Arrgg mates, Found these two life takers and widow makers around. Any inklings if authentic repops of these were to be made if they would be period or right for the period? Check out the links and look forward to all the grumbling to come. http://www.antiqueswords.com/scs4.htm http://www.butterfields.com/areas/arms/735.../7350a-1078.htm

Found this on another list I'm on Greetings! Although this is a sales solicitation, I felt it would be acceptable since it's not every day that a Longship goes up for sale! (Even one that isn't currently seaworthy.) The Longship Company is selling our 32 foot viking ship, the FYRDRACA. We have had 25 years of sailing pleasure with this ship and are now purchasing another one. Please forward this on to anyone who might be interested, including Kingdom e-mail lists, Scandinavian/Celtic Fraternal organizations, and Scandinavian/Celtic Festival sites. (After all, Vikings belong at Scottish Festivals, too!) The Longship Company has pasted the latest and best information…

Saber and I both chose battle-worthy cutlasses for our birthdays. He chose the Cold Steel 1917 model, I chose the Windlass Steelcraft cutlass. The Cold Steel edge is extremely sharp steel. My Windlass is ground down blunt. Although both are rated battle-worthy, looking at the two, I think his Cold Steel blade is going to make mincemeat of my Windlass! I'm wondering if before we engage in any fight choreography if we should have the edge taken down on the Cold Steel blade so that it won't inflict excessive damage on the opposing blade. Any thoughts or opinions on this?

Today I bought a felt hat blank. Thought I'd make it into a tricorn. Now I realize I don't know how. I've heard of 'steaming' and 'ironing' but I'm not sure how that applies to forming the brim into a tricorn shape. Can anyone tell me the basic process? TIA!

This dress is a gift, a thank-you present from Becky Cristler. Becky made my black dress with the red chemise that you've seen me wearing in most of my photos. She said that she wanted to make me something really special- a fancy dress for the pirate's ball and other events where a more elaborate dress could be worn. It was a thank-you for the referrals that have come her way as a result of Tales of the Seven Seas. This dress is red brocade- pretty awesome eh?!!! I haven't got it yet, but I just got the photos and had to show it off a bit!

I noticed that many Seafarers wear a bandana beneath their hats. It surves 3 purposes. To keep sweat fron running into the eyes, to control an unruly thatch, and also make the hat fit more snugly. During high winds, many hats were probably blown overboard, and lost to Davey Jones' locker. I think it may be a good idea to invest in a safety clip. One end is clipped to the hat, and the other would clip to a collar in the back. Remember those mens Shirts in high school ? People delighted in pulling the loop off the back ? Well..I think that would be a good idea for adding to sailor shirts, or frocks. Call it a Hat Tab...or safety tab. "Never lose another hat to a the sea i…

I've been hunting on the net for two things that I'm wanting to get for my pirate attire, and have been unsucessful in finding these. First, I had a nice looking cap-fire blunderbuss that I carried when I was at faire. Alas, it got lost and never recovered at Texas Renaissance Faire last year. I've been as of yet unable to find one that I could buy ahead of time to have for Texas Rennaissance Faire this year. So, I'm posting here to ask for any advice on if anyone knows of any online vendors that may sell decent looking cap-fire pistols or inexpensive non-functional replicas. The second thing I've been looking for deals with a post I tacked onto in the Rabble Rousing ar…

aye I finally got a pig sticker of my very own. I wanted a cutlass that looked more realistic than most of those gold and silver ones that depict a pirate ship or a skull because HOW OFTEN DID A PIRATE GET HIS SWORD MADE? almost never! it was stolen of a merchant or miltary vessel and therefore would be very plain. any ways enough gab heres the store i got it from http://www.iloveswords.com/PIR_cutlass.html Now if only my flintlock wasn't on backorder

So here's a costuming noodle twister. I've decide to make a saque-back gown (Robe a la Francaise) for Halloween. I've chosen approximately 1755 as my target date for style, but I'm having a problem choosing appropriately-shaped gown supports. None of the books I've been looking through are consistent on what was really used mid-century. Some folks say wide panniers. Some folks say those were passé, and were on to pocket hoops. I'm still woefully confused as to what the best choice is, and would love to hear people's opinions. My choices so far are: -Full panniers. This sort of scares me because they're always too wide, and hard to maneuver around. I really don't like t…

Today My First Mate bought me this wonderful little ship. - she rocks back n forth to the sound of crashing waves and howling winds(the ship not the First Mate) - Cannon barrels flash light to sounds of cannon fire. - Sounds of Pirates singing and the Captain's commands to his swarthy crew. First Mate told me I can have it now but to not whine at Christmas when I don't have anything big to unwrap....I told her we will cross that deck when we get to it....lol

Hey all! I finally got a shirt done and I'd figured I'd give the women here a chance at it prior to listing up on e-bay. It's a shirt almost exactly like mine. I really hope this works....if not there is a picture in the gallery under Stacy at Ojai. https://pyracy.com/gallery/details.php?image_id=427 The only difference is that it is made out of muslin. It has regular cuffs with buttons and it also has 1" wide venetian lace aournd the cuffs in a grape apttern. The lace on the collar is about 4". Size medium. I wear a size 8-10 and it fits me. I can make them larger if anyone is interested. I'm asking $50.00 for it. E-mail me at Tabbykte@hotmail.com with any q…
