1. I'm seeing yet another reason Pirates were drunk a great deal of the time.
2. I've been thinking about this as well. I think there is a notion for us to make vintage things look as they would now. that makes little to no sense.
3. hey Reg, i found these articles, not sure if it helps. Pirates Wiki REAL period grenadoes and a glass bottle fer sale if ya have da coin
4. Hey there, here are a few of my favorites - I hope this helps. Jan and Casper Luyken Illustrators - Good references for some clothes at the beginning of the GAOP A great clothing reference site Lots of good stuff here as well - not neccessarily sailor/privateer, but good One of my favorite reference sites. Once you mater the searches, you can find a lot. This search was for "Boots 1600-1699 Hope these helped
5. From the past weekend at John Levique Days. New shirt from Blackbeard Festival....
6. Thanks all! I'm impressed with how cool everyone is and eager to help! My first choice would be a used one, so if anyone spots one out there, please PM me. Thanks again!
7. Reggie! I am impressed you made most of this yourself. I thought you looked very good. Like you said, period glasses would be a nice touch - or as my wife Kelli did, get contacts for these events. Oh and your sash made from curtains. Callenish is right, your shoes made a big difference. YOu'll soon be 21 and can legally add that one last pirate accessory to your internal kit. That will help with developing a surly attitude as well.
8. Hello again Mr. Crispy. Here's a few of my pics. :-)
Trying out parts of me wife's kit
Uh.... yeah.

Unfortunate fashion mistake
9. PIP will be the wife and I first encampment (can't wait) We are amassing a good amount of household items, just looking for the most important part - a tent. I would really like a wall tent, but would consider a good deal on a wedge if it's big (I'm 6'3"). Help is appreciated.
10. I have to agree as well. After making one, I have to say it seems to be very restricting and at least in my case, the cartridge box had a slouch to it when fastened under the belt. It didn't face forward like in the illustrations. Now, that's assuming I made mine correct, which is a big assumption. Also, it does kill my neck. If it's tight, it feels like it's literally pulling you over. I would like to see some research or at least an existing piece to understand how this thing worked. Seems like it's going the way of the silk X from the Wydah in terms of trying to figure out it's function.
11. LOL - You Rock Michael! You even sketched out and scanned in a pattern for me all while, I'm assuming you are at work. Thanks friend!
12. That's a great idea Michael! Any idea what style of strap would be PC? I have a Tandy right by the house - I could run down there and gett he supplies. Just wondering what sort of pattern to use. BTW - Nice chatting with your wife in the airport! Your going to need at least 8 ounce weight leather (although I tend to prefer 10 ounce for straps)... They will likely even have some belt straps precut in good length that you could buy to save money. Bring the box with you so you can try feeding the strap through at an angle to make sure you get a good width. If you want to match the same colour as what you currently have on it, buy the "Antique Brown" cream dye. They will be able to help you with how to apply that.. I also recomend adding a buckle so you can take the box on and off the should harness. Test to ensure the buckle you choose will fit through the belt loops as well. Most Tandy leather factory locations are great at talking you through small projects like this... Heck a better location may even offer to help. I learned most of what I know about leather from Shannon (who you may or may not have met), but I have learned a great deal from Tandy leather employees as well. Good tips! So would the straps be three pieces? Two straps that go around the neck and buckle, both attached to one horizontal strap that the box would be? Know what I mean?

14. I'm looking for a belly box that goes around one's neck, hangs in the front and is held in place by a belt. Like the ones that appear in so many illustrations. Bart Roberts (lower image) has one on.
15. Any help is appreciated - I'm looking for a nice PC baldric. I would like to have it for this weekend, but any references for future purchases would be appreciated. Thanks!
16. YES! It was nice meeting you (briefly) I was a bit impaled by the pale ale. Hope to have more time in the future to get to know all of you. Everyone seemed very nice!
17. Just went out to the mail box. Guess what was waiting ofr me? Caspar Luyken's Gallery of Late-Seventeenth-Century Costume. Gonna be busy for a while now. Good stuff, and EXCELLENT reference. http://textbookx.com/book/9780486429861/
18. It was a great time. Certainly set the bar high for my first event. I didn't want to leave either. Be seeing you this weekend for more Piratical fun! Thanks Sir Crispy!
