Hello! Welcome fellow Floridian!
-
It looks like this will be Ivan Henry Trading Company's FIRST vendor adventure / soiree. Look for us there!

First thing that came to mind for shoe buckles:

Second that came to mind:

A guy in Florida, Richard Lanni casts buttons and buckles from originals. You can reach him on Facebook.

Thanks for that! I've contacted the folks at Ross Farms.
-
Michael and Sterling - that paintings details I believe are:
Nazari, Bartolomeo (1693 – 1758) Gustavus Hamilton, 1639-1723, 2nd Viscount Boyne, in the Cabin of His Yacht, 1731-1732
-
In my ramblings through period paintings and drawings, I have seen a lot of pictorial evidence for pipes and tobacco but zero for cigars. If anyone has any, I would love to see it.
-
We have 1 early Doglock Musket in stock and several late 1600s Model Doglock Muskets (not on site) and Blunderbusses coming into stock within this month.
-
FUnny I just saw this thread, as I have been working on having some made for sale in the store.

I don't want to think about the cost of shipping barrels from Poland to the US, but Matuls can provide wood hooped casks and other coopered goods:
Holy Crap! Those are nice! I guess I will need to explore the shipping aspect..... :-)
MB - You just knew that after our conversation I was going to bring this topic up again!
-
No idea why there are rectangular cuts in the barrel, but the object to the right, that looks like a step-stool with a hole in it, is very interesting. It looks like a primitive close-stool, but also appears to be missing it's lid (if it was supposed to have one). If that's what it is, instead of an odd brazier. Either way, it's kind of odd and interesting.
Might be a urinal ....

Anyone know of a manufacturer of period correct (17th century) barrels?
Obviously barrels were put to a lot more uses than just storage and transportation of goods during the 17th century. For bonus points - does anyone know what for or why those rectangular holes are cut into the barrels? I have no idea.

IF I'm alive I'll be there for my third in a row. Even though Michael Bagley actually didn't attend last year, I had fun. As far as i recall.
-
THanks! Looks like a leather bag it is... No for the grenadoes... (maniacal laugh)
-
I have had a good deal of 16th - 18th Century drinking vessel research. THis topic motivated me to do something with it. Here you go! Have fun!
-
I am researching a late 17th Century British Grenadier kit and I am getting down to the details and need some help. Has anyone seen any pertinent documentation on their equipment during this time. I am PARTICULARLY interested in what materials their grenade bags were made of. I am guessing either a tarred canvas or a leather bag - to keep the fuses dry. Anyone still on here who would like to share information / insight? Anything helps.

That is an India piece - I know, I sell them. I jhave yet to bring in wheel locks because of their cost and reliability. They also need pyrite to work properly, which can also be difficult to find. That said, I really like them. For inspiration, check out these pics of antique wheel lock beauties I've found!

I would really like to return some time, but.... This year it is on the same weekend as Drake's Raid in St. Augustine. I do like gettin my 1586 privateer on!

Good stuff as usual Foxe. In my "Pirate Myth Busters" presentation, i have a good time talking about boots.
<div><br></div><div>Speaking of boots, does anyone have a good link to large and complete images of the drawings of a Spanish Sailor 1717-1756 or a place to get it?

rubbing alcohol works as well.

I love that they are using video of re enactors to make their point. SOmewhere along the line, they paid for that footage. Hypocrisy at it's finest.
