comes alive with dozens of pirate re-enactors, costumed in historically accurate garb, who transform today’s Hampton into the busy seaport of yesterday. Led by Blackbeard the Pirate himself, re-enactors help visitors step back in time and re-live the history and legends of 1718 Hampton. This year the festival has been honored by being named the 3rd best pirate festival in North America by USA Today. The Festival offers a variety of children’s activities, live musical entertainment, fireworks, period vendors, arts and crafts, and much more! This year’s activities include a number of reenactments from impromptu street skirmishes between pirates and the militia, to full-scale sea battles in the Hampton Harbor, featuring the popular re-enactment of Blackbeard’s final battle. Onlookers can also enjoy the waterfront view where tall ships tower over more than 50 private sail and powerboats all decked out in their own pirate gear. A presentation ceremony follows the sea battle, where Lt. Maynard presents Blackbeard's head and defeated crew to Virginia's Governor Spotswood. Visitors can participate in the festivities when they join Blackbeard’s funeral parade, Hampton’s version of Mardi Gras, and share in the booty from his treasure chest. The Friends of Fort Frederick State Park and the staff of Fort Frederick State Park are pleased to host the 29th annual 18th Century Market Fair. The public are welcome Thursday, April 24 through Sunday, April 27. Public hours are: Thursday through Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Sunday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. VOLUNTEERS: Market Fair volunteers please read the 2024 notice to Volunteers AUCTION to be held on Saturday! Come to historic Fort Frederick, an original stone fort built in 1756 during the French and Indian War and travel back in time to an authentic 18th century market fair. A whiff of campfires fills the air. Colorful entertainers are found strolling about the fair. There are over 100 sutlers (period vendors) selling 18th century wares: pottery, tin and copper ware, clothing, material and patterns, books, fireplace and cooking hardware, flintlock muskets and accoutrements, horn wares, paintings and prints, lanterns and other camp gear, etc. Blanket trading is conducted in the camper area. See hundreds of fair-goers of all ages dressed in colonial clothing: artisans, soldiers, ladies & gentlemen, Native Americans, longhunters, traders, servants, etc. Free entertainment for all. The Fair is open to sutlers, traders, street vendors and entertainers as well as individuals, groups, military units and American Indians portraying the appropriate time period and geographic area, representing eastern North America from 1730 through 1790. The Fair is a Juried Event for camper and sutlers, but open daily to all visitors. It’s the 36th Annual Georgetown Wooden Boat Show! Please join us on October 18 and 19, 2025. The Goat Island Regatta Auction will be held on Friday, October 17 The Georgetown Wooden Boat Show – always held on the third weekend in October – features one of the Southeast’s best wooden boat exhibits with more than 100 classic wooden boats displayed on land and water, boatbuilding, a corrugated boat race, children’s model boatbuilding, a youth sailing regatta, knot tying, maritime arts and crafts, and food. The Wooden Boat Show takes place on the waterfront and along Front Street in Historic Downtown Georgetown.
