I got me a parade coming up in May...I'd be quite interested in the vending of some cheesy comestables...oops, wrong thread. I mean, I wanna buy one.

OK they're not cheesy, way too much cellulose fiber, I wouldn't recommend eatin' one, might chip a tooth. I'd feel kinda squeamish tellin ya wot they're doin' on the girls' thread with 'em.

But.. if you'll tell me what size rope you'd have on yer ship I can make ya one or more that would be correct for your application. I say that because I think these might be a little small (diameter wise) based on some good info I came into possesion of this weekend.

I'll be runnin' the lathe next week after we get back from Ft Desoto this comin' weekend and I'll make what ya want and send it out to ya.

PM me with the particulars and we'll go from there.

I'm CW infantry centric in my leather and all the pics in Echoes of Glory, and stuff you see in photos, is all the copper rivets. As I've gotten deeper into the intricacies I've discovered that things were mostly sewn before 1860 ish. by the end of the war rivets were far more common and in some apps they were no longer sewn but were riveted exclusively. The rivets make the joint about 3X stronger, or so I've been told.

This is 1860 Naval Cutlass Scabbard that I did that's all rivets

I think I'm gonna stick to hand sewing for now, until as Mike says, we get more definitive info. What's right or wrong, I doubt if we can be terribly wrong either way.

I'm 'bout ready to start sewing my belt up after dinner.

Thanks, I picked up a couple of the 1 3/4" buckles from the other authentic sutler at PiP, I'm sad to say I don't remember his name.

It must be a trick of the angle on the page because I come with about a 1/4" difference in strap widths. It's OK, I'm almost ready to assemble. Just have to make the frog now.

I'm almost out of rivets, so I'll probably have to sew it, hate when that happens!

It's a prototype we'll see how it comes out and then I'll decide if it's going into production.

Funny you should be running this right now, I'm in the middle of copying yours... (sincerest form of flattery) and I'm extrapolating dimensions based on the photo you posted of your belt, and referring to the photo I took at PiP. What a pain in the backside!!

I got some good dimension for ropes from one of the Key West sailing ships this weekend, so I'll be able to make something that will actually be right!!

I just finished this "snapsack" I may have gone too far back in time as it seems to be documented to the early 1600's, the photos didn't seem to indicate any buttonholes for a "drawstring" and seems to be twisted like a tootsie roll wrapper and tied off and then tied to Tumpline. I looked at a fair number of ECW pics and found several variations on the theme, but they seem to a bit more "modern" with drawstrings and integral straps.

It'll hold a ton of stuff and the 3" wide strap seem very comfortable, probably appropriate for the time of Searles' Raid.

I just mixed up some o' that to finish a set o' apostles an' it's workin' out fine. Looks great, I put the 1st coat on bout 30 mins. ago an' it's durn near dry a'ready. Gonna give it 'bout a hour an do it agin'.

After further reading, I would like to recommend a Hoppes product, it's a solvent soaked cleaning cloth and it makes very short work of polishin' brass!

I can't wait for mine. I had Sutlerjon make them with a shorter drill depth for 80 grains so I don't have to measure separately. Enough to prime and powder the gun.

Just took these off the lathe. They'll do double duty as a shipboard tool or another weapon in a pinch.

The longer one is 13" long and goes from 7/8" tapering down to 3/4"

The shorter one is about 12" long and tapers form 3/4" to about 5/8"

These can be made to your specs, would need to know the largest diameter rope on your ship.

Some new buttons for the shot bag are on the way.

I'll be keepin my eye out for some other patterns in the near future
