  1. I've asked about this myself. As I recollect from those previous discussions:

It depends upon whom you are portraying. Prior to the 1800's, they would be most common with Germanic people.

Outside of those cultures though, they were not popular, and were mostly a badge of ill-fitting clothes.

When they appear in illustrations, it is often on the very poor, and they appear as a rope or strap over one shoulder.

Certainly not the braces associated with finer clothing in later years!

That said, modern waistlines being what they are, many reenactors wear them: you can't see them under a waistcoat!

If, however, your stomach is not bigger than your waist, proper tailoring will keep your breeches up!

Again, the above are recollections from discussion; I do not have primary sources at hand to cite.

I never did think of rope. I think I might try that thank you.

  2. What I have always been told is the one to be punished had to cut the rope himself, unthread it into the nine strands and tie knots in the end. It would then be given to the quartermaster and the remaining thick part of the rope was wrapped in cloth or leather. I have made them this way and I've always been pleased with the look

I'ld like to see pictures if possible

  3. Generally speaking, my business hours are 9am to 5pm EST monday through thursday. I will also usually answer the phone on the weekends unless I am at a living history event. If I don't answer it means I'm busy with another customer. (One-man show here) Just leave a name and number and I will certainly call you back. Thanks!

Received the ring today, very nice product thank You

  4. Did I mention I intend to hunt with this? I than ye all for you advice and think I have and answer to to my question. Feel free to continue commenting.

I can only speak on MTV myself, I like their products however as you have heard the finish on the furniture has something to be desired, aside from that I like their weapons. Also they do stand by their products. we recently sent a lock to be worked on and they got it back to us asap. as far as the finish goes, you built the Queen Anne you have so finding your way around dismantling it should be a snap.

  5. Easiest way is to call me at (812) 606-1264 if you want to use a credit card, etc. Alternatively, you can e-mail me for size availability and I'll send you a PayPal invoice or my address. (nlogsdon AT att.net)

  7. I've been trying to find out what GAOP sea charts were printed on for ages. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm betting anything they had ready on hand - obviously some were printed on paper but I'll bet a lot was done on canvas and such - i did one on canvas no to long ago, i would post pictures but they were greeted by me mate with a lot of laughter followed by, "Oh wait your serious..." I would wait to see what Capt. Jack Black comes up with.
